Seems to be the powers that be are trying to let the wind drop as much as possible before they go back out

I agree, Foz, it is the weakest of the open venues and as you say is a pitch and putt course with massive greens full of ridiculous slopes.

agree it is links golf and wind is its only defence really very poor and those snoods should be banned they look rediculous

kens ball is resting on the green he takes his hand away and the wind blows it 30 feet. It may have been on a slope but greens have slopes all over. Unfortunately the wind is so strong that it is unplayable.
You can argue the RA shouldn't have cut the greens yesterday or some this morning in view of the forecast but in its current state it isn't playable. I love watching the pros in tough conditions but it would have been a farce. |

You can get brutal rough at links courses that make the course challenging even when there is little wind.
St Andrews by comparison is like playing in a big field. |

And its horrible for the spectators, now i've only been at St Andrews to watch it live, but cant be worse on the other venues

Just got back and it has been totally unplayable until I left about hour and half ago.
The wind doesnt feel all that bad in areas where most of the public are but go anywhere near out towards the far end of course and wind is blowing you off your feet and would def be moving the ball. |

Yeah Foz took them off for 45 mins and then sent them back out in a tornado and watched half the field get blown away

Yes wind is its only defence! Those fairway pot bunkers are so benign I think the players actually aim from them off the tees.

Many say its their favourite although they same the same at Augusta.
Every five years is ridiculous when you consider the quality of courses on the rota. Every ten years would be acceptable but every five years is a joke. |

Yeah I agree thats what the issue is for me too. Should only feature as much as others and when you think places like Muirfield and Turnberry get it once a decade and St Andrews gets 3 it's ludicrous

John, you can drive 3 fairways away to get lines into greens at st andrews, most of these bunkers are obsolete.
you can either play short of them or in most case play miles away from them with the big stick. |

But it was playable 5 years ago, I was there and definitely nothing ridiculous. But it was tornado like for like 2hours

The lack of rough is a good point aberdeen. I think a mixture of the double fairways and the fact it is open to the public contribute but it seem very sparse except next to the tee beds.

I know Donald Trump is a nutter, but the course up here in Aberdeen will be on the rota within the next 30 years.

Perhaps aberdonia, if they could move teeboxes forward or back they could toughen it up maybe, but dont think they do that sort of thing here. Jason Day seemed to be able to find enough of those bunkers yesterday for one though.

Not sure the Open will be on rota while Trump is around. They are already thinking about taking Turnberry off after what he said about the Mexicans.

I'm never going to bet on a golf tournie again if there are anything less that perfect conditions forecast. I made bets yesterday on the assumption that there would be some play in the tougher conditions. There are only a couple of dozen golfers out there with half a round to play. Now it seems that they will get a completely undeserved advantage.

I remember a documentary I watched about the course he was building up there.Planning for lots of houses granted.Gave the locals plenty of grief,blocking views and all sorts.A c2ck of the highest order.

Ihave played golf in much worse conditions and the ball didn`t move....what evidence do we have that the ball is moving.
