Vic perfectly drawn.

Skies can hopefully track around behind Bullet with Bugatti keeping middle?

That 2nd heat is incredible. Jet has a brilliant dray. Heaven knows what Big Mike will do and whether it will adversely affect Maestro.

Vic will have to be a short priced favourite with the draw the way it's worked out.

Fatty, what i'm trying to say is JFK goes well fresh as seen in the English Derby and maintained that level, didnt improve coz of any rustiness, but you think he will improve, he wont in my opinion. He's likely to be as good as he ever will be but just think he ran a bit flat last Saturday, that's why i'm saying can do better, not will improve. Sorry, does sound a bit confusing.

Anyway, fancy him but hoping for a bit better than 8/1, as with 16/1 Power of God.

Not sure why Sparta Maestro is more than double the price of Ballymac Vic, yet half Vic's price for the Derby? Answers to www.woody@confused.com Laugh
Report p_r_e_m_i_e_r__f_a_n_t_a_s_y July 12, 2012 8:14 AM BST
I'm not sure why you're confused Woody, look at it and ignore what prices they are for the Derby.

Ballymac Vic is drawn in the weakest of the 3 heats. Sparta Maestro is drawn in as tough a race as you're likely to see.

Ballymac Vic has a nice draw in 1 and will be a short priced favourite. Sparta Maestro is drawn outside of one of the fastest dogs to the bend to race around Shelbourne but also one of the worst bend runners too.

Ballymac Vic clocked the fastest time of the year last week. Sparta Maestro is coming back from a 3 week lay off after picking up a knock.

3/1 does not interest me but he was always going to be put in short once the draw came out the way it did as to most he is the most likeliest qualifier for next weeks final out of the 18 entries.

Champion Stakes

Rockchase Bullet @ 20/1 (small) - Like his draw a lot in his heat. He should easily have the leading of Tibetan Skies on his outside so i can see him turning 2nd to Razldazl Bugatti and from there i'd expect him to pick him up and qualify. I think he is being slightly underestimated here. Negatives are he has only had 2 sprint trials since the Betfair 600 final so i've no idea how forward he is and he'd need to be here but i'll risk it at the price, only small mind.

Champion Plate

Tyrur Sugar Ray @ 10/1 (had a decent pop at him) - He will take off one of these nights and i'd be hopeful it will be Saturday night as i feel off one of his decent break he should have the leading of those inside him. Obviously he is mad for the rails so the draw is crucial for him but i still feel he could be very good.

Crossfield Star @ 20/1 (small) - Did a pretty rubbish trial last week so hardly ideal but he is a strong runner who could qualify from a good draw. Only 2 (w)s in the comp so the only possible bad draw i could see would be getting drawn outside of Camas.

Found both comps diffucult to find bets in especially the Champion Stakes down to the draw.
Report Bassanio July 12, 2012 3:56 PM BST

Could well be right seen as he has been off since the 600 and only had the 2 sprints recently
Report woodmanchester July 12, 2012 7:18 PM BST
Ok PF, but who's to say your liked dog Maestro wont get another hard heat in the Derby? 13/2 for this stake or 10/1 for the Derby. It's obvious to me what's the best bet, not that i'm keen enough on the dog to back him anyway
Report p_r_e_m_i_e_r__f_a_n_t_a_s_y July 12, 2012 7:23 PM BST
I'd be surprised if he got a heat like that during the Derby and anyway in the first round either 3 or 4 will qualify and then 3 thereafter. I would have rathered they skipped this comp to be honest seen as he supposidly had a problem after his run 3 weeks ago.

The reason their is a discrepency in price between Vic and Maestro is the respective heats they are in, surely that is not diffucult to understand. You may not agree with it and if you think he is a big price well then back him, i can't have a decent bet on the comp as i think it's that hard and nothing really interests me.

can anyone explain the talking dogs section below, i am a little confused???

''The quality of entry in both events is quite awesome and all six races will test punters to the limit. Seeking out solid betting opportunities is quite a task but Sparta Maestro and Ballymac Vic are put forward as two that should oblige.
Neither face a simple task and Sparta Maestro, in particular has a semi mountain to climb. Droopys Jet is very well drawn in one and that can give him the edge over fellow inside runners Power Of God and Milldean Tally. But Razldazl Jayfkay and that superb veteran Tyrur Big Mike may be altogether tougher nuts to crack.''

I think Sparta Maestro has a good draw, will lead up Tibetan Skies no problem and stay mid to wide and should get a good run. Jayfkay bumped him from behind on the bend and then Big Mike was in his way down the back to the last bend forcing him wide. These things cost him some time in his semi final and i'd expect him to improve.

It's going to be some race between Vic and Bugatti for the early lead and Droopys Jet should lie handy from his great draw. It really is a grwat race and i think the draw has worked out the best way possible for a cleanly run race.

I thought Bugatti has a chance and is a decent bet at 6s with Cashmans (i made him 5s). He did a real quick run in the 1st round of last years Derby though and never got anywhere near the time again. Still though he has a decent chance if he can lead. I had it priced pretty much as the books then went up but am siding with Sparta Maestro as i like the draw and think he will turn handy enough and get a trouble free run.

Report p_r_e_m_i_e_r__f_a_n_t_a_s_y July 18, 2012 9:11 AM BST
I can't speak for the bookmakers but i can give you my reasons i make them those prices. As for the semi finals i made Tibetan Skies 5/2 and Razldazl Bugatti 4/1 to 100%. I actually fancied Rockchase Bullet to be bang there but the reason i had Tibetan Skies as favourite was the make up of the race. I couldn't have either Royal Patrol or Uncle Eoin and Tyrur Willyjoe is wide running from 4. Hence i thought the 3 inside runners would get a good run, i always thought Bugatti would lead but i saw his trial the previous week where he flew from 5 but blew up over 525y and i thought he'd be picked up. I thought both inside runners would get a clear and one of them would get to him.

To the final now and Bugatti has a leaders chance in my opinion, yes we all know if he doesn't lead that's it he doesn't win but he probably has the best early in the race when getting it right at traps. Tibetan Skies on the other hand is turning last in the final or 5th at best in my opinion. Added to that Sparta Maestro has a nice draw in the final and he will turn ahead of Tibetan Skies and i don't think he can back run him. I actually think Tibetan Skies best chance of victory is Razldazl Bugatti's best chance too, Tibetan needs Bugatti to lead as there are onl 3 possible leaders in my view and Droopys Jet and Ballymac Vic will be doing 29.40s if leading and they won't be getting picked up from something out the back.

To put in another way in the semi final i thought he had 'outs' in that he could pick them up. In the final i don't see these 'outs' really as 4 of the runners i see turning ahead of him are all capable of clocking 29.40s and the only way i could possible see him winning is if the race is messy and i don't think the make up is there for all them to get trouble.

I could well be way off the mark but i think the books have it pretty much right.
Report frank60 July 18, 2012 12:00 PM BST
MY thinking is Vic will get the lead ..at least by the 2nd bend this in turn can cause problems for the dogs behind which in turn will suit T.S...I cant see him picking up VIC but 2nd in a f/cast will pay out nice odds... JET could spoil the f/cast; i dont really fancy any of the others; come about 10.0c sat night i could be wipeing egg of my boatraceBlush  ..but i hope not.

It wouldn't really surprise me if he finished 2nd but i just find it very diffucult to see how he wins. At 10/1 if he finishes 2nd (on an e/w bet) you're getting paid 1.75 which doesn't interest me as i don't think the win part of the bet is a runner.

I still think Sparta Maestro is the best dog in the country, like his draw so have played him at 10/3. If Vic leads around and Sparta is out of it i'll look for Tibetan and hope he takes 2nd for you

What's others view on the Plate Final?? On Sugar Ray @ 10s but absolutely disguisted with the draw and although i'm a huge fan of his i can't consider him at the prices quoted seen as he's turning straight left. Had he not stumbled last week i think he would have done some clock but the draw is poxy.

Camas has clearly the best of the draw but i wasn't impressed again last week for the 3rd week running and don't want to be playing him at short prices.
Tyrur Blanche is like Sugar Ray in that she wants to be nearer rails and will be moving there run up too, she flew out in the semi and still it wasn't enough so need a flier and luck behind.
Lolos Joe ran a cracker in the semi but has the 2 moving rails outside him so will need to pop out and get away from them, i'm not sure he can get clear with the early around him.
Razldazl Apollo broke a lot better than before in the semi and went up well on the inside and if doing so again will be tough to beat and looks fairly priced at 7/2 but will he trap as well again?
The leaves up with Barefoot Duke who i thought was desperate unlucky in his heat. He came away well but didn't have the pace to hold the lead up and Ballybough Hawke got up his inside to do him on the bend. He then took another bump and ended up 4th into the back but flew down the back and stayed on well to only get beat 1L behind Sugar Ray. I think he may have a few of his own ideas but at 9/1 he looks the value in the final to me, if he can hold a decent pitch early he could take some holding persuming Sugar Ray cannot get loose from the draw.

Champion Plate: Tyrur Sugar Ray @ 10/1 (ante post), Barefoot Duke @ 9/1

Champion Stakes: Sparta Maestro @ 10/3

That's my lot anyway (lost small money on Rockchase Bullet and Crossfield Star ante post too)

Serious Champion Stakes final and surely only one of the early pacers win this - And my thinking is that Bugatti is the most likely leader. However, the draw suits Droopys Jet and he'll pick up Bugatti if he's anyway close to him heading down the back.
Brilliant final and Jet gets my vote!

Spoilsports have priced up the 2 consolation finals tomorrow if anyone is interested.

Anway i think Danmar Benny is too big @ 9/4 for the Plate Consolation, only barely failed to get around in front last week and if trapping the same i can't see what stops him going around this week.

In the Champion Stakes Consolation i think Milldean Tally is some price @ 5/1, great draw, ran a blinder last week, think once she holds Eabhas Fantasy run up she turns handy and wins.
Report FATTIEWHITEYSLOVEADRINK July 21, 2012 11:15 AM BST
think the same as you on DANMAR 9/4 auto lead than kick on

but I think JFK. missed it last week this is no where near as hard a race but if ****s up his trapping end of
but if he comes away he be hard to pull back
9/4

Double only !
will watch the final only think its a great race

Good race and i can't see any excuses for any of them. The draw won the race for Jet in my opinion as they where virtually level into the bend but once he went around he was never getting beaten. Vic ran well too and i thought Tibetan ran a blinder. Little disappointed with Sparta, got a bit of bother at the 3rd but never thought he was going to get close, not coming away didn't help.

Some run by Camas, i thought he ran cack the last 3 weeks and he went 3/1 on course i was told. He was the best drawn dog of the night but i didn't see that run coming.

I can't back a winner in Shelbourne recently Cry got my money back laying a few dogs but then layed Cuil Cougar in the last so lost on the night, thank god Danedream won to save my day.

The draw for the Derby is on Monday July 30th Fattie

Great performance by the Jet to lead, yes Vic got on him from line into first bend, but for Jet to lead to line first time is great effort for him and bodes well for those that have backed him AP..although I'd be nervous him out in T4 or 5

Droopys Jet is the fastest greyhound in Ireland and he deserved that big pot on Saturday night. He'll win this Irish Derby and is undoubtedly the dog to beat!

YA COM   great performence ..but i would.nt be licking his backside yet..there were some very good runs by other dogs on Sat that were not that far behind. his best price at the min is 10/1 with PP which is not great with the probable amount of runners being around 100+ come the draw . .. we all like to pick one out that slips under the rader and i think i saw such a dog on sat night.. but im sorry i cant share it untill i see if the dog is in the draw come the end of the month.MischiefHappy

He was very impressive and has as much chance as any in the Derby but put Vic inside Jet on Saturday night and the result would have been different in my opinion, he only led due to the draw. Brilliant performance though

He'd have picked up Ballymac Vic if they were drawn the other way around. I've never been so impressed with a dog since the College Causeway days. He just has everything and should be outright favourite with everybody! Cuil Cougar is another for the shortlist, will be a good Derby this year!
Report Chopper76 July 23, 2012 2:53 PM BST
Cannot have Cuil Cougar for stolen money, once he is lead he isn't the same dog, beaten by decent dogs lately, not great dogs. No value in the Derby market anymore, Puma is the only one at 25s with Fred

My concern about Vic is he wants to be middle to rails and that the one box could be his downfall around the 1/4 final stage

Always thought Droopys Jet benefits from red but people were saying differently in English Derby. Not always at his very best (although you can say that about all dogs) but shade disappointing not to win very good money for me at Wimbledon, so left him alone. Watch him win now!

Droopys obviously just did not handle the traps. hare etc over there and has resumed his brilliant domestic career upon returning.
