I seem to be leaning towards the french superstar if she's anythng close to 6/4 on the day, I think CC is simply over rated! Has he actually beat a class group 1 miler thus far????

Whereas I need not to mention Goldie's achievements over the same distance - UK/US or France.

Goldikova will no doubt follow her pacemaker.  Cape blanco could then set up 2 different races by racing
very wide of the pacemaker and setting his own pace. Hughes will no doubt follow Goldikova , but CC is a bit
of a target horse who likes to beat the horses around him. If Cape blanco finds a faster strip of ground
(AOB  will have walked the track pre-race) he could be clear before CC's and Goldikovas turns of foot have been
unleashed. Hughes will be aware of this , but what can he do about it? very little.

That's why I wouldn't mind seeing Peslier track Hughes. It would be a sight to behold: the two of them still on the bridle, 2 out, both waiting to push the button.

Unfortunately I expect Goldikova to race handy, thus giving Canford Cliffs something to aim at.

i find it hard to see why anyone would want to take a short price either of them,id have thought theres no real value in backing either of them.its basically a toss of a coin amnd theyre priced accordingly.unlikely theyll both get beat but you nevr know.
Report brigust1 June 13, 2011 9:42 AM BST
For any thinking punter this is a LAY for both the favourites. You lose eff all if one wins but win big if the both lose.
As you can see from above neither are unbeatable and I have been backing Cape Blanco for a while now.
If you look at their individual form neither have had to pass a proper Group 1 horse on equal terms. They will have to this time while watching out for each other.
Jamie knows exactly what his dangers are doing so I expect him to lead after a couple of furlongs then gradually quicken up from half way. Passing such a horse in full flight is not like passing lowly rated front runners. With Goldi she is usually racing against other finishers, Paco Boy etc, not so this time.
Thrilling race ahead and I can see them both losing.

Your talking utter rubbish brig, just showing yourself to be a total idiot when it comes to this race or racing in general for that matter

The FACT is that Canford and Goldikova will finish 1st and 2nd in that order and if you cant see that then you need serious help

i say 'you have been p1ssing money down the drain then'

So much hot air! The grounds now good to soft - will this hinder Canford?
Report brigust1 June 13, 2011 11:46 AM BST
That is not necessary TFM. I am just as entitled to my opinion as you are.
In the meantime why not tell me which Gr1 horse either Goldikova or Canford Cliffs has beaten that has not been beaten further or is better than the Gr1 horses Cape Blanco has beaten? Take your time, I am patient.
Report SEATHESTARS....NO1 June 13, 2011 11:55 AM BST
I don't get the argument your trying to make brigust or anyone else for that matter that looks at the form in that way. You said In the meantime why not tell me which Gr1 horse either Goldikova or Canford Cliffs has beaten that has not been beaten further or is better than the Gr1 horses Cape Blanco has beaten? This is neither here nor there as they have in equal measure been racing against the same horses thus beating the same horses time and time again by varying distances from differing circumstances. There is not that many top class group 1 class horses in training! Also, horses have off days, they cannot speak English, so how can anyone tell whether a particular horse e.g has turned up at the race track to run in a race, has a headache for example? You can't. It is different if e.g there is heat found in a leg or something cos this shows up on the outside.

I think the betting has it spot on! And, if it is a toss of a coin, YES please, i'll take 5/4 and 13/8 about to even money chances thank you!!
Report TheFormMan June 13, 2011 12:01 PM BST
I apologise

But your question is irrelevant as tomorrows race is over a mile and CB has never in his life raced over a mile before so comparing what he has done against horses over 10f is pointless

You are tipping a horse who has never in his life raced over a mile and would not have the speed to even if he had a rocket up his ass against 2 of the fastes milers that we have seen in the last decade-its beyond fantasy
Report brigust1 June 13, 2011 12:16 PM BST
I'm not arguing STS, I'm just putting forward an alternative and supporting it with facts. At the moment that is all I can do. If CB wins and I started stating facts after the race everyone will be calling me an after-timer.
I genuinely think this is not a 2 horse race, like most people. And like most people I am wrong  sometimes.
However CB has all of the necessary credentials to win. He definitely stays the trip, is definitely Group 1 material and definitely has form lines to beat both of the dangers.
Add to that the fact that he has an uncomplicated running style which, on a stiff track and a straight mile will improve his chances. Plus he knows exactly what his dangers will do.
Makes sense to me and I fully expect to be collecting tomorrow.
I have as much chance of being wrong about my 16 and 18/1 chance as you have with your 5/4 and 11/8 chance. THat has to be sense.

Comparisons
Canford Cliffs comes to this race with 5 group wins (4 Group 1 over 8f)

Paco Boy came to the 2009 race with just one group 1 win (over 7f)
Paco Boy tried to repeat his success 2010 when beaten by Goldikova with 3 group 1 wins – but the repeat win stat for QA was also against him.

Goldikova as a 4yo prior to her Grp1 win at Nmkt had 3 G1 wins (all 8f) to her c.v.
She now has 13 Group 1 wins (10 at 8f) in her c.v. Only two runs in UK and both wins on second run of year.

It would appear that Canford Cliffs is better at this stage of his career than both Paco Boy and Goldikovaat the age of four – based upon his 4 group 1 wins compared to both Paco Boy (one GP 1 win) and Goldikova (3 GP 1 wins).

Saying that there is no comparison available with the mare v horse at the ages.

It's case of sticking Canford Cliffs in a multiple or jackpot bet if you have to

I prefer to watch and see if any of the race stats uphold this year
either the poor Course win stats for this race (three) - or the 6yo upwards win stats (none in last 32 years)  - or Queen Anne repeat win stats (none since • Dean Swift – 1906, 1907 )
Report TheFormMan June 13, 2011 12:29 PM BST
Your right, not even the mighty Rakti could win this as a 6 yo and 9 of the last 10 winners have been colts also

I not saying CB is not interesting in this race, he certainly is, but i like many don't expect him to have the pace to live up to CC or Goldi. However going back to it being interesting, yes it is, and yes i could also be wrong like many others, as he has only ever raced over 7f 10f and 12f but never 8f, although not 7f since his 2 yr old days (without looking i'm not sure educated guess lol) which is why i would be surprised he would have the pace.

However, he is almost certain (all being well and they all run to form) to finish 3rd, so if you have backed e,way brigust antepost your on with 3 places and good luck to you you have some nice prices. I can see it possibly finishing 2nd, but i would be surprised if he won.

brigust with all due respect you seem to be plucking at straws and your reasoning as to why CB will beat them is ridiculous. neither is unbeatable and esp now that the rain has come but on even your selection wants good ground and would have a small chance of turning over the 2 favs. his price now is silly but if u are on at bigger then fair enough.

provided there hasnt been much rain i believe she will be hard to beat. cityscape is prob the biggest outsider with a chance now that the ground is getting soft.

Why does everyone think insulting others opinions is the way to go.

Anyone who backs Goldi is gambling against at least Canford Cliffs.
Anyone who backs CC is gambling against Goldi.
No-one knows who will win or be better of the two. Unless I'm missing soething.
If you back or lay both you will win or lose not a lot.
The angle I am coming from I have backed up with my theories previously, I don't know what will happen but, and it is a big but, if I am right I will win a lot or lose a little. I would rather be where I am than anywhere else.
That's all.

My opinion of Canford Cliffs has still not changed

He is indeed the real deal. Travels so well in his races and seems to do enough to win and no extra, giving the impression that he has a lot more in his locker. Hughesy and Hannon know this and know exactly how he should be ridden now, as long as there is a target to aim at he'll catch them. He has most certainly improved a ton since getting beat in the Greenham and Guineas and there may well be more to come from him

As much as I adore Goldikova she hasn't had a test like this since Zarkava, and personally think we will see something very special from Canford Cliffs

Report brigust1 June 14, 2011 7:16 AM BST
The tactics are these. With Goldi drawn 1 and CC drawn 6 then CC will have to drop in at the rear and Goldi will either have to sit wide or drop in with CC.
Meanwhile CB drawn 4 will get the rail in front of the pacemaker drawn 2. RDLP and RN will sit in 3rd and 4th. Jamie will dictate from the front and both Goldi and CC will have to hope for breaks or circle the field. My guess is OP will keep RH on the rails at the back and wait for a late run. While he is doing this Jamie will be clearing off into the sunset.
Simple.

IF SO... that is equal to the length he was beaten... W.A.C.T. he is... get in the effing sauna and get the weight off you useless plonkerrr... I actually backed both cc AND goldie to equal stakes so made a small 25% profit with which I very happy... but the fact she seemed not to quite fire when the button was pushed, was a little lively in the ring before and the jock was 2lb (apparently) O/W will have made a difference...  actually came out of the race much more impressed with Goldie than I was with Canford, having never seen her in the flesh before... lovely light frame, perky on her toes... cheeky with her trainer afterwards, bucking him - he was gentle as a lamb with her... she will win a couple more Grp1s before the end of the season and may well beat CC at Goodwood if she/e turns up (she's Not entered) or somewhere else because she wasn't quite at her best today and the jock wasn't quite at his best either and obviously either forgot to give the missis a portion last night or had too many croissants on the eurostar...

Dear oh dear

Glad I only went in small, but OP, dreadful in match race of the year so far and he is overweight!

Boggles the mind

I backed Cape Blanco, didn't lay off in running. Ran terribly. Only lost a little and lets hope we have a chance to get some recompense in the future. I think the 2lb, I thought it was a pound only, didn't make the slightest difference. The ground was probably the most significant factor. On good or faster grund I think the winner would always win, on softer it may be a different story.

Brigust... It was announced as 1lb before the race... but apparently on here people are saying he weighed in TWO pound over and RP results page confirms that... TWO POUNDS - that is the length she was beaten...

I take your point about the ground... but I think it's more likely it's age... She would have beaten CC last year and Hughes was still too far back imho in the race on CC... he got home/past her because her turbo didn't fire, OP was 2lb over and CC now stays 11f possibly 12...

Not talking out of my pocket - backed both - and still love CC, but liked every inch I saw of Goldie

Frankel will murder both if they ever meet... save HIS turbo until the 7th or 8th furlong and he shoots five lengths clear at the one pole and TQ's suddenly a hero and not queasy at the though

...t of getting Frankel beaten through panic or misjudgement
Report Far From Trouble June 15, 2011 11:27 AM BST
Pretty sure Canford will beat Frankel

Faster they go for him the better
Report brigust1 June 15, 2011 11:38 AM BST
I think CC's a miler, thats all. And yesterday probably just confirmed form. Makfi beat him and beat her. I also think last years form is beginning to look better than this year. Take Frankel away and what have you got? Roderick O'Connor, Dubawi Gold, Zoffany, Dream Ahead. Looks weaker than last years.

FFT - Frankel, ridden differently, would murder him

Frankel took ten lengths out of the field at the start of the Guinneas and five yesterday at the three pole off a good pace...

Queally should sit BEHIND CC and say to Hughes... ride a proper race mate coz I'll out-kick you any time I want... in fact ride any race tactic Hughesie and Frankel outkicks CC... if he's dropped in and idles with his high cruising speed they could push that turbo any time and take 5l out of CC with Hughies still paddling with his arxxrse in the air - he's over-rated, just gets to ride some stars and makes him look good. Good hold up jockey but taht's ALL he can do...

Frankel has proven the turbo works at the start (Guinneas), 5 pole (Yesterday) and no reason why it cld no be used @ the 1 pole in a 8/9/10 furlong race...

Imagine he'll go to Juddemont International next and PLEASE GOD TQ holds him up and presses the nitro inside the last furlong...

Canford has the speed to lay up with anything, i'm utterly convinced of that. I think he'd give the top 6f horses a damn good run for their money

Frankel super horse, but I firmly believe Canford Cliffs is truely special
Report Somerset_Moan June 15, 2011 12:27 PM BST
My point is Frankel should be held up BEHIND CC... because he can outkick him at ANY point in the race...
Report brigust1 June 15, 2011 2:28 PM BST
They will have to change the jockey. Sad, but true.
He takes the horse from 2nd gear to flat out, that is not good for the horse. He needs to go through the gears one at a time slowly getting the horse into full stride. He will then remain balanced and understand what racing is all about. Before they burn him out or fry his brain.

I'm with you brigust.

Get a proper jockey on board and Frankel could make a race of it.  With current pilots, assuming OP can be bothered to make the weight receiving full WFA benefit Frankel is safely the outsider of three.

Very interesting if they could get a jockey who could hold him up ma bit.  Might prove to be the wonder horse everyone has been talking about.
