Another week, another classy field.

I haven't made any plays yet, but one price that stands out is Mike Weir. He's been average for years but on the back of one good tournament he's shorter than the likes of Seung Yul Noh. Big overreaction I think.

Rory and Scotty winning in the same weekend and now their starting prices have dropped. I guess we won't be seeing over odds over 15 for a long while.

Time running out for Woodio in the US Open hence expect Rory and Scottio odds to falls further soon as Woodio won't be playing.

With Mickelson back the field this week looks strong. Will Rory continue his form or will jet lag affect him?

Get on Wikipedia and check out the winners list in this tournament. Like the course from where it got its name, duds don't win here generally speaking, stars do. Don't get too creative unless something really jumps out IMO, go with proven quality.

I am dying to back Will Mackenzie cos he's been so impressive this season. BUT... He seems to have lost his way recently. Would you be put off by 4 missed cuts???

Thanks Super Hans!Happy

Every week there seems to be players in contention that just don't fit the stats. Mike Weir being one of them.

Interesting to see how scott and mcilroy go both won last week without there best stuff. Wouldn't be surprised to see either go on a good run.

Are the outright markets full of traders?

Hoffman available at 180 all day. Take the money and now he's a bet all the way down to 150.

Seems to happen a lot.

@Superhans.... of course you are correct re traders invitation to work the markets. You really see the evidence coming to the last few holes on a Sunday. It is in essence a traders office called an exchange, with a hefty membership fee in commission. I do not know ideally if you would be better off buying shares in the company. Where is it listed.

Refreshed and raring to go after 2 weeks hols. Cracking field as you would expect for such a prestigious tournament. Good luck everyone HappyHappy

As the Nordea Masters is taking place on a new course we will focus our attention on The PGA Tour this week at the tournament that has become synonymous with the great Jack Nicklaus. Muirfield Village bears all the hallmarks of a classic Nicklaus design with relatively generous fairways followed by a supreme test of shotmaking, putting and scrambling.

2011 Memorial Champion Steve Stricker is playing a light schedule these days, picking and choosing the tournaments he most wants to play in and ultimately win. Three weeks ago at The Players Championship he clearly demonstrated that there was no rustiness in his game at all as he ranked 12th in Greens in Regulation and 3rd in Strokes Gained Putting on his way to a fine 13th place finish. He would no doubt love to add a second title here at Jack’s home course and the 50/1 generally available is good value.

2011 Masters Champion Charl Schwartzel has been quietly going about his business under the radar this season with 6 Top 25s in 9 PGA Tour appearances but this could be the week when all that changes. His game is in decent shape with the stats showing him 16th in Total Driving, 20th in Total Putting and 24th in Scrambling. His last four appearances at this venue have yielded finishes of 8th, 19th, 22nd and 27th. Paddy Power’s offer of 50/1 with 6 places each way is worth taking.

With course figures  of 13/38/22/5/mc/10/2 I am keen to have a piece of the 66/1 on offer with Skybet and **** for Ryan Moore. His performances at Wells Fargo and The Players Championship continued his fine run of form and the fact he ranks 8th for Greens in Regulation bodes well for  this ballstiker’s course.

For our final selection let’s take a chance on Canadian David Hearn who has shown excellent form all season with 3 Top 10s and 2 Top 25s already this year. The stats back this up as he ranks 9th in Total Putting, 30th in Driving Accuracy and 60th in Greens in Regulation. He has bagged Top 25 finishes in both his visits to Muirfield and the 125/1 with Paddy Power is too big to resist.

Happy punting Grin

Kick off those Lucchese boots, forget the Alamo and Waco, and leave all those Honky Tonks in Texas behind us for another year as we fly -
from (Ben) ‘Hogan’s Alley’ up to ‘Jack’s (Nicklaus) Place’ in Dublin – northwest of Columbus, Ohio that is !

The 39th edition of the prestigious invitational - The Memorial Tournament takes place at Muirfield Village Country Club.
http://www.thememorialtournament.com/
http://www.nicklaus.com/

The dream and work of ‘The Golden Bear’, Jack grew up just down the road from here.
Since the course opened in 1974, it has hosted the 1987 Ryder Cup, the 1992 US Amateur Championship, the 1998 Solheim Cup and the 2013 Presidents Cup.

Adam Scott, the World’s No. 1 player, heads a field of 120 players.
Fresh off a playoff victory for the ‘Texax Slam’, he is joined by six other players from the Top 10 in the OWGR:

Matt Kuchar (defending winner)
Bubba Watson (reigning Masters Champion)
Jason Day (No 7. Accenture Match Play Champion)
Justin Rose (2010 Memorial winner and reigning U.S. Open champion)
Jordan Spieth
Rory McIlroy.

The tournament also boasts 7 of the current Top 10 on the FedEx Cup and 7 of the current Top 10 on the PGA TOUR money list.
In addition to Kuchar and Rose, six past winners of the Memorial  are in the field:
K.J. Choi, Ernie Els, Jim Furyk, Carl Pettersson, Vijay Singh and Steve Stricker.

C’mon Aussie - 26-year-old Jason Day (was value at 45/1, 6 places SJ - paired with Scott & Rory), finished in a tie for 41st in the 2013 Memorial and has since competed in last year’s Presidents Cup, now lives in Columbus. He circled in this event when he elected to rest an injured left thumb over a start at The Players.

Day is 31st in FedEx Cup points, but has made only four starts this season.
He's played only once (T20, Masters) since winning the Accenture Match Play three months ago.

Jason is making his 6th Memorial Tournament start and since 2010 he has posted six top-10 finishes in major championships, with three runner-up outings at the Masters (2011) and U.S. Open (2011 and 2013). Call it as you see it will no doubt be looking forward to his wife, Ellie, running on the green on Sunday.

Roger Maltbie, a five-time winner on the PGA Tour and a key member of NBC Sports’ golf coverage team since 1992, won the first edition of this invitational in 1976 beating Hale Irwin in a four-hole playoff.

Maltbie is one of only two players (host Jack Nicklaus is the other) to have played in every Memorial since its inception in 1976. As the network’s lead course reporter, Maltbie usually draws the assignment of walking with the leaders. Can’t wait for his interview with Day on Sunday evening !

'Turn on, tune in, drop out'...more to follow...must watch Quintana win the Giro.

Also done Stallings 125/1ew and Hearn 80/1ew 1st Round Leader.

Was going to back them outright after Round 1 if they hadnt blown their chances.Their odds wont have changed much unless they are at the Top of the leaderboard in which case i am covered and if they are out of it saves me backing them for win purposes.Stallings was a regular of mine but after he finished down the field in the Humana where he was one of my best bets i sacked him. What happens ? He wins the following week.So if he finishes down the field this week unlike me keep the faith.
