I would love to see Jason Maguire ride Kauto.  Only McCoy and Johnson rode more winners than him last season.

Think he is an excellent jockey and gave some great rides last year.  Can't think of any Donald McCain Hennessy horses and getting a ride like Kauto could take Maguire's career to the next level.

Paul Carberry will ride Pandorama in the Hennessy, which might mean he'd actually be available for Big Bucks on the same day - wouldn't be so sure about the future though. Murphy would be my choice for Kauto if they go for the Hennessy - but if Great Endeavour runs could well be claimed.

chocs a no-nonsence jock...and could steer kauto home....doubt he would have much for king in the big races atm...

surely he'll use AP as much as possible because he's the best jock and the wealthiest owners will expect the best jock available on the best horses.

Choc is out until the new year isn't he ?

Carberry was stood down earlier today after a fall in the first at Navan.

Fehily is a very good jockey over hurdles and has picked up a few PFN rides recentlytoo - I could see him suiting Big Bucks as well. Could be the answer there.

As for Kauto, I can't see Walsh being fit until at least a couple of months into the new year, so Hennessy or not, he'll need a ride in the King George. And if Waley-Cohen stays on Long Run (which is 1.01 that he does IMO), then I think Geraghty will get the ride on Kauto at Kempton.

Who will ride Kauto Star in the King George. Paddy Power bet: 1-4 AP McCoy, 4-1 Barry Geraghty, 10-1 Any Other jockey, 12-1 Sam Thomas.

As far as I know, yes Trev. I was watching RUK last week and their managing director was interview saying Choc was their Patron for the season or something, whilst he is recupertaing from injury. He will be at the track on all their NH racedays taking punters on a tour of the track etc,etc ...

CHAMPION jockey Ruby Walsh has come well through surgery to repair a double fracture in his right leg.

Ruby Walsh statistics
After a big-race double on Kauto Star in the JNwine.com Champion Chase and The Nightingale in the Ladbrokes.com Chase, Walsh crashed out with Corrick Bridge at the fifth in the 2m6f handicap hurdle.

Medics worked on the stricken jockey on the track, forcing the fence, which became the last, to be bypassed on the second circuit.

He was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast where x-rays showed he had broken his right tibia and fibula.

Orthopaedic surgeons examined and then operated on it on Sunday morning and agent and sister Jennifer Walsh, stewarding at Navan, said: "He's come out of surgery well and they were very happy with the way it went. We have no idea yet how long he will be out for."

Walsh returned to action only in mid-August after shattering his left arm in a fall from Celestial Halo on John Smith's Grand National day at Aintree in April.

fwiw, and we have no idea how bad the breaks are, but Aaron Ramsey broke his tib and fib in Feb this year and is not expected to return until December. So that makes 10 months.

Yeah this will be Kauto's last season you'd think. He'll probably have his last race in the Whitbread at Sandown. They'll announce it after the Gold Cup imo.

Hope you right re the Whitbread, usually go to that meeting, great day out.All the big race winners from Chelt and Grand National parade before racing, and Kauto running would top it off nicely.

He had an entry at Sandown last season, and Clive has said in two interviews 4 or 5 races this year. With defo nothing between Kempton and Cheltenham it'd make me think that the 5th he was talking about was Sandown.

It'll let them have the Gold Cup and then announce his last ever race in the B365 Chase. Kauto is an out and out stayer now, the 2009 Gold Cup, the Betfair chase and the King George all showed how his stamina is considerable. So top weight over 3m5f at Sandown will suit him down to the ground as an 11yo. Plus it's a handicap so they can get their chance to run in one if they skip the Hennessy

The only thing is they may want to add the Punchestown Gold Cup instead. It's a Grade 1 he hasn't won after all.

please god not mccoy.the man that managed to get best mate beat over 3miles

When: 07 Nov 10 20:51
McCoy was told to ride Matey like that as they didnt know he'd stay then. Not McCoys fault he left it too late.

He is the best jockey for Kauto in the King George especially if Kauto has lost some of his pace with age McCoy will have him staying on better than any other jockey imo.

I personally think Barry G is head and shoulders the best jock in the business. So would love him to get the ride. But we all know it'll be AP.

barry gerathy would be my choice for both or timmy or carberry . at least gersathy if he got the ride on big bucks would stop spouting how he still thinks punchestowns is better

Is this true? Isn't there a slight conflict of interest here, pls?

It should be Barry G, but please for God's sake let it not be Sam " I can't sit on a saddle" Thomas.

I don't think AP suits the horse either.

Whats wrong with AP cv,that you would say BG and PT are head and shoulders above him??

Dananderson have you watched Nick Schofield ride? Also how many big winners has he had for Andy Stewart? Think you will find not too many!
By:

When: 08 Nov 10 12:43
AP is brilliant, but I feel he's a bit on the decline, only a bit. I think Geraghty has been the best honk for the past two years and townend is greatness in the making.

Some may jest but i'd put a high quality horseman like Leighton Aspell on Kauto.Of course it wont happen (and can't really) but to be truly fair Kauto is NOT a horse who needs much "riding" and much like Goalkeeps you could put any one of 20 jocks on board and I'm sure they'd steet him to victory

Ruby said he will be out for 12 weeks meaning he'll be back for the Gold Cup and Cheltenham. Glad as I'd be a bit worried about Big Bucks without him.

Why ? It is not the end of the world. Lots of horse are quirky and still manage to win. BB also has the engine to get himslef out of trouble.

Just that he's a tricky ride and ruby knows him very well is all.

I just wonder if connections may now go to the Hennessy to give a possible new jockey a feel for Kauto before riding him again in the KG?
By:

Well that wont be AP if Binocular runs at Newcastle, cant imagine JP not having him ride.
By:

When: 08 Nov 10 18:02
Very good point Bud, I'd forgotten about the Fighting Fifth being on the same day. He'd definitely be on Binocular if he runs. Probably why Barber has more or less confirmed Sam Thomas for Denman. If Henderson has a horse in and David Johnson, that'll be Murphy & Geraghty out too, Carberry should be riding Pandorama, doesn't leave many of thr top drawer jockey's available

Noel Fehily riding for Nicholls at Exeter today

I did mention Fehily further up the thread as a possibility, and I still think he is. Although I much prefer him over hurdles than fences.
