Timeform tipped this and Baby Run at the start of the season
By:
Cheers Steamship, i knew he stole it from somewhere #whistles

didnt realise Baby Run was being aimed at the National. I like Western Charmer too but horses who ran in the Irish National dont have a great record at Aintree.

I have been all over this one for a while now, was even gonna start a similar thread

How can anyone say Horse X ticks all the boxes when we don't know the weights?
By:
Because I think it's fair to say that given his mark of 143 hell definitely get in, and off a decent weight
By:
Well I'm no expert on horse racing, so I bow to your superior knowledge. I thought the
handicapper was allowed to shift horses from one mark to another. |
By:
What makes you think it is rated 143 FFT? It was on 143 in Ireland last time, more likely to be around 141 in England after a poor run - making it a doubtful runner?
By:
141 has historitcally been enough to get into the race. Anything below 140 and you'd be a bit nervous. I note he has drifted a bit in recent days.
By:
I would say you will have to be at least 140 this year to stand a chance of getting in the race. Look a lot of horses around the 150 mark who are intended runners.

if anything...the h/capper raises irish marks....for the g.national
By:
Yeah fair point meatloaf. Hope Niche Market's mark hasnt dropped too much! 142 should be ok.
By:
Funnily enough i was looking at Niche Market yesterday. 142 looks a generous mark - I'm guessing they won't run him over fences until the weights are announced. You will get a run for your money from him but does he lack class?
A dark horse for the race for me is Little Josh who is dude to return next weekend. I have him at 1000s but I think he could be Twiston-Davies main hope in the race. |

Trev's right Irish mark usually lower, often much lower. Did Niche Market stay the distance last year?, looked to be going well yet faded late on. |
By:
There is a stamina doubt but the lower weight may help.
By:
Little Josh- he wouldnt be allowed to run as things stand. He needs to be placed over 3 miles to qualify.
By:
Ok, whether he would get in or not is irrelevant to what I asked first up last night. Just wondered if there was any explanation of his weakness + drift in the market.

I must admit I complelty forgot about the new national rule having to finish in the top 4 in a 3m chase- schoolboy error! That might be a tenner down the drain or to be layed off! However I will wait till after next weekends Pillar Chase (if it runs) as I've got a sneaky feeling Little Josh could run a big race in that. Twiston's horses often go well fresh.

He appears to be entered in the Thyestes on 28 Jan
By:
Western Charmer, that is.
By:
If it runs badly in the Thyestes then it may struggle to get in the National. When do entries close and weights announced?
By:
Weights published in early February.
