It does look rather obvious. Much of the opposition to him seems to be based on an assumption that he had a hard race last time. He looks to have much the best form - only one horse not called Frankel has finished in front of him since his 2yo debut.

He's a group one horse but he's not a top-rank performer in my view - I think all this talk about being a 'champion miler' without Frankel around is balls!
His (regular 4 length) proximity to Frankel hugely flatters him, and I believe he has to be at a peak (which is in question) to be in contention in this, never mind win it!

I never believed he was quite the class of Canford Cliffs or Goldikova, and this is his big chance to prove me wrong - he's an admirable colt, and has been banging his head against a brick wall for so long - he deserves a change of fortune but I believe he's very poor value and is even a frame lay, at something really short!

HRE - I'm not even winding you up at all...it's a very tough race, he has it all to prove, and as I said on another thread...I'll be happy to be wrong Wink

An assumption AT ? Everytime he had raced Frankel before he was never ridden to take him on up front. He was always held up behind the great horse. At Ascot they tried going with him and the usual 4 lengths beating turned into 11.

I personally think he is a top class miler. But his last run would put me off backing him at anything less than 3/1 in the face of such strong opposition.

sintonian I think the jockey gave him an easy time once Frankel had flown

Excelebration is a top class horse IMO - won the Moulin comfortably last year

I would worry though if it's a crawl which would play into the hands of Moonlight. I'm very surprised there is no pacemaker.

Beware of MOORE falling off.

Well done HRE & AT.  His ability was not in question, just the hard race, perhaps percevied, he had last time out.

MI ran abysmally.

I couldn't have got Excelebration more wrong Sad

W/D to the Excelebration fans...I have to admit my reservations about his well-being were way off.

It was quite a disappointing race really, as so many failed to show up.
Even though he wins from a top-class field, I still get the impression he's a shade below champions like Canford Cliffs & Goldikova - maybe I'm being unfair to him, but he's sure to have his chances again to shine in Frankel's absence, and shut me up!

Excelebration is as good a horse if not bettar than Canford Cliffs or Goldikova but will never get the due credit.
Report Mr Eboue August 12, 2012 6:41 PM BST
How on earth is he better than Goldikova please?
Report Mr Eboue August 12, 2012 6:41 PM BST
or Canford cliffs?
Report geoff m August 13, 2012 12:26 AM BST
4 times hes finished within 5 lengths of Frankel which is the same distance Frankel put between him & Canford.
Within those 4 occassions he beat the likes of Dream Ahead & Immortal Verse both conquerors of Goldikova.
Report A_T August 13, 2012 8:38 AM BST
I would have Excelebration as a similar level of ability to Canford and Goldikova.
Report cryoftruth August 13, 2012 8:46 AM BST
Well if anyone doubted the form with Frankel before...

Seems that Frankel really is 11 lengths better than the Champion miler (without Frankel).

That is over a stone and a half better. Quite extraordinary.

It's an unfair comparison with Goldikova as people are using her form as a 6 year old, but of course with the others it's as a 3 or 4 in the prime of their lives.  Try using Goldikova's 3 year old BC win or 4 year old Jacques Le Marois demolition and then make the comparisons.
