It seems quite obvious now that Memphis Tennessee's Leger bid is in big trouble and Seville has taken over as the yard's No.1 hope. Unless I'm mistaken there hasn't been a dickie bird about this anywhere - not even on AM's godforsaken Twitter account. I find the lack of info from Ballydoyle regrettable, although, imo, the pressroom's collective zombiefied slumber is much worse. We are supposed to be relying on these guys to sniff out the story and you didn't have to be Columbo to work out on Wednesday that something was up. Maybe once the inside swines have finished stuffing their snouts in the ante-post trough we may get some clarity.
Anyway, if Seville has got the green light, I would say comparisons with Midas Touch may be both unkind and unwise. He deserves to be fav imo. |
By:
perhaps memphas has been sold (which happened to one of their leading ledger candidates last year.) In any case, Seville will
always be a sitting duck for any horse with a turn of foot and for that reason I think he is a poor fav. |
By:
Correct me if I am wrong but I thought Scorpion won the Leger by making all ?
I agree Seville does not looks like he has a turn of foot, but he might not need one over 14f. COT, I dont think BB will be running. Yorkshire Oaks next up. |

sintonian
I think BB will run; godolphin like the St Leger and they have no colt good enough this year. Provided BB is not too humiliated by the great Midday, the leger will follow after york. The reason I like her is that she is so stoutly bred and should improve for the trip. |

has Segal put something up today ?

What did Segal put up lads??

No idea Ruby.
I cant see much value at this stage myself. |
By:
He had Namibian.
By:
Namibian was PW.
Did Sir Tom get to hear anything about Memphis...? |
By:
No idea. Send AMOB a Tweet

AOB has confirmed Seville goes for the Grt.Voltigeur.
WOW goes for the Oaks. |
By:
Yep, sounds like AM was up late on Sunday night tweeting away again. Shame we're only getting the runners and not the non-runners, if you know what I mean.

I see French Navy is down to make his belated seasonal debut on Saturday at Newmarket over 10 furlongs.
He gave the impression he could be top class last season when he won his first 3 races all over a mile including a group 3. However, he flopped pretty badly in his last race, a group 1 at Saint Cloud also over a mile when Rodderic O'Connor thrashed him. That was on heavy groud. He hasn't been seen since. I remember after he won his group 3 Nick Mordin talked him up saying he was a real staying type and should be favourite for the Derby! When Pricewise did his preview of the Leger, Simon Crisford was quoted as saying the Leger was French Navy's target. Kieran Fallon is riding him on Saturday which is interesting. I wonder what has been up with him causing him to make such a belated debut? I have to say he is a big price for one who looked so promising last season. Couldn't help myself but have a dabble! |
By:
He must have had a setback of somekind, but nothing too major you would think given there is still 3 months of the season left.
Godolphin also have Laatafreet for this who is unexposed but needs to step up. |
By:
Didn't Stoute rule the leger out for Fiorente after his Goodwood defeat ? Im sure he said something pretty downcast .. still 12's here though .
By:
It was a bit hard not to be disappointed with Fiorente at Goodwood, although Namibian may just have been underestimated.
I remember when Namibian won the Queens Vase, it looked for all the world as if Solar Sky was going to pass him but he really dug in and found more. Fiorente did look to be held fair and square by Namibian at Goodwood and he (Namibian) gets a 3 lb pull in the Leger and is proven at the trip, which Fiorente is not. its hard to see Fiorente finding that much improvement in the few weeks between Goodwood and doncaster, but I suppose its not impossible. |
By:
Think French Navy looks interesting but can't see him staying and he's entered in the irish champion too, Latafreet looks interesting to me.
By:
Fallon booked for French Navy so they clearly mean business. Definitely remains of interest, although those of us with an inbuilt distrust of anything connected to Woodman will not relish seeing him so close up in the pedigree.
By:
headmaster
what's wrong with woodman. i seem to recall Bosra Sham was a relative and she was not krap. |
By:
Bosra a wonderful racemare, cot, absolutely. There will always be exceptions though and I know there are a few of us out there who work to the rule of thumb that Woodman is the absolute kiss of death. A large number don't seem to train on, flatter to deceive, prove inconsitent or just go backwards at some point in a big way. Given French Navy's current profile I thought that might be relevant. Though I should say he is damsire, not sire, and it's only an inbuilt distrust which tempers confidence (French Navy does feature in my Leger portfolio).
By:
French Navy won that easy enough but given the manner of the victory I'd be very worried that Godolphin won't be that keen to step him up to the 14 furlongs of the Leger.
By:
Yeah it was a bit workmanlike, not sure what he beat either.
By:
Hmmmmm. Any more recent clues chaps?

The Admiral 24 Jul 11 21:56
I really like the look of Sea Moon. This horse is still improving and the step up on trip will suit especially looking back at her last race. kennels1986 24 Jul 11 22:00 100% agree admiral, as i said above i thought it was between nathaniel and sea moon and now nathaniel isnt going to be in the race i very much like sea moon's chances. Hope to see it racing soon and will hope it settles into the race nicely great shout btw chaps. |
By:
I think we can put this thread to bed.
Sea Moon is your winner. |
By:
Oh, I dunno. Seville and Namibian didn't give their running. Sea Moon beat a good yardstick rated 105 by eight lengths at levels. On Saturday, Census beat a good yardstick rated 109 by about six lengths at levels. I'd prefer Sea Moon to Census but I don't think it's any sort of formality given the (slight) doubt over the extra distance.
By:
Either the Voltigeur fell apart in which case the Leger is still up for grabs or Sea Moon really is a 128p horse which would put his particpation in jeopardy imo.
Either way - keep punting ![]() |
By:
Having backed 2 horses in the Arc already, i'd be very worried if Sea Moon was rerouted.
By:
Having not had a bean on for the Leger but showing 1000 for the Arc I'd be absolutely bloody delighted sint
![]() |
By:
A bit similar to Nathaniel this one.
Both of them looked as if they were certainties for the Leger but won prep races far too impressively. I would not be in the least bit surprised if Sea Moon was rerouted to the Arc as well. Definately a no bet atm imh, After Sevilles flop, any chance Treasure Beach gets a shot at this? |
By:
Sea Moon - definite bounce material.
Remember Rewilding last year - bolted up in the Volt and bombed in the Leger. Also Sea Moon must be a delicate horse given his lack of outings. When the chips are down , a battle hardened Blue Bunting will have his measure. |
By:
Sea moon looks the best 3 y/o middle distance horse in europe bar none.
If he reproduces in the Leger(assuming the grounds not Heavy) its very unlikely he'll get beat. It's pointless discussing the form of the others as they are so far behind him. Your just betting on whether he will reproduce, which isn't a gimme given his fragile frame. |
By:
you would expect him not to just reproduce that effort,be massively improve from it,he could and should easily improve any amount for his next run
By:
but you are still jumping the gun saying he is the best 3yo.....................
By:
Agreed. He's won a handicap and a Group. He falls into the ''could be anything'' catergory.
Nice poaching Headmaster! Teddy Grimthorpe said they would consider it today, after the Leger. |
By:
* Group 2

Sea Moon
"could be anything " - reminds me of Await the Dawn this week. Give me solid G1 form any day of the week. Anyone backing Sea Moon at short prices is bonkers. |
By:
I've plucked out the Arc contenders from Timeform's current ratings. List looks like this, 3yos in bold:
134 SO YOU THINK 133 WORKFORCE 127 BEHKABAD 128p SEA MOON 127 NATHANIEL 126 SARAFINA 126 ST NICHOLAS ABBEY 124p POUR MOI 123 MEANDRE 120 RELIABLE MAN That's some number next to Sea Moon isn't it??? At 5/4 I'd want to be absolutely certain this was the target - and with a rating like that can we be sure the horse will turn up at Donny? |
