Tbh this race looks an absolute minefield
 First thoughts are that this will probably go to a foreign raider. They have won the last 6 renewals(I still class Equiano as Spanish) so it seems to be a growing trend. Todd Pletcher sends over Bridgetown to be his first ever British runner and in my opinion he rates excellent value. He looks to be all speed and this 5f test should be perfect for him. |

There should be a lightning pace to this race, Overdose, Tangerine Trees and Bridgetown all like to bowl along so maybe that will set it up for a closer?
I'm not so confident with my original selection now  Kingsgate Native and Sole Power look the most likely of the home contingent to profit should this be the case. Star Witness would also prefer this as he clearly stays further than 5f. War Artist is also interesting as he looks as good as ever this Season with some cracking efforts in Dubai. See what I mean about a minefield? Forgot to mention that fillies have a good record in the race too  |

The Aussie horses coming over for the sprints are certainly a rung or two below the good horses who have been sent in recent years.

Very difficult race to assess . You'd have to respect the Usa and aussie runners . If it came up on the soft side Overdose would have a chance as well. Sole power prefers a flat track. Of the english runner i like
Astrphysical jet who should get perfect conditions. You'd have to excuse his very poor first run for no apparent reason. |

If you the 2 aussie horses aren't in the league of previous exports then 1 of 2 things has happened. Either poor research or you don't buy into black caviar's (and to lesser extent) hay list's hype.

I've seen many sprinters run down the flemington straight, and never have I seen a horse like Black Cavier. Hay list is a monster of a horse and has had injury trouble, but when sound would be as good as any we have sent over barring maybe Takeover Target, and the mare makes him look third rate. If both the horses sent this year have settled in well they are legitimate conteders

I think that it is Kingsgate Native's turn. He went very close first time out and Stoute's horses seem a bit backward this year.

I've plumped for Pletcher's horse. Can't get away from the fact that it is his first UK runner.
His form looks pretty decent and I have a hunch(just a hunch mind)that he will be faster than the Aussies. 14/1 worth a poke imh |

Seemingly she's a straight track specialist. She has only ran at 4 tracks , Vaal, Turfontein, Happy Valley and Sha Tin. I wanted to check out this straight track trend but I'm not having must joy finding maps of any of these racecourses. Could anyone help? |

5F 11132111231 6F 531523098 I found out Turffontein has a straight 5/6f track and that Sha Tin has a 5f chute. She obviously is a 5f horse and I read she has run well well on Hong Kong gd/yld whatever that is like.  |

One or maybe more of the foreign raiders might be too classy?, but at around 25/1 Group Therapy might be worth an ew nibble, stayed on strongly from an unpromising position behind Sole Power and Kingsgate who are much more prominent in the betting.

cheers Sindar. Had a look through her form and whilst 5f on good ground appears to be her plum conditions, she has been beaten many times at G2 and G1 level. Her win last time out she was receving a fair bit of weight and was favoured bu the conditions so I wonder if she is good enough.
It might be best to stick with the Aussie horse. Apparently his poor run last time out was due to Top Gear being filmed nearby and it lit him up,stressed him out, no sh1t! |

fwiw just asked for 25 e/w MR C @ 33/1 with Sly Bet and only got offered 15.15 stake! Only ever had one losing bet before with them, so not a limited account.
got 25 e/w @ 33/1 with Billies. Will pop down to no morals soon for a bit more. Likely strong pace means it could set-up nicely for Mr C as long as Mr Hughes doesn't find a blocked route! |

Interesting race this.
Star Witness has very big wraps on him and Danny O'Brien wouldn't be bringing the horse over if he didnt think he could win. He is probably the 4th best sprinter in Aus at the moment, with 1 and 2 (Black Caviar and Hay List) being absolute freaks of nature. IMO the horses 2nd in the Patinak farm when beaten 4 by the wonder mare would be good enough to win this. However, it is worth noting that the horse can get quite stirred up prior the the race. (O'Brien mentions the last start at Flemington, but worth noting he was quite hot headed 1st up in February in Aus) and he has never tried on soft going. His breeding suggests he should swim, (both Mum and Dad were very capable on slow going), but imo he is short enough at the current quote. |

Thought Swiss Diva was overpriced at 16s, certainly looked Gp1 potential in both runs before his flop in the Abbeye, dunno what to think about the excuse that day (apparently banged his head leaving the stalls) but I'd be prepared to forgive a horse one bad run and he was 11/4jf for that race. Rain would help but the ground didnt look that soft on his last win at Longchamp so maybe just needs to avoid fast gd rather than get soft gd so should be ok here.

It's only 1 race in your carnival but for what its worth.
Our previous contenders had more credentials in the lead up to Ascot. Some had WFA performance figures. Most had performed highly in our Flemington 'Newmarket'G1 race (6furlongs). Star Witness Won a G1 race (6f) as a 2year old(Southern hemisphere) Won a G1 race(6f) as an early 3yo(southern hemisphere)It was primed for this with a close 2nd to Hay List 5 days prior in a Jump out and held that form with a 2nd to Black Caviar 7 days after its win in the 3.y.o. That's the plus side The down side (for me) The 12 horses it beat in the 3yo have hardly won another race between them. The lead up performance to your Ascot in our 'Newmarket'G1 was sub standard finishing 7th/11 2 runs that(last) campaign failed to produce anything 3rd & 7th I wish it well, It owes me nothing and gave me a 'Ginormous' result in the G1 3y old. But i won't be touching it and suggest that if it 'could' perform then it would enhance its Stallion potential, which for me is the main reason they would venture to Ascot. |

I hope they have been busy polishing the trophy to hand to yet another Aussie victor of this race. From what I read into this field, is aside frm Overdose who seemingly is struggling a bit, it is a relatively weak edition of the race. Kinsgate Native the obviosuly class... STAR WITNESS will go over there and do as every other high-class Aussie sprinter does when they grace your fair shores - absolutely sh*t in. Dont be fooled - this sprinter is right up there with eevry other sprinter who we have sent before...who has come to the mother land and conquered...Last campaign Moody mistakenly thought this horse would get a mile, and for the first part of the campaign he was trained accordingly. Mkae no mistake, he is an out and out sprinter who is more than capable of winning this race. Eight Ball is correct, going back to the sprint Star Witness was the second best peformed horse in the Country, behind of course Black Caviar who would demoralise this field. His jumpout leading up to Cup week was some of the best work you are ever likely to see, and he proceeded to win on Derby Day on an unstuiable softening surface (probably to only question mark over the hrose heading into tonight - how is the track over there?). I think we all know how good his subsequent run was in the Patinack when only beaten 4L by the World Best Sprinter... I see $6 is being offered up on BF - this looks tremendous value and I urge you all to take advantage of the overs on offer. I wouldn't judge the horse on his last start 7th, and if you do so I would say it will be to your detrement. |

Star Witness isn't quite ready apparently. Didn't travel over well and hasn't been himself since getting there. My friend is Stevie's (the jockey) cousin. His Mum spoke to him last night. Make of it what you will. Probably sh*t up now I've passed on this!

Star witness is hit and miss. Also, he's - at best - tied as the 3rd best sprinter in Aus. Obviously there's BC and Hay Lisy are lengths in front of him, but Crystal Lily and Hinchinbrook (running in the jubliee stakes) are more or less on par with him.
Having said that, if he runs to his best I think he'll win and i've taken him with CC,SYT and Frankel. But it's certainly not my main bet lol |

MUTTLEY - you are probbaly onto the one chink in his armour - if he hasn't travelled well it might be another story...he can get worked up in his barm (which happened leading up to our Newmarket - his last run). That might be his downfall I suppose- but all being equal he is much better than a $6 pop

Its horse racing. Everyone is in it to make a quid... Jockeys and trainers are no different to owners. it can drift all it wants, i'll be smashing into it every time it moves out..
