after a lot debate through spring summer and autumn its nearly upon us ,one of the most, if the most anticipated clash of the season so far between sprinter sacre and sanctuaire and what a race it promises to be sprinter rated 169 and sanct 166 no disrespect to other competitors but it looks between these 2 with sizing euro and fininans not turning up . sprinter sacre is sure to start fav on the back of some great performances last season notably when easilly winning the arkle and will take some beating ,but sanctuaire is not to be underestimated and paul nicholls seems bullish and is not running scared .
the race seems staightforward in how it will be run ..........sanctuaire blasts off in front and its a case of catch me if you can ? but how much rope can sprinter sacre afford to give him it leaves an interesting dilema for barry gerhagty and nicky henderson who must have  disscused this ! sanctuare is a good fast jumper who  blitzed his opponents in his 3 chases last season by setting off in front and his slick fast jumping meant that he never saw an opponent from start to finish at sandown last time ,sprinter sacre is also a very good traveller and  jumper but how much of a lead will he allow sanct to take ,it is likely that sprinter sacre will have to jump at a speed he has never expierenced before especially at the railway fences all in all a race to watch for me not a betting medium unless sanctuaire  is an attractive price .
anyone have any thoughts how to price these 2 up .
by the way i would not be at all suprised if sprinter sacre takes sanctuaire on early and trys to get him at it as sanctuaire has history of spitting the dummy out ,problem is nicholls looks to have found the key to him and a great race is expected with these 2 flying over the fences ...............bring it on !

It's going to be an absolute classic! I do have a soft spot for Sanctuaire and he does owe me an absolute fortune since his Fred Winter win! However, If he repeats his performance from back in April against Somersby and Wishful Thinking I don't think a not 100% fit Sprinter Sacre he will have enough to reel him in.

Barry Gerraghty needs to know how much rope to give Sanctuaire. If he gets behind by over 5lengths at any stage of the race then I believe he's playing a very risky game. Sanctuaire has not come back to his rivals at all in his 2 chase starts. I'd love for Sanctuaire to win tomday, however giving Sprinter Sacre the fright of his life will be enough for me. Any sport needs challenges and as good as Big Bucks is, I'd hate for us to have a dead 2mile chase and 3mile hurdle division this year.

What amazes me is how many of you think that Sprinter is going to turn up not tuned to the minute, its a £70,000 to the winner race and 3 months to Cheltenham. It was also the intention of Henderson to have a prep race before this so he will be fresh as paint and pulling for his head. If Ruby gets the fractions right and Sanctuaire jumps the way he has, I can see him coming out of the Railway fences four lengths to the good, he then fills up Sanctuaires lungs as he by-passes the the pond fence omitted because of the low sun, Barry gets to work to close the gap and its now down to the jumping and Sanctuaire gaining a length over each of the remaining fences as they both stagger side to side up the hill with Ruby standing in the saddle Barzelona like over the line.

Not only will Sprinter win. But I can't see he coming off the bridle. Geraghty will do his usual look around as Sprinter jumps the last.

He will stop to write an update to his blog, also send a few tweets. Then they'll come home at a common canter backwards across the line.

well if he wins the QMCC on the bridle and has barely had a race all season, why would you put him away when he is at his peak? He will be 7yo in 2013 and who knows if he will regress in 2014? That is entirely feasible. Otherwise what's he going to have, 3 runs a season? What a waste that would be! If he won the Melling doing handsprings that would also open up the option of the king George
Report JOCI Club December 8, 2012 6:34 PM GMT
He wasn't stopping by any means, after a fast pace set by Sanctuaire (which eventually killed him) and in soft ground. I'd have thought that next term, a crack at the King George would be eminently possible, given he'd be travelling at a notch slower than he's used to in the 2m chases.

Personally, I think Sprinter isn't a 2 miler. Crazy as that sounds, he is just getting going after 2 miles. He need a break neck pace over 3m round Kempton.

I've never seen anything as brilliant as Sprinter Sacre. Never in my life. I now now what my father meant when he talked about Arkle.

Don't we all do that to a certain extent?

I asked a question on the Durkan thread about Rubi Light's prospects tomorrow, pointing out just what he's got going for him.
I won't be backing him though (maybe I/R at a bigger price) and I wouldn't claim to have tipped it - I haven't, but the conversation at that stage was JUST about the two big guns!

I'd NEVER crow about that sort of situation (if it comes off) as I was just trying to get others' views about what I see as something relatively unconsidered having a valid chance.

Flemenstar's jumping seems to be spot-on so I don't see Ruby Light as a tasty ENOUGH price - the experienced fencer is often a worthwhile angle to take when second season novices start meeting more fluent opposition...alas (for betting purposes) I don't see too many flaws in Flemenstar's jumping.

Besides...I couldn't see Quito De La Roque losing today and he was beaten fair & square Sad

Its only a bit of banter CV Budd knows I am only messing. Had long debates with him about the Arkle all last season. Achievements wise & longevity etc of course Kauto is miles ahead of anything in recent years. On pure natural ability and raw talent I honestly don't think you will see a better 2 mile chaser than Sprinter Sacre though. Obviously I'm a huge fan of Master Minded & Moscow before him but SS is on a whole different level. He'd beat anything over 2. what can i say?

i had no winners at the course, and only a 14yr old at Aintree(well i have to back him)stopped a disastrous punting day.
but i came home with a big smile on my face having witnessed something i will never forget.
the race was as i expected in the way it went off,no excuses for any horse which we wanted, and i even managed a "come on ruby" as they jumped the first of the 7 in the back straight. After the railway fences,it was "oh well i got that wrong",this is now what i did not expect, but i was not surprised at the same time,if you see what i mean.
i simply thought Sanctuaire could give SS a real race round Sandown and maybe beat him.......,blimey, i was way out in my estimation of him,and i should apologise to Sprinter Sacre for thinking it!!
i was there when Sizing Europe won last year, and i felt mighty priveleged to have seen him,i felt the same yesterday.

I got some nice photos in the parade ring, the paddock, and a good one of Sanct jumping the ditch in front of the stands first time.i missed SS jumping the last which p!ssed me off, but, thanks to BG,i got a real good photo when he bought SS in front of us after the race.

i dont know how good Sprinter will be in relation to the past greats, but i do know hes special, and we should enjoy him for as long as it lasts-hopefully a good few years!!!

Being right, then having the grace to sit back, is a sure sign of the measure of a man. There is no need to keep saying "I told you so!" My earlier comments re SS were thankfully proved right. Alternatives to me did not seem to be possible, but nevertheless viable arguments all the same. In the end we were treated to an incredible display from probably the most exciting chaser we have seen in years. I am not in a minority however when putting forward my earlier comments regarding the outcome. I am however, as stated, looking forward to hearing the thoughts of Budd, irrespective of what others may think. He put up a reasoned argument, and because he was there when it happened I would like to hear what his thought are. He expected it to be a clash. I doubt any of us really thought it would be SUCH a demolition irrespective of our earlier responses.

It's very much a similar scenario to frankel isn't it with the prospect facing us all of him beating up ever diminishing fields, year on year and in that respect there will be a big risk that he might not reach his true position in racing folklore.

He is such a very special horse that he surely deserves long term to be given the chance to stretch out over 3 miles in order to really stamp his true greatness, I think that if he stayed over 2 forever, some time down the line there will the odd huff and puff of what's he beating, nothing is turning up blah, blah, blah (as strange as it may seem). He is just too good to noteven explore the possibility.

I cannot see how he won't get 3 miles easily. He's cantered home yesterday on soft ground after a suicide pace was set. He was 6 seconds faster than Captain Conan.

It reminded me of Kautos 2009 King George where Nacarat went a suicide pace which only Kauto could live with and it let Kauto show the true depth of his quality when cantering home.

I hope they do step him up in trip next season. He could be anything if he gets 3 miles. Maybe bag a couple of Champion Chases at 7/8 and then go for a couple of Gold Cups when he's 9/10. With a hat trick of King Georges inbetween and another Tingle Creek.

horses with enormous levels of ability and superiority are often capable of much more than people give them credit for. There regular posts on the main forum saying Frankel was a 'pure miler' and that he should be campaigned only at that distance for fear of not staying. Well few would doubt his staying ability and I personally think he could win any race up to a mile and a half and that's because of his enormous natural ability. It make some time but I would imagine Sprinter Sacre will prove top class at any distance for exactly the same reason yet already there are the usual 'he's a two miler, don't try anything else' posts on the various SS threads. Sheesh, he is only 6yo and just had his first start out of novice company, no need to pigeon hole him now - he literally could be anything

Fair play Budd, nice to see such humility and a long-time good egg of the forum imo. Would also love to see your photos, if you sign up to photobucket or imageshack you can upload them and then put the link on here. Obviously though it's a bit of a faff so if you can't be arsed it's all good!

That was stunning stuff yesterday and having gone to the Tingle Creek meeting for the last 5-6 years it was gutting to miss yesterday. People can crab him with "well what does he find off the bridle?" all they like but I'm not sure he'll ever face a horse who makes that question become a reality.

cheers Joist,i shall see what i can do.

maybe Sizing Europe could? if he ever races against him, which dont look likely at the moment, with what his trainers saying.
otherwise we may have to wait and see what the novices do over the next year or so.
gut feeling is we may never find out!!

Yeah Sizing might but like you say, I was thinking of opposition that are likely to race over 2 miles whereas Sizing seems to be avoiding that now. Next years novices could make for a cracking 2014 QMCC! Talking about Cheltenham 2014 already Laugh

The showdown next year will be Oscar's Well and the defending Champ. 2014 champion chase will be bit more entertaining.
