didnt realise Baby Run was being aimed at the National. I like Western Charmer too but horses who ran in the Irish National dont have a great record at Aintree.

How can anyone say Horse X ticks all the boxes when we don't know the weights?
Report Far From Trouble January 14, 2012 7:53 PM GMT
Because I think it's fair to say that given his mark of 143 hell definitely get in, and off a decent weight
Report PeteTheBloke January 15, 2012 10:16 AM GMT
Well I'm no expert on horse racing, so I bow to your superior knowledge. I thought the
handicapper was allowed to shift horses from one mark to another.
Report Meat Loaf January 15, 2012 10:30 AM GMT
What makes you think it is rated 143 FFT? It was on 143 in Ireland last time, more likely to be around 141 in England after a poor run - making it a doubtful runner?
Report ak1979 January 15, 2012 11:32 AM GMT
141 has historitcally been enough to get into the race. Anything below 140 and you'd be a bit nervous. I note he has drifted a bit in recent days.
Report Meat Loaf January 15, 2012 11:43 AM GMT
I would say you will have to be at least 140 this year to stand a chance of getting in the race. Look a lot of horses around the 150 mark who are intended runners.

if anything...the h/capper raises irish marks....for the g.national
Report ak1979 January 15, 2012 11:53 AM GMT
Yeah fair point meatloaf. Hope Niche Market's mark hasnt dropped too much! 142 should be ok.
Report Meat Loaf January 15, 2012 12:00 PM GMT
Funnily enough i was looking at Niche Market yesterday. 142 looks a generous mark - I'm guessing they won't run him over fences until the weights are announced. You will get a run for your money from him but does he lack class?

A dark horse for the race for me is Little Josh who is dude to return next weekend. I have him at 1000s but I think he could be Twiston-Davies main hope in the race.

Trev's right Irish mark usually lower, often much lower.
Did Niche Market stay the distance last year?, looked to be going well yet faded late on.
Report ak1979 January 15, 2012 12:31 PM GMT
There is a stamina doubt but the lower weight may help.
Report ak1979 January 15, 2012 12:35 PM GMT
Little Josh- he wouldnt be allowed to run as things stand. He needs to be placed over 3 miles to qualify.
Report Far From Trouble January 15, 2012 12:53 PM GMT
Ok, whether he would get in or not is irrelevant to what I asked first up last night. Just wondered if there was any explanation of his weakness + drift in the market.
Report BJG January 15, 2012 2:14 PM GMT
Worrying scenes Scared
Report Meat Loaf January 15, 2012 2:30 PM GMT
I must admit I complelty forgot about the new national rule having to finish in the top 4 in a 3m chase- schoolboy error! That might be a tenner down the drain or to be layed off! However I will wait till after next weekends Pillar Chase (if it runs) as I've got a sneaky feeling Little Josh could run a big race in that. Twiston's horses often go well fresh.
Report ak1979 January 15, 2012 2:32 PM GMT
He appears to be entered in the Thyestes on 28 Jan
Report ak1979 January 15, 2012 2:33 PM GMT
Western Charmer, that is.
Report Meat Loaf January 15, 2012 2:35 PM GMT
If it runs badly in the Thyestes then it may struggle to get in the National. When do entries close and weights announced?
Report bazzar January 15, 2012 4:37 PM GMT
Weights published in early February.
