Reilly didn't put him forward in the end DV, he said he didn't know if he would get a run so will put him away for Wimbledon next year, if he strengthens up he will be a major player

365 made a slight effort, unlike B*yles and Power, with betting on 850, 750, 550 and 600 races. Thank goodness for PF bookmakers!

Congratulations to SPK and the Irish greyhound community for organising and puting on, once again, such a fantastic celebration of all that is good in greyhound racing, in this one night, NIGHT OF STARS event. Great stuff, and top marks to all who have entered their dogs to take part - a great effort.
My fancies tonight, and why, as follows. Good luck to all the greyhounds, I hope they all come off sound and well! 9.42 SPK 575/526 Save The Don 2 9/4 Laughil Duke 4 13/8 Leave At Dawn 5 9/2 Duke is well established and Dawn looks to have just come to himself. They may fight it out middle track – I fancy Dawn to come good. However, Save The Don looks plotted, with an average starter in 1, and could dominate the race quickly by pinging and leading early. Has kept top company recently and has to be in tip-top order here. 10.12 SPK 550/503 Gaytime Hawk 1 9/2 Ballymac Matt 2 10/11 Farloe Rumble 3 10/1 Paradise Silva 4 8/1 Peregrine Falcon 5 6/1 Skywalker Rory 6 11/2 Probably the race of the night, month, year and century ( so far ) with four Derby finalists involved, including the winner, the St Leger winner and the Dundalk International winner, just for good measure . Gaytime Hawk had no chance against Matt in the Irish Derby final, when drawn in five, but is plotted tonight, as is Rory, recent St Leger winner in 6. Matt is well drawn too so a great race is in prospect. The others are all great dogs and have run brilliantly recently but are not ideally drawn as they are, and will find it very tough to figure in the outcome. For me Gaytime is so well drawn that he has to be chosen to lead and hold off Matt. It is a gamble however. A mouth-watering prospect indeed. 10.27 SPK 600/549 Ballydoyle Honey 6 8/11 This is all about Honey, in terms of sentiment, as there can be very few who would begrudge this great, great bitch her victory on this night of rejoicing amongst the Irish greyhound fraternity. I hope she wins and wins well! 8.12 SPK 525/480 Greenhill Pearl 1 9/4 Clares Queen 2 7/2 Droopys Aurora 3 4/1 6 pups with limited race time but Pearl looks well drawn and with two trials runs around here looks likely to run the track and thus a decent bet for me – no more than that – to win this. Queen and Aurora are both talented but I’m with Pearl as drawn. 8.42 SPK 850/777 Ballymac Bonnie 3 4/5 Nothing original about this pick but Bonnie is out ahead of these in terms of class and shouldn’t be beat. Probably the Dowling’s best chance of the night – well done them on sponsoring the 600! I presume Ribble Atom is here in advance of the long distance Harolds Cross race which is imminent. With no sighter and a poor draw she’ll struggle to make an impact tonight. 9.27 SPK 750/686 Vulturi 1 6/4 Priceless Lassie 2 2/1 Vulturi led, was passed by Lassie, then came again to get up late the last time they met. A thriller, and another in store here too. Since then Lassie has won nicely over this same trip and I fancy her to come on a bit, match Vulturi early, press on mid-race and hold out! There doesn’t appear to be anything else that might threaten to beat these but you never know. Full marks to connections of Diva for bringing her over to take part. No sighter though and tougher opposition here than she met at Wimbledon ( in my opinion ). |
