My one antepost bet on the Nat is Ballytrim ave odds 156.39. Placed following its win at Punches in May. Will need to find another 10lb or so based on Irish ratings. Got an entry for the Hennesey...

He was entered in the 1:55 as well. The trianer had hoped to run him at Aintree next week which would have been nice. Although he still may well do.

Let's hope he comes back safe. I like this one.

Did anyone see any Grand National pointers/encouragement this weekend? I thought Mon Mome ran a belter and I was put off by Offshore Account.

Niche Market jumped and ran well. Has finished 3rd in the Hennessy, and doesn't get punished much for it. Apart from that, I was thinking that the National pointers were at Newcastle. However, it is difficult to work out which one to run with, isn't it, when there are various 7yos turning 8 who might not run, other horses who the trainers think won't stay much further than 3m, and deciding whether to go for one that finished in a place, or one that blew up.

Anyone any opinions on Backstage?

Same sire as Mon Mome, but someone has probably already mentioned that.

The information has for some reason been removed from the pedigree query site, but I think Birikil, the sire of the 4th dam, was taken from France to Germany during the Second World War. He was repatriated after the war, but he must have been pining for his old comrades in the SS, because after a couple of years he was shipped to Argentina!

Backstage - too much pace in his pedigree, suggests he wont stay

Hello Bud has to be the best bet for the national so far

Have never been before and probably going in April. Would appreciate if anyone who has been a few times could advise on what tickets to get. Would like to have a good view of the race.

Thanks dibble. Do you just buy a County or Sefton ticket or is there a seperate entry ticket required also.
By:
dibble27
When: 09 Dec 09 21:22
u can just buy them online now as single tickets jgf on aintrees website but i would get the tickets early coz they tend to sell out quite quick 4 national day.. the west tip stand is 1 to stay away from they sell them tickets quite cheap but u dont get 2 see much other than the 2 fences b4 the chair

What I meant was, does a County Stand ticket include entry to the course or do you have to pay an entrance fee in addition? Cheers in advance.
By:
Mully
When: 10 Dec 09 10:54
No, it's all included in the price. You get an entrance ticket with your badge :-)

I thought Possol ran really well too, looked a picture in the pre-parade ring and won pretty easily, I've had a few quid on.

What do you think about the hurdles route though? Could easily catch him out when he tackles the bigger ones.
