2011 Sprinter of the Year and reigning champion Drumcove Lad 
will carry many hopes in an exciting renewal of the old Classic dating back to 1928. Only a Category Two competition nowadays but the cream of the country's sprinters are going for it.
Not too far behind, Drumcove is Fernhill Jess and Dynamo Joe, imo. I would also watch out for Skate On, Glanmire Phanter, Jumeirah Dubai and Big Local. Think Slick Sian and Lissom Jack may have a little bit to prove.
Will be interesting to see how the antepost market shapes up

Fernhill Jess comes into the event in good form & Lister's Glanmire Phanter trialled well.
Drumcove if staying fit won't be far off...but he's had his share of injuries this year. |

5 Drumcove 5 Jess 7 Dynamo 8 Phanter 10 Ice 16 Dubai 16 Reminder 16 Sian 20 Local 20 Lissom 25 Skate (over-priced, imo). Also, newcomer Drumna Ice could be interesting but dont know anything about it? The fact Lister's thrown it in at the deep end, though, says something |

Lister's dog has real raw pace...his 1st look trial was very nice and he seems to be trapping with more consistency which was his issue.
Just good to see the event being staged in the current climate. |

Having one of my "proper" bets on Drumcove. Already gone in for some 5/1 and keeping some powder dry in case anyone dares go bigger, before i go in again. I would have rated it about a 3/1 shot, country's top sprinter, imo.

5/1 in a 36 dog sprint comp is absolutely no value IMO, particularly about a dog who was thought unlikely to run again a few months ago.
Don't get me wrong, the Allsopp team have done a great job with him and the owners are proper dog men, but it's asking a lot to defend this title at the favourite's graveyard that is Belle Vue. Nonetheless it will be brilliant if he achieves it. |

Sound as a bell as far as i can see at Nottingham, in fact flying. Has course knowledge advantage over main threat Fernhill Jess. Reigning champion and holds Dynamo Joe on last year's form. With respect, honestly dont know what you want Miss Wales?

5/1 equates to being 1/2 to qualify in his heat, evens to qualify in his semi-final, and evens to win in the final.
Bear in mind that the semi-final will be first 2 only and this is a sprint, which makes it heavily dependent on the break, I couldn't possibly consider that to be value. As a matter of interest I seem to remember Chris Lund's Hurry Back being really short for this comp last year but finishing last in the final. Q. E. D. |

Whats QED please? Youre welcome to your opinion Miss Wales but he has won 8 of his last 11 races and i'd rather have 5/1 now, rather than evens in the final thanks. Make no mistake, he an exceptional sprinter, a flying machine. Incidentally, think Hurry Back would have won last year but for running into bad trouble on the crest of the bend, even though he missed the kick. Besides Jess is fav in some books

QED is an abbreviation of Quad Erat Demonstrandum, which literally translated from the Latin means That which was to be proved. Effectively I was saying that Hurry Back's defeat in the final proves my point that these things happen in dog racing, in sprints, at Belle Vue etc. Good luck with your bet in any event - I love to see good dogs come back from serious injury and I'll be giving him a shout if he gets to the final. |

Thanks Miss Wales, you learn something new every day. The odds you quote for qualification are pretty much the same for the top 5 in the betting, yet one of them seems sure to win it. Out of curiosity, what price would Drumcove need to be to be value, please? Even though, value is a rare comodity and only in the mind of the backer.
Didnt know Ian but checked and youre right, although dont know the reason why withdrawn from final. Thought they were just one-off sprints. Very impressive in the heats anyway, but yes, injury could come into it. Dont think he was 100% when winning the National Sprint against the best around, too. My theory being thats why he eased wide off the second before coming again in his races. Extremely fast dogs are more prone to injury. Fingers crossed |

There are too many doubts about the fitness of drumcove lad to be betting him ante-post at his price imo. No trial for fernhill jess
 and drumna ice/dynamo joe in possibly toughest heat together. Odds on coupled at 5/5/7/8, so not for me.16s is an insult for jumeirah dubai, could not be better drawn or be in a weaker heat, and anything under 18 dead at notts is going some. 10/1 is too big about glanmire phanter also the way that won at yarmouth and 15.06 trial not bad for first look at BV. |

Drumcove was withdrawn from Notts final due to a minor injury but would be back in a couple of weeks it said on C.Allsopp's blog at the time. Big ask to keep him sound for 3 races in quick timescale after length of time he's been out already.

I was thinking his last two runs, 17.62 and 17.55. Obviously fast going though, agreed. Sure he still holds the clock at Vue anyway. He may be the only dog ever to dipped beneath 15secs, but i stand to be corrected about that

Main thing for me, Drumcove, Skate through and saver Dubai. If you had backed Drumcoce, you would have been out of pocket. Although he dead-heated, he half lost also apparently!

Phanter wasnt well away and looked set to struggle but seemed to be distracted halfway up the run-in by a parader, checked, virtually stopped and beaten a distance. The judge showed the green light, so that was that but i'd have been tempted to appeal for a void race on the grounds of outside interfence if i was Lister. Hard to see it was that quick but the paraders seemed to be loitering and possible something was waved to catch Phanter's eye?

Yeah Ian, did seem to notice someone, but they were inside the wall, sure they shouldnt have been there? True, paraders are usually running through the middle towards pick up as hare running. Didnt look at all right to me. Missed the Fernhill Jess race but by all accounts the leader, Rockchase Jack, had it won before running very wide
