Best Mate was already a 169 rated horse before being touched off by Florida Pearl.

Regarding See More Business, Kicking King, Best Mate. None of them had to beat a 178 Kempton 3 mile specialist such as Long Run. On last years performance Long Run has the edge by nearly a stone on every horse in the race.

If anyone goes to these horses in the RP to check their form the OR is there updated.

RR - it's all about opinions squire but I really have to disagree!
Though saying that, I really don't have a clue what his optimal trip will turn out to be - there aren't that many high-class horses I see that have me as foxed as that!

Cue Card has shown all the hall marks of becoming a really high class chaser. Everything he has done up to this season has been to prepare him for the main part of his career as a chaser. He won a champion bumper, managed to win graded company over hurdles and placed in the Arkle as a novice chaser. Only 6 years old he started his second season winning the Grade 2 Haldon Cup off a mark of 157 by a distance of 27 lengths earning the in running comments:

"Jumped slickly, led 2nd, made rest, quickened well clear after 4 out, impressive"

Now he still has a long way to go to reach the heights but for someone to say ' I don't think Cue Card is a top class horse' is just guessing, especially given the collateral form which has been franked over and over (Al ferof, For Non Stop, Bobs Worth, Silviniaco Conti). You could have said the same thing about many a promising young horse at this stage of their careers and sometimes you would have been right. But on other occasions you would have been wildly wrong as in the case of Best Mate who won the same race, off the same mark and at the same age as Cue Card on his first start as a second season chaser. The King George is going to reveal the answer to many questions this year as it often has. It really is an amazing proving ground for top class horses. Can't wait to see it!!

my lack of knowledge in this instance, I dont know the horse that well.
very intersting to learn from someone who knows what they are
talking about, many thanks.

Personally I think he'll be at his best over 2.5 miles. I'd side with Al Ferof on Boxing Day.

Initial analysis of the trends (subject to change due to horses running before the KG and fine tuning for last year's result) has the following ranking of the current list of entrants:

Long Run 92%
Bobs Worth 67%
Captain Chris 62%
Kauto Stone 61%
Sizing Europe 56%
Wishfull Thinking 54%
Riverside Theatre 53%
Al Ferof 52%
First Lieutenant 52%
Saint Are 51%
Grands Crus 50%
Hunt Ball 50%
Silviniaco Conti 49%
Finian´s Rainbow 48%
Diamond Harry 46%
The Giant Bolster 44%
Cue Card 43%
Calgary Bay 37%
Albertas Run 35%
Champion Court 35%
Menorah    35%
For Non Stop 34%
Nacarat    32%
Foildubh 29%
Gauvain 29%
Poquelin 29%
Imperial Commander 28%
Wayward Prince 28%
Bold Sir Brian 24%
Cristal Bonus 24%
Sir Des Champs 22%

With Bobs Worth being an unlikely runner, at this stage it appears a walk in the park for Long Run, trends-wise.

More to come as we get closer to the event.

JOCI may I be so bold as to ask for the stats used that make up your figures? I know unless already written out somewhere that'll be a real balls ache but appreciated.

Not surprised to see Long Run at the top but just cannot back him. OK unlikely to make the trip, but gobsmacked to see SDC at the bottom as I would have him as one of the most likely winners - would much change if he won the John Durkan from the stats perspective?

Really bullish about Sizing Europe for this.

Personally I think he's still exceptional and the best horse in the race

Ratings would have him down as third best but Long Run appears paceless these days and Finian's Rainbow took advantage of Sizing's misfortune at Cheltenham to get his superior rating. I firmly believe Sizing would have won that day (although it would have still been a close finish)

Sizing gallops and jumps really well, and I could see him taking up the running a fair bit from home and being very hard to peg back. He's got plenty of 20f form and although he hasn't won over 3m, his three tries at the distance (ok one was 23f) have been in conditions that have been against him:

Beaten by China Rock on his seasonal debut (when he always strips fitter for the run)
Beaten by Kauto Star (on soft ground - reversing form with China Rock)
Beaten by Quito De La Roque (travelling much the best for a long way and being caught close home - again down to the ground)

Kempton normally rides good(ish) on Boxing Day and the sharp 3m wont take too much getting for him as far as i'm concerned.

Only worry for me is that he might not show but connections have wanted to run in this before and with Sprinter Sacre in the Tingle Creek it's not the worst time to be trying the King George! If it doesn't work out they can always drop back at the festival.

think the race is the target fft and he should get the trip imo,am in big on cue card but could do with having another one in as no harm in having a couple running for ya ,also took some 24s on sir des champs but he looks as though he will not come over ,last seasons novices are carrying all before them but al ferof is too short for me  and for non stop looks a non runner also finians looks doubtfull now so may have a bit on sizing .good luck .

well if SE stays hes the one to beat.the way he jumps and racing prominent will get them all at it behind.
to be honest i cannot see any horse getting near him if hes on his best form, and he stays.
its a big if for me though,i dont think hes a 3 miler.

They would be mad not to take Sizing Europe to Kempton for the KG. He would have a great chance but i  have a feeling he won`t line up.

The weather is going to play a factor imo.

put it this way,if its good ground, anyone whose backed something else would certainly be hoping he dont stay!!

yes on good or g/soft i think he will get 3 miles at kempton ,only run out of it close home  by qdlr on heavy in ireland ,gotta be ridden prominently imo, problems ocour when they are" ridden to get the trip" i.e out the back and given too much to do .

Good to see some Sizing fans Cool

For me he's the best in the race and his style of running will suit perfectly to Kempton. Whether he truly gets the three remains to be seen but he's done ok over 3m on ground that didn't suit.

The difference between Cue Card and Sizing Europe is the ability to settle.

Cue Card struggles to settle at 2 miles, over 3 miles i can`t have him.

Sizing Europe is more laid back and does what he needs to. So over 3 miles on good ground around a flat track he has every chance staying it well.

Another Sizing fan signing in. Agree that this track should really suit and he could jump them all in to trouble. Hopefully will stay well enough that the other 2.5 milers wont trouble him but imo to beat Long Run he will need to either stay it very very well or Long Run will need to put in another cr@p show.

Fascinated by the Long Run tactical dilemma. They need to make this a test but if they send him out up front to turn the screw it would be bizarre watching a front runner taking the field along at a pace he cant jump at properly himself

just seen on sportilife website that sizing has 3 options over xmas ,the king george ,a 2m1f chase and another 3 mile chase in ireland ,broomhead said he has no probs getting 3 miles.............so i would say its the king george (and good money on here lining up on here !)or the 3mile chase in ireland .....hold ya bets tho !imo

Am all over Sizing for this but can't back him until we know he comes here, and that the ground is in his favour. I would only fancy him on good or g/s going, but I do think he's got the class and stamina on decent ground to win this.

Sizing Europe on a flat 3m round Kempton, he is as good as ever and is 100% being aimed for the race. 12/1 is proper value. He is the moral champion chaser don't forget. Long Run the only danger if he can rekindle his form of 2 years ago.

Another Sizing Europe fan hereGrin - very uncomplicated yet high class horse who should be ideally suited to the KG as long as it isn't really soft.

Al Ferof and Cue Card, while undoubtedly promising still have plenty to prove in terms of class and the trip, Long Run is solid but just looks very beatable these days, and I don't see Finians staying.
If Riverside Theatre is 100% he would be the danger, especially if Gerraghty is on board.
