OPENING HEAT THRILLER IN SIS GOLD CUP
14/02/2013 The draw for the SIS Live Gold Cup at Shelbourne has produced a really intriguing opening heat with six strong fancies for outright honours pitched together. In all there are 36 entries with four to qualify from the opening round. In that opening heat two of the leading outright candidates will be in opposition in Night of Stars 550 winner Ardfert Thunder and Derby finalist Camas. But the heat is completed by four other top class trackers in the form of Money Talks, Tinas Nova, Killinan Cash and Stay Thirsty. It is quality all the way in the six heats of the 525 yards feature and it will end on a high note with Isabels Boy, Cambushmore and Refuge Of Sinner among the runners in the concluding heat. |

irish lads, is it surprising not to see Jet, Vic or Madison not turning out?
By:
No didn't expect them to be out in this. Madison will go for the Easter Cup, Jet to Shawfield and Wimbledon, perhaps Vic could have went for this but it's still very early in the season and he has probably mated a few bitches

Isabels Boy @ 12/1 e/w
Jimmy Boy @ 33/1 e/w i've played Really like Isabels Boy, has lovely early and stays further. I'd probably rather him over 550y with the longer run up but it wouldn't worry me, think this dog could have a big year. Jimmy Boy is nuts, has massive pace but is a right screw, still 33s with his gears is worth something e/w, he could do some clock if going about his business one night. |

cheers Prem. That Jimmy Boy litter certainly has pace, if not fortune

Ardfert Thunder heads the market at 6/1 on the strength of his impressive victory Night of Stars but this 525yds trip may catch him out.
Gone for 10/1 Priceless Sky. Strong fav but beaten a short head in St Leger, with in-form Derby winner Skywalker Puma behind. That form's good enough for me! Got a little interest Derby finalist 20/1 Coolykereen Imp and 7/1 saver smart Shelbourne performer Kereight King. Another Derby finalist Camas has claims and currently at peak but not sure he is too consistent. Does anyone know if it's being shown in betting shops, please? |
By:
wood, why might 525 catch Thunder out? All his races have been over 525 except N of Stars when he destroyed top top class all aged field over the 550yd. Admittedly this was his first all aged race, but what a debut. Didn't know much about him prior to that night. He certainly knows how to take a bump and win, and has v decent BS pace and stays. His trapping perhaps is not his strongest point, but he seems as game as Connect 4. I'm not sure 525/550 will make a difference..think will make into top star..and if does not win, good chance will keep on qualifying. O'Donnell sure got some beasts to go to war with!
By:
The trip is no problem for Ardfert Thunder
By:
Just think 550yds will be his optimum trip. Not quite getting 2.00sec splits 525yds. Whereas think Priceless Sky a flying machine and will suit 525yds better, the pick at nearly double the price. True, Ardfert Thunder a super prospect though
By:
Ardfert Thunder has only ever been around Shelbourne over 525y twice, both times in trials and has done 2.02 and 2.04 sectionals, they are fine sectionals. Anyway his sectionals would be of no worry as his main assest is his pace 2 to 3 and he gets this trip strong.
Priceless Sky has raced 3 times around Shelbourne over 525y doing 2.17, 2.07 and 2.14 sectionals. He has improved since he last raced around Shelbourne but if you're basing your worry over the trip for Ardfert Thunder on his sectionals in his two 525y trials you must be tearing your hair out with worry then re Priceless Sky. Anyway i'm happy to take both on, there are a good few dogs with brilliant early in here and they will lead up Ardfert Thunder in my opinion so i can see him having to do it from behind and Priceless Sky has to show his improved Thurles and Limerick form around Shelbourne. Interesting that there are no (m) seeds at all in the comp, not so long ago all (w) seeds where getting seeded (m) |
By:
Does anyone know if it's being shown in betting shops, please?
No idea, it was last year wasn't it? so you'd think they would again |
By:
Thanks, yes i seem to remember watching Piercestown Sand beat Milldean Panther, worst luck.
Any earlier rounds scheduled to be shown, i wonder? |
By:
good summary Professor Fantasy, we shall see.. it's great to have the big comps back. I do like Sky a lot, but the way Mafuma backrun him when he was clear as day out in front in Leger I found very worrying and throws up q's for me
By:
Mafuma is nuts, that's how he got to Sky in my opinion. He was closing on Ardfert Thunder up the run in on the Night Of Stars too
By:
Leger 550yds though, dont you think Sky could be a 525yds type like Rioga?
By:
Personally i'm not convinced by him still, i'd want a lot bigger than 10s if i was to consider backing him. He ran Limerick great and his form there was top class but so have many others and they where not as good around Shelbourne [last years Leger winner What A Tornado was the same]. He has his chance anyway.
By:
PF, those Shelbourne splits for Sky werent that long after he graduated from A6 races at Kilkenny. Think you'll find he's a different dog now
By:
Just phoned Ladbrokes. Apparently, not covering heats and when i asked about the final, he hung up!

By:
i just have too

By:
Went in again on Isabels Boy at 10s, really think a lot of this dog.
By:
Good luck PF. I seem to think Isabels gets further though and will he lack a yard over 525yds? Has 600yds winning form to his credit and i saw him finish 2nd to Abbeyville Tipp 575yds Night of Stars
By:
FFS he came 2nd in the Puppy Derby, did 28.49 taking it up into the 3rd and beating Paradise Madison around Shelbourne, he has done 18.63 in a sprint trial around Shelbourne, 3.34 and 3.40 sectionals over 550y. You're right he is absolutely paceless and 525y is too short
By:
i think you will find Prem that Paradise Madison dog is short of a few yards of pace around SPK..a sloth in many ways... and should not be used for comparison purposes
By:
It's okay PF. Only going off what i know about the dog. Like i said, good luck!
By:
Must be some tool anyway to be as fast as you say but still a 600yds winner. I'll watch out for him
By:
He won some graded cack in Dundalk over 600y early in his career [apoligies to anybody who may have had a runner in it], it does not mean he needs further. Nothing he has done since he went to Harolds Cross for the Puppy Derby has suggested 525y is too short for him, had he been drawn the other side of Ballyhill Sub he could easily have won the Puppy Derby. He wasn't right in his runs before Christmas which makes them look even better than face value.
By:
Not knocking the dog PF but trainers usually step their dogs up in trip when not quite going at top pace over shorter. Think that's how it works in this country anyway? If you say you like him, must be a good dog anyway, plus for you to go in again, you sound fairly confident of possible draw
By:
woodmanchester, would you ever stop posting on Irish dogs, you are absolutely clueless.
By:
I wonder will the books price up the heats in the morning? The comp does look really good this year
By:
I like the Irish dogs though. Seem to do better with them than the English and got to keep my eye in for trips to Shelbourne Park. Obviously, i'm not as much in the know as the likes of PF, but think youre out of order saying i'm clueless. People get it wrong sometimes

Too many guessers who can't prices races like that working for firms PF, they wouldn't know where to start and they just don't the appetite as they will just get picked off.
Looking forward to seeing Millie back at HQ tonight, hoping for 5/4 ish but Duke inside her could annoy her to the bend. Will you be getting involved on Jimmy Boy, he will be a price with the Tyrur dog and Hot Pursuit in the line up? |
By:
I think the bitch in 1 will be the main problem for Cabra Millie to the corner, if you watch the Clonmel final they where in they where virtually level at the bend and Millie led due to having the inside line, obviously the opposite way around tonight and that bitch loves the 1 box.
I don't fancy Gilmore at all tonight, he just does not come away in races and the dog that's inside him has had problems going left at the bend in the past, added to that he has Hot Pursuit on his outside who is in great form. If the price is right i'll play Jimmy Boy tonight, i think tonight could be the night to catch him coming back from a different track, good break and i'd expect him to destroy the 5 to the corner and turn in front. |
By:
Anything else jump out? have the girlfriend with me tonight so will be upstairs getting food. Might give Incitatus another chance in the 6 bender but i've done my stones on him so many times
By:
He is not without a chance
Thought Rockburst Delta is plotted up again in 1, i'd favour her over Locnamon Bridie this time, hopefully she is a decent price. I'd side with Ardfert Thunder over Camas as well The last 3 races look top v bottom to me |
By:
I'd made Coolykereen Imp, Isabels Boy and Gizmo Classic favs. I'm interested in the top in the last too though, think there is a big run in him and he impressed me the last night, 1 is a poxy box from the back traps though
By:
My mate is all over the one in the last too. Can't wait to see Thunder, his run on the Night of Stars left him thinking he could be the next star. Going to try a few lucky dips in the jackpot, haven't had the time to do the card at all
