SIS LIVE GOLD CUP APPROACHES

06/02/2013
The first real major of the season at Shelbourne will kick off on Saturday week. This year the SIS Live Gold Cup will have a winner’s prize of €20,000 and will be for 48 dogs.

Many of the big names have been trialled around the track in recent weeks but their entries have yet to be confirmed. But, in keeping with the modern Irish tradition, it will be down to the last moment before the entries really start arriving!

Three were three interesting sprint trials run last Saturday with Vinnie Morris’ Laurels finalist Ashfield Impact clocking 18.80, Paul Hennessy’s St Leger runner-up Priceless Sky 18.84 and Rachel Wheeler’s Camas Crash 19.01.

This weekend, of course, the Swords Prince A1 Stake is due to start and it will be a strong support for the final of the Joe Dunne Memorial Puppy Stake.

I put him in 13/8 to 100%, think it's the right price. The top 2 would be better off the other way around though i'd say, think there is a better bet in the race though at their prices.

Got enough interest antepost Priceless Sky (significantly), Kereight King and Coolykereen Imp (savers) without betting on the quarters tonight. Great racing in prospect though.

Earlier, fancy a few and done a little treble. Swift Marathon has a bad draw but price should reflect this and if making his best start could dictate from Rockburst Delta.

North Bound is likely to come on for the run but still think may have too many gears for Murrali Junior over this trip.

Been following Allen Master, who has done well. Sure he can overhaul Milan Castle in this graded decider

There was a fine turn-out at Shelbourne on Saturday night for a programme that featured the second round heats of the €20,000 SIS Live Gold Cup.

We witnessed a quite amazing performance as Aidan Denton’s Kereight King gave an exhibition of pace and power to win by a wide margin from Camas in a fantastic time of 27.82.

THIRSTY FOR ROBERT

The competition got off to a most exciting start as we had a three-way battle all the way in the first heat with victory going to the Robert Gleeson trained Stay Thirsty (Royal Impact/ Forest Swallow) which got up close home for a narrow victory over Money Talks.

From traps it was Money Talks and Ashfield Impact but the former showed the superior pace to lead into the bend where he swung wide and hampered Ashfield Impact. Into the back Money Talks led by a length from Ashfield Impact and Stay Thirsty and it was virtually three in a line at the third bend. Ashfield was closed off and Money Talks led turning for home. But Stay Thirsty now proved the stronger and he hit the front yards from the line to win by half a length from Money Talks in 28.62 with Ashfield Impact a length and a half third.

PURSUIT IN A THRILLER

The second heat produced a terrific battle between Hot Pursuit and Isabels Boy with the lead swapping on a few occasions and with Hot Pursuit prevailing in the final strides.

Hot Pursuit actually led from traps but Isabels Boy then produced a big burst of pace to lead on the bend and he had an advantage of two lengths heading into the back straight.

Hot Pursuit closed down the back with Uncle Eoin now in third and the gap was down to a length off the final bend. Isabels Boy was still in front but the Paul Hennessy trained Hot Pursuit (Big Daddy Cool/ Linger) powered home to snatch victory in the last strides over Isabels Boy in a brilliant 28.28. It was then four and a half lengths to Uncle Eoin in third.

KEREIGHT IN A BIG RUSH

The betting was close on this as Camas closed favourite ahead of Kereight King and you could have 6-1 bar the pair.

Once traps opened it was 6-1 bar Kereight King as Aidan Denton’s son of Droopys Maldini and Quam Celerrime took an absolute flier from the four box, immediately moved inwards and flew clear to the bend from Camas with Skywalker Kate in third.

There must have five lengths between them as Kereight King hugged the rail ahead of the wide running Camas. The latter always flies down the far side but he could make no impression on the leader and it was obvious that we were watching a special performance. Kereight King was still in full flight as he broke the ray five and a half lengths in front of Camas in a sensational 27.82 with Cabra Millie four and a half lengths third.

THUNDER STRIKES LATE

The final heat had just five runners in the absence of the injured Cambushmore but it still proved to be a thriller with the Frances O’Donnell trained Ardfert Thunder (Droopys Vieri/ Soviet Cheyenne) getting up in literally the final strides to pip Priceless Sky by a neck in 28.33.

Priceless Sky got away fast and on the inside and led up from Coolykereen Imp which actually maintained a straight run to the corner. Ardfert Thunder was third on the bend and he did his best work down the back to be a two length second into the third bend. Priceless Sky was still going strong up front and looked a likely winner turning for home with a length in hand. But Ardfert Thunder came home powerfully to win by a neck from Priceless and it was then three lengths to Lolos Joe in third.

ALLEN THE SWORDS MASTER

The big supporting race on the card was the final of the Swords Prince at Stud A1 525 and the big crowd witnessed a very fine performance from the Marie Gilbert trained Allen Master (Forest Master/ Forest Daisy) as he came from third place to win in 28.66.

It was a pretty level start with favourite Allen Master well away as was Milan Castle. However on the run up Ballymac Niall displayed the best pace to lead on the corner and he was closely pursued into the back by Milan Master. Ballymac moved wide down the far side, carrying Milan Castle wide with him.

A big gap appeared on the inside and the Peter Comerford and Tony Moore owned Allen Master gladly accepted the invitation. He moved up strongly to take it up on the inside on the third bend and then ran on strongly up the straight to win by two lengths from Milan Castle with Airport Captain staying on strongly to be a length and a half third.

FLYING HOMELESS

There was a sensational run in the Weston Hockey Club Open 550 from the Aidan McVeigh trained Homeless Boy (Crash/ Fort Hill Girl) as he powered home a most impressive winner in 29.36. He had shown big promise in recent outings and he certainly lived up to expectations this time.

Homeless Boy flew out of the inside box and was lengths clear of North Bound to the bend with Murralli Junior in third. Try as the pursuers might, they could make no impression whatever on Homeless Boy and he powered home a five length winner from North Bound in one of the best times ever recorded for the distance.

Larry Dunne is building a a really strong team at present and Slippery Ted (Top Honcho/ Kildallon Maid) looks another very talented recruit for the county Louth based handler. The powerful galloper produced a career best effort to win the second race, an A1 event, in very impressive fashion.

After dictating the pace to the turn, he was briefly headed by Holborn Cooper. But Slippery Ted powered his way back to the front before the third turn and duly drew right away for a facile seven length verdict over Brother Bob in a magnificent 28.39.

Last year’s Laurels finalist Tinas Nova (Big Daddy Cool/ Sunnyside Tina) showed that he is going to be a major force again this year as he produced a big run in the Kevin Fowler Open 525. He broke fast and just took the bend from Clonad Girl.

Tinas Nova increased his advantage out of the second bend and had the race sewn up by the third bend. Rockburst Delta moved through into second place off the fourth bend but Tinas Nova raced away to win by two lengths from Rockburst in 28.50 with Clonad Girl a promising half length third.

TED FOR DAVY

There was quite a start to proceedings with Pat McCarthy’s Woodmancote Ted producing a fine front running display on his way to a fabulous 28.57 victory in the final of an A3 final.

The Davy Reynolds trained son of Head Bound and Ringtown Blue assumed control early and was never under threat as he came home three lengths clear of Tasmanic Jaxx.

Eabhas Fantasy, owned by the Still Dreaming Syndicate, seemed to have a favourite’s chance in the fifth race and he duly obliged after producing a professional display of front running. The Seamus Graham trained son of Premier Fantasy and Kingsmill beauty claimed his fourteenth career success by two and a half lengths from the always second Fiancee Alsation in 28.58.

A great regular on the Dublin circuit, Denis Hurley provided the winner of the third race Rushwee Record (Eskimo Jack/ Selecta Venus) dominated from the early yards. Record had an ideal draw on the fence and once leading from the corner he was never in any danger of being reeled in. Pulling right away, Rushwee Record came home seven lengths to the good over Daring Hawk in 28.73.

Fast Fit Henry provided John Quinn and Niall Dunne with a winner in the fourth race. The son of Astronomic and Parkside Edel was always to the fore and he dug in up the home straight to repel the persistent challenge Thats My Girl by a half length in 28.83.

times are just for show anyway.

Look at what Homeless Boy did to North Bound, he destroyed him and North Bound won the Derby Plate last year, yes he is likely to come on for the run but it was a brilliant performance by Homeless Boy.

Kereight King was even more impressive, Camas a Produce Stakes and Derby finalist who has been in brilliant form could not get close to him, he blew him away.
Report woodmanchester February 24, 2013 12:18 PM GMT
First 1/4, Dont think much between the first three but doubt the outright winner there.
Second 1/4, Isabels Boy screwed from the traps but showed very good early pace. However, Hot Pursuit wasnt going away and eventually nailed the leader.
Third 1/4, Camas did nothing wrong, it was just Kereight King flew out, maintained a relentless gallop and was simply amazing. Think 27.82 is a new track record, wasnt it previously 27.92 by Paradise Madison, but i could be wrong here?
Fourth 1/4, Priceless Sky did his running and although a fine effort, think he will need to keep going better to hoist the trophy. Arfert Thunder got the run and pipped Sky close home

The Pick 6 Intertrack Jackpot took off on Saturday night when it rose rapidly and the €40,000 guaranteed figure was passed before settling at €42,234.

There was the possibility of a further carry-over going into the final leg at Shelbourne with Jimmy Boy the only one of the five runners not carrying a ticket.

But the race was battled out by the two favourites with Priceless Sky (40 units) caught in the final stride by Ardfert Thunder and his victory meant that 17 punters collected €1,863.20 each.

Thanks for the race summarys woodmanchester, but fairly sure we have all seen the replays. Priceless Sky will have to go better "to hoist the trophy". Think it's foolish to rule out a greyhound with disposable thumbs from winning this, he is obviously a bit special.
Report woodmanchester February 25, 2013 6:44 AM GMT
Yes Definate, it was just my "take" on it. I've backed Priceless Sky for this and the English Derby, so obviously want him to win. Realistically though, if qualifying, "would have to keep going better" to have a chance with Kereight, match Camas and needs the likes of Ardfert Thunder not to get a run? Never said there's no chance of that happening, though

Both spoilsports and Paddies make him the 7-2 favourite with Camas next best at 4-1. In all, six of the remaining twelve contenders are priced in single figures.

The best prices available with **** and Power are:

4 Camas

6 Ardfert Thunder, Isabels Boy

8 Priceless Sky

Spoilsports have priced up the Open 550y tomorrow Shocked

9/4 North Bound Shocked look bloody huge to me. Every time he has raced off a layoff at Shelbourne he has improved for the run and he didn't run all that bad last week.

He has his trap, he should lead the outside and that should be that.

Tyrur Gilmore 5/2, by god yes he is a fast dog but FFS he is utterly clueless at boxes, he will do a big run some night and is always backed but you'd do your nuts following him. Cabra Buck 3/1 looks the other danger from a great draw as he should lead up the inside but even at that with North Bound getting a solo out wide and clearing them i can't see Buck holding him.

I made North Bound considerably shorter.

Fatty, think question is will Kereight "take off" like last time? No holding him if he does, imo. Probable he wont though and hoping Priceless Sky can utilize the draw, just to qualify, i'd be happy. If he wins 3 lengths in the fastest time, all the better! Would be a very good outright win for me, but think the standard in this 2nd semi would have been great enough to grace the final itself.

Camas couldnt go with Kereight last Saturday but looks safely through on current evidence. Isabels Boy, a strong all-rounder, ought to join him. Wouldnt like to call third spot but may fall to outider Lolos Joe, type thats hard to keep out of the frame.

Looking at the earlier races, think the tea lady has been out in the office pricing up again. Swift Marathon better drawn, can do better but 5/1. Wouldnt mind a bit of that and they go 6/1 class act North Bound, who's sure to strip fitter. Can i have a ton on at that price, please. I did ask nicely! Happy

Eabhas Fantasy is capable of making all and should be hard to reel in.

Good luck and have a great night!
Report p_r_e_m_i_e_r__f_a_n_t_a_s_y March 2, 2013 11:29 AM GMT
Kereight King has a tough draw tonight, if he smashes out like last week he will be fine but he may struggle to go around in front. In round 1 he was drawn inside of Ashfield Impact and they where side by side at the corner and he went around as he had the inside line, they're the opposite way around tonight. He also has Hot Pursuit on his outside who has been flying from boxes in recent weeks and will be edging in as well. This will be some race to the corner.
If i was forced to play i'd go with Ashfield Impact @ 6s, he looks the best value to me. Priceless Sky has not being flying the lids in the competition [got a dream solo to the corner last week] and if Ashfield Impact can make a good start i think he can take the rails from him run up. Even then though if Kereight King followed him around he would more than likely beat him.

Well, after getting a parking ticket for £70, 3 minutes on a single yellow yesterday, i was certain Priceless Sky would be heading out but turn up, he got through by the narrowest of margins. Finals are often great levellers and not totally without hope now. Camas and Isabels seem to hold the advantage. Isabels, although ultra consistent at the start still couldnt hold Camas, albeit only narrowly. Ardfert Thunder, at 8/1 for the final, could spring a surprise in the hustle and bustle of the decider. At 6/4 Camas and 5/2 Isabels, the value could be against them?

I don't fancy Priceless Sky at all, can't see how he leads Isabels Boy up unless he totally misses it, even if that does happen i think Ardfert Thunder and Camas would back run him with a solo and possibly Cabra Millie and Stay Thirsty too.

Why will he not 'fly' out again? He has led around in his last 6 races at Shelbourne and every one of those races where top class. Anyway all be needs is a level break and he will tear them a new one to the corner, his early pace is different class. I don't think he runs the bends that well and could be feeling something but with a decent exit he leads.

I'd expect Camas to lead the outside too so he will take all the beating. I'm not sure Ardfert Thunder has enough to the corner to turn in a good enough position but he has brilliant pace 2 to 3 so if he could turn 2nd to Isabels Boy he has a major chance but that's a big if. Again Cabra Millie is well drawn but don't think she can lead Isabels Boy and not really sure if she can back run him. The other 2 need to smash and luck in my opinion.

You never know on the night PF. Isabels has been foot-perfect, it cant go on forever
Report p_r_e_m_i_e_r__f_a_n_t_a_s_y March 3, 2013 5:43 PM GMT
Yes Woody i lay 100% books to everybody, sure fire way to make money. You can have 10s if you want
Report woodmanchester March 3, 2013 5:45 PM GMT
Yeah PF, but i can promise you he's no 16/1 chance, 100% or not
Report p_r_e_m_i_e_r__f_a_n_t_a_s_y March 3, 2013 5:45 PM GMT
He has not been foot perfect at traps Woody, in round 1 he trapped behind Cambushmore and beat him to the corner, in round 2 he trapped behind Hot Pursuit and beat him to the corner, iut was only in the semi final that he trapped in front. It is his massive early that gets him around in front every night
Report p_r_e_m_i_e_r__f_a_n_t_a_s_y March 3, 2013 5:48 PM GMT
Thanks Woody i always respect your opinion on Irish racing
Report woodmanchester March 3, 2013 5:49 PM GMT
I hold my hands up when i said thought the longer trips he was tackling meant he lacked a touch of early but he's been flying and still not winning? Cambushmore and Hot Pursuit are very fast animals and the quality of this final, would prefer to take Isabels on at 2/1, 5/2? You had a big bet i believe PF, Betfair dont cover Shelbourne but I'd lay him now somewhere if you can. Well, i dont exepect respect just another angle to consider
Report p_r_e_m_i_e_r__f_a_n_t_a_s_y March 3, 2013 5:55 PM GMT
You're angle seems to be that Isables Boy the dog with the best early in the final and leads every night won't as you have a hunch he won't come away
Report woodmanchester March 3, 2013 5:56 PM GMT
Good luck PF, i'm still happy enough with 12/1 Sky. May the best dog on the night win
Report p_r_e_m_i_e_r__f_a_n_t_a_s_y March 3, 2013 6:01 PM GMT
Isabels and Sky finish in the first 4 i'm happy, would rather one of them win but Camas will take some beating
Report woodmanchester March 3, 2013 6:02 PM GMT
Yeah, didnt rate him as highly as you seemed to in the Derby final but doing really well now. Dont we know yet if SIS final shown in bookies yet?

Rathangan trainer Robert Gleeson was a very disappointed young man this morning as he had to withdraw his smashing tracker Stay Thirsty from Saturday’s €20,000 SIS Live Gold Cup final at Shelbourne Park.

Explained Robert: “He has had a recurrence of the wrist problem that caused him to be withdrawn from the quarter final of the Derby last year. The trouble arose after the second round when he was sore after the race but we treated him last week and he ran a great race in the semi.

“On Sunday he was twice as lame as he had been the previous week. We had him x-rayed and the problem is with a bone at the back of the wrist. It will take two to three months.

“It’s a terrible pity because he is such a genuine dog and we were just using this event to get him ready for the Easter Cup which would have really suited him with the 550 yards trip. We will give him every chance, he will be off for three months but hopefully we can have him back for a crack at the Derby”.

Sad they've had some bad luck with the dog.

Camas has the whole outside of the track to himself now Plain our best chance of getting him beaten was probably Stay Thirsty leading him up.

BlueSqr have priced up the 8.30 in spk tomorrow night and go 8/1 Kilbarry Rover, this is a mad price, and are going 11/10 camas crash a mad railer out in 6, who ever priced this up seems well off the mark.

Think it's the 9.30 but thanks Causeway, i'd probably never have known. Little treat with Cheltenham round the corner. Backed Rover saver Pursuit, if either leads, good chance, think that will be that. Reserve goes in T5, but 'phoned BSq and assured prices stand. They tell me there will only be a rule 4 if another non-runner.

Also fancy Swift Marathon, Lochnamon Bridie and Ashfield Impact. Could have been there but missus still recovering and leaving her for a few hours as it is for Sheffield tomorrow lunchtime.

Come on Priceless!

Never said there's no chance of that happening, though

well done
