Bingo!! RT @BrandtSnedeker: Hey @USGA, it's impossible for DJ to cause the ball to move backwards!!!!!!! #commonsense |

Meanwhile Lee Westwood is heading nicely towards the wankest round of the day...

but that official wasn't in a position to make any ruling
he was just taking DJ's word for it obviously at some juncture after they looked at the video which they should have done at the time and reconsidered the situation |

tournaments over, DJ has pissed it

saying he didnt he has been excused.....
if he in fact did , then he needs to be penalised ( imo) film looks pretty dodgy either way to me commentators are wrong, officials are correct, they need to review it with dj then make a decision, then let him sign. |
|
By:
Interesting aussie. So in the very worst case here DJ gets penalised 1 shot?
|
|
By:
crespogol how has dj done anything wrong?
If I was DJ I would plain refuse to sign for a bogey and put a par down. He never ground the putter, how did he cause it too move, surely when approaching a putt your body has to be close to it. As I say, apparently grounding isn't required anymore, they asked DJ if he knew of any reason why the ball didn't move, he said he didn't know of any reason. The official then said, that they would be showing DJ the video when he finishes in order to give him the opportunity to make his decision in a more informed way, he said, DJ's input would be welcome, but they will make their own decision regardless. They're saying the ball moved, what made it move? The obvious answer is the DJ's proximity, who knows, static electricity, whatever, also, the panel said that the USGA wouldn't be making their decision based on the pictures we see, so presumably the another angle. If DJ doesn't give himself the penalty, they will impose it (presuming that's their decision (and it sounded like it was), however it will only be one shot, as he did call in the official at the time. |

By:
Out of sympathy, the rest of the field are handing it to him.
|
|
By:
It does have to be conclusive if the player does not call the penalty on himself.

cmon DJ win by 2!

Aussie I think your pocket is talking here.
A rules official was there with him. If a player does not all a penalty on himself your saying officials can guess what made the ball move after an official has already told him to play where it lies. |
|
By:
Furyk to win this in a play off. Come on!!!

Good finish for Day after the disaster of first rd.

If the ball moves but you did not touch the ball, no penalty.
DJ did not touch it so no penalty. Thats all there is to it. |
|
By:
What made the ball move? He should have shouted, these STUPID FAST **** GREENS YOU SET UP

how would the player know, could rested on a spike mark, could be a gust of wind, could be a minor earth quake 5000 miles away, if you don't know but are sure you did not do it its not a penalty.
Should have been resolved before he teed off on next hole. The Whistling Straits was unfortunate for DJ but was a penalty. Here it is not a penalty. Simple. |
