By:
The last 4 spots available went to Hatton -13, 2nd, Colsaerts T3, Manassero T3 and Aberdeen's Richie Ramsay -11, T6 at the AAM Scottish Open, won by CCM's Alex Noren on 14 under par.
Mark Roberts - remember this Liverpudlian - one of the most famous golfers to make the 18th green on a OPEN Sunday. |

Was down there today Lads,Pretty blustery most of day,few less windy spells.Rain also off and on all day but only showers,No sunny spells at all and pretty dull and dark.similar to forecast weather on thursday,friday...
Course a lot greener than i thought it would be to be honest, but trade off there is the rough looks pretty lush, tough in spots. Think if it blows between 15/20 most of day Thursday/Friday theyll find it pretty dam tough and a few of the big boys could be out of it fairly quick, big discrepancy in scores if weather changeable! |

This Open preview is really good so far.

Probably best to keep your powder dry and see how the course/weather is going to affect things. Troon isn't as forgiving as most Open venues so perhaps the bombers might not get it all their own way.
That said DJ is remarkably straight and has a slight fade. Day seems to be in contention every major. Rory is like a tampon, far too in and out to be relied upon and I think Speith still looks short of his best. As I have no patience the money is down. Backed DJ & Day to win (10/1 each). E/W Rose (35-1), Grace (30-1), Z Johnson (55/1), Piercy (100-1), Els (125-1). All top 6 1/4 odds with B356. Oh and £1 E/W D Duval @ 2,500-1 for old times sake ![]() |

Spieth had this look in his eye after he finished his last tournament
reminded me of after colonial last year, straight after that he won the US open Superman Spieth on the charge ![]() |

you need someone who can play well in the wind.
Interesting that day ranks highly despite his towering ball flight: http://futureoffantasy.com/strokes-gained-performance-in-the-wind |

Missed The Open preview. Will it be shown again lads?

Several times I imagine Joe! Think it's on again now tbh

I went for the obvious.
Marc Leishman 110.71 Kevin Kisner 281.74 J.B. Holmes 400.00 Smylie Kaufman 542.63 Brendan Steele 628.31 Robert Streb 682.93 Jordan Niebrugge 999.10 John Daly 1,000.00 I backed John Daly by mistake, the others really were picks. ![]() |

Marc Leishman is a good bet imo for first round leader. I got 95s.
Open form: T60, Dnp, Cut, Cut, 5th, 2nd. From Warrnambool, Victoria, Australia, a very windy coastal town, average wind speed 10 to 13 knots. In the last two Opens he had 64, 65, 66 so can go low. (and an opening 66 in the 2013 US Masters). On the PGA Tour in 2016 he has had 26 rounds in the 60s. On the PGA Tour in 2015 he has had rounds of 62 and 63. He is in the first group out on Thursday. If conditions affect early or late starters he is at an extreme end of the draw. |

I've backed Leishman a lot the last couple of months. Seems a bit below his best to me, but good luck.

So which pros normal ball flight is a fade?
Gone with experienced players hoping one willl have a good run . Each ways on Monty, Els, Furyk and Harrington but would like to try the fade angle. I tried googling golfers with a fade without a lot of success but found Todd Hamilton was one and he won at Troon |
|
By:
leishman is like a major pimp, always shows up never collects
|
|
By:
Martin Kaymer, the power fade remains his hallmark shot shape.
|
|
By:
I thought Leishman was going to have a really good year.
The family problems had been resolved and I thought he easily had the game to win a regular tour event and probably a major. However, having backed him several times this year I managed to stop before it was following over a cliff time. Still think he could win but haven't decided yet whether to include him in the my picks. Haven't decided on anyone yet and would like to know more about the course and likely weather before deciding. Whatever I will definitely make sure that DJ is not a loser for me. |
|
By:
ok thanks for the Kaymer fade info. Unfortunately I cant bring myself to back him, always seems overrated and price usually much lower than his actual record merits
|
|
By:
check weather update
NO advantage early/late starters both days |
|
By:
60 seems decent
|
|
By:
maybe a small cover bet on him then at 60's. He's just one of these guys that routinely is one of the fancied runners for every event he enters but does little or nothing. I backed him in Dubai this year and after that said never again...

tried to change swing to a draw after US OPEN wins
![]() more settled, playing better last few weeks |
|
By:
kaymer is great when he putts well, and not so when he does not
tough to guess when he has a good putting week though look at his stats last week 19th driv accuracy 14th driv dist 9th gir 63 putts per gir 64 total putts |
|
By:
Kaymer's tee to green game in great shape. Putting is a fickle thing, can be turned on or off out of nowhere. Proven links player in form who isn't scared of big trophies with 2 majors and a Players. 60s is fair.
Money coming hard for the ponce, been the best player overall of the last 4 Opens, 5th time a charm? |
|
By:
Pretty easy to read kaymer, he shows signs that he is close to his best then goes out and wins! Unfortunately the signs are good but not whats required for a big test just yet!
|
|
By:
Remember the way to look at the Open is to ask yourself, if my selection is 2 shots clear going into the back 9 on Sunday has he got what it takes to win? So many times I look at a player and see an amazing price and then ask myself that question and you know 95 times out of a 100 he wont win!
|
|
By:
Cant remember from the last Open at Troon but looking at the card the first 3 holes are 367 yards, 390 Yards & 377 yards. With the wind behind these look drive-able! Was anyone taking them on last time?
|
|
By:
if he,s an amazing price cause he ,ll lose 95 times out of a 100 nothing to do with whats between his ears going into the last 9,any player will probably trade odds on if 2 clear with 9 to play whether he ends up winning or not

Wonder if Sergio will follow his fellow choker Dusty Bin into the majors winners enclosure
The open his favourite event and has been playing better this year than in previous years going into it. Good in the wind too so often he has flattered to deceive but if ever he is going to win a major this is surely as good as chance as any only concern is he missed the cut only time he played at troon, but otherwise feels like an each way bet to nothing just at the back of my mind I wonder if he really wants to win, on the back nine on the sunday if he's in contention will he step up or shrivel away to nothing like he has done in previous years |
|

Not sure I agree that any player would trade at odds on 2 clear with 9 to play! Ive seen Faldo with a big lead and the most dominant player in the world who only got through with his mental strength, I remember moments when P Stewart and the American Cooke had short puts to get within a shot. Mcilroy playing the best golf in the world at the time when he won had moments when he looked like he would be caught but his mental strength got him home, so many times the character of the player is the deciding factor, Bjorn in that bunker! A different player would have taken a bogey and gone on to win! Van De Velde, his cavalier character strangely almost won it but in the end at the final hole cost him everything, two shots clear and a good drive down the final fairway still wasn't enough! The Open is too much to take for some, of couse some will quote the wins of Lawrie but he won because he was on a roll and trying to earn some big money with a high finish and had no thoughts of winning, never had the chance to bottle it! Same for Curtis, Todd Hamilton was unusual though he was in front and just kept finding although I remember Els had a 4 foot put at 18 to win and he decided to lag it so he could win in a play off!

|
By:
if cook birdied 17th par 5 would hav won open
|
|
By:
Never forget that putt was only 2-3 feet and he barely caught the hole! I had £500 on Faldo which was massive for me at the time! Remember the relief oh so well!

Thanks catch me if you can, just watched it! was there that year, for the Friday I think, great venue!

Silence bar the hum of distant generators, then ROAR!!!, the Open, the greatest event on the planet!

Todd Hamilton was OWGR #56 v Ernie Els #2 in the OWGR. The playoff was 1st, 2nd, 17th & 18th to determine the 2004 Open Champion.

Hole In One betting says - YES 8/13 - to follow in the footsteps of Ernie at the Postage Stamp last time (and one better than mise last time too).

bexley. Another fader of the ball is Alex Noren. Castle Stuart sets up lovely for a fader, as he proved last week. Micko won there on the way to winning The Open and i think he is still a very good price. Looked faultless last week against a decent field.
Scott's price collapsing indeed. Hard to overlook his Open record. |

Kuchar another fader of the ball. Can he extend the great record of the Americans at Troon?
