Just about to mention Lads! Doesn't show on the main page in Oddschecker but if click on the horse's name (for the history) it shows all current prices including some aren't on the main screen. Lads one example... Often find this the case with AP markets.

The MoM / Sanbuch form is also strong my concern was MoM's number of races but he's a tough bugger sure to run well so gl !

On his York running Philanthropy has every chance of confirming the form with Sanbuch, and quite possibly has the beating of MOM who is very closely handicapped with the Cumani horse. Neil Callan has been booked and the 25/1 with Korals stands out.
Philanthropy 1pt 25/1.

Looked closely at that one DD and agree that 25s does look fairly generous. My only concern was that given the likely field size he probably wont get his own way up front which I felt could comprimise his chances. But given my recent flat form I'm probably way off the mark ;)

Interesting given the trainer AR and his 2nd in the race last year. Hard to assess how good he is though given what hes beaten to date.
Can't believe there's doubt about the participation of MOM if it remains g/f. One of the reasons I like him is because he's won twice on it already ffs!

Think Akarem is ready to go with Darley booked. He's unquestionably well-treated, but I wouldn't touch him unless I was told it was going to rain.
As it is, Malt Or Mash really appeals as a progressive type. No idea what Hannon is on about as regards to ground, but for that reason my money remains in my pocket for the time being.

Coming round to DD's slection if it remains g/f. 3yr olds off a light wieght do well in this although not sure who will be on board if YM stays in. Ryan seems quietly confident about his chances and to a level stake his horses make a nice profit at Doncaster. At least he has some proper form in the book.
Still worried about being taken on up-front but that's mitigated by the price...

AR, Tropical Strait is obviously improving , this is his first season and only run 5 times. Likeable sort and down the bottom of the weights. Apparently going for this so 16.0's on here looks a fair price.Firm ground will suit. He's my bet.

Last six runs: 14 of the last 15 winners had won at least once in their last six races.
LTO: horses that won LTO, or were beaten less than 4L, have provided 14 of the last 15 winners.
Negative 33-1 or bigger have recorded 1 win from 99 qualifiers.
Market: 5 of the 15 winners have come from the top three in the betting; there have been no winners in the last seven years.
Last six runs: horses that failed to win at least one of their last six races have provided just 1 winner from 89 qualifiers
Course LTO: horses that raced at Doncaster LTO have provided just 1 winner from 64 runners.
Distance LTO: runners dropping in trip have provided just 1 winner from 60 qualifiers for a loss
General Favourites (inc. joints): there have been 2 winning favourites from 17; backing all selections would have made a small loss. In a big field handicap these stats are fairly normal.
Age:
Three year olds have provided 8 winners from 93 runners
Four year olds have provided 4 winners from 119 runners
Five year olds have provided 2 winners from 52 runners
Six year olds and older have provided 1 winner from 69 runners
The front end of the betting market has had a poor record in recent years, which is perhaps no surprise considering the large field and competitive nature of the race. Positives to focus on included horses that won or finished within 4L of Of the winner LTO. These runners have been14 times more likely to win than horses beaten 4L or more. Applying this trend should narrow down the field by around half, which in this type of race is a great starting point. If we combined this stat with horses that have finished in the first four in their last two runs, backing all qualifiers would have produced a profit, In terms of age groups, three year olds have by far the best record. My short list are

I'm just around the corner and whilst it's a bit overcast and rain is forcast it doesn't look like raining at all. Course looks incredibly well and if it doesn't change it looks as if it will be safe quick good ground. Fabulous surface with the new grass. It is though incredibly windy nad if this stays until saturday you will need a pretty strong horse to get home because it is in their faces all the way up the straight.

lol indeed, but tis a nice voucher :) and a big run looks on the cards. Think they're being a bit ott regarding the ground concerns like you say.
With the merest of tweaks my pick Heron Bay - who would not want any rain at all - also "fits". His last run should be ignored as he was apparently unsuited by the softened good ground, prior to that his 4 L last of nine to Yellowstone in the Group 3 Gordon Stakes would mark him as a serious enough animal off 105 and I'm presuming they haven't kept him for this just for a run around.
We shall see but I'm tempted to top up the e/w 20s with some 12s if the ground dries up. gl !

think dzesmin deserves a mention.
some very good performances in defeat this year. he's off 80 and capable of a lot better given he's a group and listed winner. won lto and seems to be peaking. showed nice battling qualities lto too handles the ground, won over the trip and has a nice draw wouldnt be a fan of his jock but at 33/1 he's probably the most solid of outsiders

I honestly believe that Malt could go as short as 5/1, 9/2 or shorter by the off. I'm almost certain that Sir Tom will put it up as it perfectly fits his usual progressive profile pick. I would be surprised also if other national titpsters don't go in big on this esp Ron Cox in the Guardian whose as good a judge as they come. The 7's still looks huge. I've filled up at 12's ante post and 8's earlier today (now declared). We shall see.

I was very impressed with his win at HQ (my clock was too). The straight course that day would've suited this big lump of a galloper, but so will Donny's long straight.
Sanbuch never looked like over-hauling him lto imo, but may be the danger again. However, if they go eyeball-to-eyeball again I'd rather be with the gutsy Malty.

Eddie Jock in the Brittanica Handicap. To get a 50/1 winning NAP was very special. From a non punting angle Peeping Fawn was a joy to watch but I dont think this year was a vintage season. Signs are though 2008 might be very special, fingers crossed.

Heavily weighted horses have run well in this in the past and I wdn't rule out New Guinea and Greek Envoy. The Tate horse seemed to improve for the step up in the trip lto and he cd be delivered late from the widest draw.
Otherwise the only horse I've backed so far is Sanbuch ew at 12s. I've no strong reason to believe he will reverse form w/ Malt or Mash other than the fact he's had a lighter season and has run his best races in competitive and valuable hcaps. The Hannon horse is particularly solid and a better jolly imv than either Pippa (faces stiffest test) and Heaven Knows (won weak race lto and has not fulfilled promise).

"He's a big horse who hits the ground hard and is a very good prospect for next year.

The other slightly more original selection is Lundy's Lane, likes the ground, stays the trip and is a model of consistentcy since returning from Dubai. While he probably isn't brilliantly weighted but is only a couple of pounds higher than when bustling up Bauer at Chester and being rather unlucky in the Old Newton Cup, is vunerable to improvers but at the price is worth chancing that he might take the big pot he deserves to collect.
As for this season I can't complain to say the least! Easily my best flat season ever:
Highlights: Eddie Jock (Royal Ascot), Candidato Roy (Ascot 7f Handicap) and Miss Luicifer (Challenge Stks) would be the biggest price winners, but there were a far few others, lets hope the jumps season is as good to me! Lowlights: Thankfully not too many although drawing blanks at Newmarket's July and York's Ebor meeting were expensive and Players Please getting chinned a few weeks ago at 33/1 stung also!

My season, somewhat perversely, runs from 1st July to 30th June. This way all the AP bets for Aintree, Cheltenham, Classics & Ascot are included in the correct year.
2007/8 Flat has been disappointing so far with the only bright spots on the flat being Countdown, Third Set, Zidane & Monte Alto. Over the jumps I was fortunate to latch onto the forum gamble on Mossbank, not much else so far. Profit to date is just 1.6% on stakes - better than a loss though and still plenty of time to improve matters.
The 2nd half of 2006 flat was OK with Les Arcs, Reverence, Fantasy Explorer, London Express, Supaseus, Pinpoint & Plum Pudding all making welcome contributions. Early 2007 was disappointing other than Finsceal Beo (14s). 2006/7 overall made a decent return largely due to the exploits of Overstarnd & Dunbrody Miller over the jumps.

highlight...authorised,always nice when a winter antepost abliges..16s
teslin back to form at 75s was nice.doubt if i can nail another 100+ winner of the p.p this year though..ahhh ..memories..

Street Sense winning the K Derby...won about 2k that night. what a sensational ride.
Royal Ascot and York. Monster wins on Miss Andretti and Manduro.
York was just carnage...Purple Moon the main money spinner but landed massive touch on Duff @ 22/1 who benefited from a powerpacked Declan McDonagh ride....he's my favorite jockey as some of you know so it meant alot.
Suppose another highlight was all the Luca Cumani trained winners - Purple Moon, Speed Gifted, Boz, Bauer, Lion Sands, Monte Alto to name a few. He's had a fine ol' season and hopefully it'll contiune tomorrow with Sanbuch.
Also it was nice to spend a bit of my winnings and travel abroad for the international meetings...Arc Weekend, Dubai World Cup and Irish Champion Stakes day were awesome. I already have my tickets and hotels sorted for Dubai again! cant wait.
Lowlights:
Efficient mowing down Purple Moon in the Melbourne Cup. Backed PM @ 50/1 antepost to win about 5k.
Also Soldier of Fortune....backed him 3 times and lost over a grand. 5th in the Derby, non runner in the King George and 5th in the Arc.
one time i don't back him he hacks up by 10lengths.
And I'll end this were I started....Street Sense...had half my salary on him eachway @ 5/1 and he faded into 4th :-|
all in all had a great time.....came out on top and just waiting for Cheltenham now.

New Guinea for myself, had a prep at this track behind Galactic Star and this isnt the strongest of races, any moister in the ground from the cold night will make the ground perfect and over this trip the horse has ran wll so many times, yard in solid form, Darryl Holland does very well for the boys in blue has a good record around this track that suits his riding style and is at his best this time of year, brought from Michael Jarvis and already beaten his stable mate who stays 10F on soft but struggles over this trip, will confirm that form and despite the rise in weight means he has top weight it isnt a strong race and has won a listed class race. This Gelding by Fantastic Light will be kept in trainning as a 5yo and be contesting group 3 next season.
Yard is flying and biggest danger is Heavens Knows if staying the trip in a strongly ran race, a few like Greek envoy need it deeper underfoot while the 3yo have a good record in this race and there are some progressive runners in this race the age for weight this time of the year will even out the playing field for the older more proven horses today under the conditions.
Top weights have done badly in this race in recent years but the conditons this year are like no other years, Akraem could be a danger but Philliantrophey has to be backed for Kevin Ryan record at this track and has ran some nice races so far this season, big fields may be a concern as he likes to dictate but at 20-1 must nave some sort of chance.
New Guinea e/w 20-1 for myself.

Well done to all Malty devotees and to regular contributors who have consistently unearthed gems all year. On with the jumps!
Fantastic way to end the season :) Well done to all Malty devotees and to regular contributors who have consistently unearthed gems all year. On with the jumps!
Great win by Malt or Mash today, nice to see a lot of you were on it too (i wish i had posted a few days ago as it looks like classic aftertiming now !).
Highlights of the flat season for me would be any 'big' winner, usually in a h'cap,so horses like Juniper Girl,Monte Alto and today's win by Malt or Mash (all at 10's) are paticularly memorable with Haatef in the Diadem another decent priced (14/1) winner.Another one that springs to mind was the 'inspired' in running bet on the rallying Ramonti in the Queen Anne Stakes which was matched at 22's - a very welcome 'bonus'.
Lowlights would be numerous but possibly the 2 most dissapointing would be the shocking riding of P.Doe on Malt or Mash at Sandown a few months back,as although he managed to get him to dead heat i think we all know that the horse should have been a clear winner off a mark of 84 !
Most painful though, and one which proved most costly was the win of Third Set at Newmarket in the summer. He was a particular unexposed favourite of mine and one i was keen to follow this term but ridiculously i was unable to get any money on him for his first win (16/1 but 25's on here) due to my bank suspending all activity on my bank cards due to fraudsters stealing a paltry 60 from my account.
As is typical of me,after missing the Third Set 'wedding',i was sulking and refused to back him at the reduced odds next time at Ascot (got a feeling i was worried about the ground as well) and to add absolute insult to injury he again goes in a few days later at Goodwood.I can't put into words how unbelievably painful it is to see one of your 'notebook, must follow' horses win 3 times on the trot at decent prices when you haven't had a shilling on,i literally missed out on 'new car or very expensive holiday' money, which i obviously haven't got over yet!!!!.
Lesson to self - treat each bet seperately on its merits (and grow up!).

Academic Rambler 06 Nov 12:13 The MoM / Sanbuch form is also strong my concern was MoM's number of races but he's a tough bugger sure to run well so gl !
Same as Sint glad the forum boys collected ! :) Heron Bay ran a shocker why did they bother if he wasn't fit? :0
Highlights : Juniper Girl was exhilerating; Pevensey was a right touch; Excellent Art and Manduro at Royal Ascot; Notnowcato double figures in Ireland; The Ballysax 1-2; Authorized brilliant @ 10s in the Derby and...Blythe Knight :x beating Osana at Aintree and Wide Dennis at York. Charlie Tokyo in the John Smith's and the Breeders Cup went well again... and so on.... great season for me ...
Lowlights : Were numerable. All sprints. Disastrous. Cliff horse Montpellier. And that very first race - when a teed up and fairly big hit on Rio Riva @ 16s was done by the draw in the Lincoln :| Glorious Goodwood was anything but, not pretty and ohhh the MooN in Melbourne I still have a tear...
Today apart the jumps has started very well. May the forum remain strong, for we are quite clearly the daddys of this game B-)
;)
