been lucky a few times at various times dr this yr.

thought it was a cert that blake would come and started to make him my big winner, laid everything else over and over and over which quickly built up the massive green on blake and what i have now on the 500/1+ outsiders, then noticed a few spikes on blake so instead of trading him, started to give up some of his green, he was still a massive winner and id have loved for him to come over in a last minute shock.

got lucky as it turns out with the numbers, i suspected a large entry from ireland and from here and thought the majority of prices, looking some 5 months ahead might be a little short if veryone turned up so laid everything over and over and over again.

then betfair wouldnt add anymore dogs so i took the% to 60%ish to complain i didnt have enough runners, but as i did, some bot must have jumped into my 80 runner market and literally bet everything.  The bot must have bet everydog thinking it was only these 80 dogs left???, which further built up some green. it was crazy, woke up one morning and all hell broke loose, bets were flying in, had every dog in the market bet for £5 to £50.

i had thought 45 irish would come over and got close to that and laid the majority of them, but i was way out on who the actual 40 dogs were,  lots fell by the way side, for various reasons despite saying they were coming but they were replaced by another group of youngsters this year who were not even listed and as irish / wonders predict almost every year i hadnt even heard of and so all the green built up has been kinda used to reduce my possible losses further, whilst having some nice winners.

hadnt heard any rumors of the jaytee dogs, the holland kennel was fairly quiet on who was going to actually come until recently so i kept lots of them short and managed to be watching when several of them performed really well and so didnt get picked off.

then we have the salad dodger effect and the prize money and almost everyone bar the bore's have got excited by derby dream

and while i thought we might get a big entry, i hadnt really spent much time thinking about the possible implication that it would throw up regarding the draw and number of qualifyer's until last month.

As a layer, 6 dog races, 2 qualify sounds great but only from a laying perspective.

Got 31 losers out of 263 now,  books looking good, almost every 1000/1 shot is +30k hence the 500/1+ other thread. 40quid for each dog would do my book the world of good.

Teds Last too much of a novice for me. Seems like he's been kept wrapped in cotton wool, 2 races and 8 trials.

This competition much too early and he will not possess the track craft at this stage of his career.

I take on board the playing him at the fancy prices but I wouldn't want to play at 50/1 as the value has gone and I'd want to see much more of him on track.

If he's still in after the first 2 rounds (48 left), I will have a better idea of his potential against what is left. The 50/1 will probably have long gone by then, but too many risks early doors with this qualifying carry on to play a novice imo. But very best of luck, you have obviously seen something in his trial and Sir Charlie is a genius in this competition.

Jack and Sky both lived the dream , salad dodger was the icing on the cake , 50K more in the pot , 270 odd entries , 2 qualifying from many 6 dog heats , multitude of non runners on the ante-post lists, all adds up to an overhyped fairy-tale competition that will fall apart in the week of death , the bookies laughing their bolleaux off , lanza bathing in champagne and we can all look forward to another thread of total bolleaux again next year !  Clearly not a great advert for the sport at all.

The competition has not even started, we now have 1,141 posts on this thread and quite a few contributors. Pretty clear there is plenty of interest in it, more than any other comp in the UK all year so it is obviously not the shocking advert for the sport you make out

I trust you won't be watching any of the Derby? I mean like if something makes me so mad I have to constantly come onto a forum to moan about it I would pay no attention to the thing.

I agree with Phil Donaldson "In many ways the Derby is in danger of becoming like the M25; a victim of its own success and popularity." It is going to have loads of 6 dog heats with two going through. The present format outlived its usefulness last year , so now because they took no notice of  the complaints and criticism last year they are confronted with an even bigger problem.

Oh PF, I've got my list okay thanks but after Blake, Braedan, Belles and You Never Listen, just Blaze and Trigger main two now. Once i got the decs, added Matt and Cafu, so either of those would be nice too. Heard Matt stumbled in his trial. Hope he takes to the traps and the track. Kneejerk would be a good win but surely no chance now. Would be happy enough with Yolo or the Hoff. The rest only really very small bets for small profit
