*** This is not a takeover bid ***
Thoughts as we approach the 1st Round bonanza of heats. In four to qualify heats value is almost non-existent. Even worse, whilst trainers can never be too complacent about their dogs getting an easy run, for many it is all about getting through, so punting can be risky. I’ll enjoy watching and weighing up the runners. However I believe there are dogs worth looking at, on their nights, as possible bets. Bubbly Turbo Heat 3 The Bubbly crew must have been gutted last year after scoring well with Bubbly Turbo in round 1 and going in again next time. He led Clares Rocket by a good margin in round 2 only for Madabout Eoghan to scupper their bets with his brutalisation tactics coming out of the 4th bend. This dog might be four but I am sure he can go in again in Heat 4. Roxholme Ray in six has to be the main threat. Good luck to them – they took their reverse so well. Black Zack Heat 9 Crossfield Will looks pretty decent but I think Zack has been brought along quietly for a punt at the first round again, and may be cherry ripe to buzz out and deliver another great run at Towcester. If he flies out as we know he can then Will will have to be spot on to beat him. Droopys Wilbury Heat 11 Don’t know why this one left Pat Buckley but I am sure Mark Wallis is delighted to have him with only four races run since he ran a 29.07 around here last year. His Achilles heel was his unreliable trapping but he can win a couple of heats on his way forward. He’s certainly with the right trainer. Three and a half and only 20 races – he isn’t over-raced. **** Duke Heat 14 Mark Wallis loves a tilt in the first round with a lesser light and I think this one will be well primed to win this. Hey Bound made the Irish Derby final but is anything but brilliant and can be beaten. Headford Octane Heat 16 27.26 around Henlow is trekking and this one could show up very well in this Derby. He has good opposition here and we will learn a lot. Bockos Alfie Heat 18 He has found a very winnable heat here with his terrific early pace. He has run the track well on previous visits. Farloe Hutch might catch him but I doubt it. Other thoughts:- Newinn Shadow Heat 8 Conns. must be so frustrated with this quality dog’s draw again. Last year he went out in the first round, in as hot a heat as you could get, behind Bubbly Bluebird, Bruisers Bullet and Dorotas Vic. They obviously rate the dog so they gave it a light campaign, hoping to try again (and along the way winning the East Anglian Derby ), only to draw Rising Brandy, Dorotas Wildcat and Dropzone this time. Admittedly it’s a four to qualify heat but against this opposition anything can go wrong and a 200/1 shot can easily scrape through ( and thus take the 4th spot ). Droopys Davy Heat 24 Only three qualify but Droopys Davy couldn’t have dawn an easier heat than Heat 24 – a vacant box inside and two no hopers in the field. Followers must be over the moon and hoping for the luck to continue so the dog can find his feet. Heat 8 on Thur and Heat 19 on Saturday both pit one of the young team against an older good one in Rising Brandy v Dorotas Wildfire and then Droopys Biker v Droopys Bonucci. If Brandy moves out wide at the bend again Wildcat will be through in the blink of an eye and Bonucci has been kept all year for this. It will be interesting to see how these races pan out. Twelve “Droopys” go to post and what a chance they have. Droopys Scholes 2004. Best bitch is always an interest in a Derby. Oi Oi Upenalty certainly looks the best at present but I also like Ballydoyle Maura and Bull Run Button – the latter stays the trip so well. However, for an interest at a price - 16/1 - I’m backing Poolie Shauna, small, each way. I think she is improving and the market has looked at her profile and saw “A1” and said not good enough. Well she’s moved on and is in the form of her life and could still be improving. Good luck to all, including the greyhounds, and let’s hope they all come off sound. |

Agree with most Honcho but Bubbly Turbo back-pedalled recently and best watched, imo
Not a fan of Droopys Wilbury, B*ylesports Duke and cant see Bockos Alfie getting home |
|

Same ones I’m defo against too
|

Droopys Wilbury was retired through injury and then put up for sale as a stud dog for 30k (I think it was).
Robert Brinkley still owns him anyway so obviously the injury maybe was not as bad as first feared. |

We have a clear favourite 16/1 Biker (on at 66/1) but still think Davy marginally better if taking to Towcester. 22/1 Bruisers and 25/1 bar, in the case of Verve that's with boost

Not been as involved with greyhounds since the shambles of Romford in the last year. Having done some studying for this over the lads week, I’ve backed:
Derby Outright: Droopys Biker - 3 points win @ 16/1 Droopys Verve - 2 points win @ 20/1 Borna Gin - 1.5 points win @ 33/1 Rio Coco - 1 point e/w @ 150/1 Droopys Dresden - 1 point e/w @ 200/1 Fastest sectional: Rising Brandy - 2 points win @ 25/1 Droopys Verve - 1.5 point win @ 25/1 Clash - 1 point win @ 33/1 15 point total outlay Good luck all |

The Derby kicks off tomorrow, the excitement and apprehension that this prestigious event delivers are already underway. Two heats tomorrow that get the blood pressure surging high are heat 5 and heat 7, unbelievable quality races at such an early stage, sad to say that not all will qualify, both could be grade 1 finals and both hold so much interest. Good luck all involved, time to shrug the shoulders and appreciate the naturally competitive nature of the great race!

20:17 Heat 5
1 - Forest West 2 - Slippy Cian 3 - Milltown magic 4 - Borna Account 5 - Jelly Flood 6 - Calico ranger 21:05 Heat 8 1 - Farloe Falcon 2 - Rising Brandy 3 - Cloncunny major 4 - Dorotas Vic 5 - Dropzone 6 - Newinn Shadow These are the two races that do it for me, worth the journey for those that can make it! Many will know I am a great admirer of Rising Brandy but this for sure is the biggest test yet and the thought of taking on the likes of Dropzone and Dorotas Vic and Farloe Falcon in round 1 must have had the owners and trainer sick in the stomach, with some doubt as to how Brandy runs the bends at Towcester, confidence will be low for all supporters. Brandy could be a better more experienced hound next year, but let us not shun the moment, what will be will be! |

Metro, think Wildcat goes from T4 in heat 8, Vic heat 23 Saturday?
Wildcat has the experience and think can pass Rising before the bend but wouldnt be surrpise if Rising comes again. Dropzone and Newinn not for me Forest West leads but needs to keep going. Had a tip for Slippy Cian but not so sure, Account will be staying on and Ranger needs to keep tabs Keen to see how Expert goes in heat 2, Ray heat 3 and Whoops heat 6 |

Antepost market has gone a bit mental if you ask me, I am by no means a massive Droopys Expert fan but he is beginning to possibly look value of those towards the top of the market. He has nearly doubled in price with some bookmakers from his price at say the turn of the year which is mad, he was of course under priced at that stage but now I'd argue they've got the other way.
When you look at his trial on April 25th the more you look at it the better it is. Expert was only 2 spots slower than Droopys Verve in that trial session and Droopys Verve had been around (in races) the 2 previous weeks clocking 28.87 in his 2nd race. It was Expert's first time around so it would be fair to expect him to find a fair bit of improvement on the clock. Of the 2 Angela Harrison runners I would prefer Droopys Verve but at pretty much double the price I'd be backing Droopys Expert before him. |
|
By:
Lotties Rocket cant be a 12/1 each-way chance, can it?
|
|
By:
Wouldn't say double the price 25/1 Verve with boost and Expert generally 33/1 (got 50/1 anyway) but yes, still got high hopes for Expert. The All England winner's best Newcastle form as good as it gets and trial round here very encouraging
|
|
By:
Droopys Verve is generally a 16s shot, Droopys Expert a 33s shot, that's double the price ya dopey nonce

25/1 Verve with who?
FFS you been going on for so long about Ladcrokes price boosts, if me nan was betting them this long she'd have been restricted or shut down by now |
|
By:
Yeah, not now. Got 33/1 Verve Sportsbook and topped up with 25/1 Laddies but that's gone. You can still get 20/1 Power, 188 and 888, so suppose not a million miles away Expert double the price. Not worth arguing over. No need to call me a dopey child fiddler!

Did Expert not have a tendon operation? If so it's not great news however well he has recovered.
|
|
By:
Did not know that, would be a big worry that he stands up to racing then with 6 runs in a month (to go all the way)
|
|
By:
Probably as good a preview as I've seen, which I take to be accurate.

He defo had a tendon out. Flared up juvenile sheffield. Was gona be touch n go if he made it. It didn,t help either with the terrible winter weather at jimmys.

Not really surprised to here about the tendon the way he ran behind Button and Wuheida in Juvenile
