From my Blog, gl with all bets GrinGrin

Close but no cigar for us last week with our four selections yielding one Top 10 and three Top 20s. Let’s hope we can go closer at the legendary Sawgrass, Florida where the PGA Tour returns for the so-called “Fifth Major.” This is as strong a field as you will find at any point of the season so your game will need to be in tip-top shape on arrival. Sawgrass has proved somewhat of a horses for courses layout over the years with many players either loving or loathing it.

I put up Zach Johnson last week for The Wells Fargo and he performed admirably to finish 14th. He ranked 4th in Driving Accuracy and 6th in Putting at Quail Hollow to continue his excellent form of this year. With 6 Top 25s in 9 appearances here he will fancy his chances of going one better than his runner-up spot on 2012. The 40/1 on offer looks more than fair.

One of the co runners-up finishers with Zach in 2012 was young Rickie Fowler who has been showing signs of returning to his best in recent starts. Top 10s at The Masters and The Shell Houston open show that this massive talent may be about to visit the winners enclosure very soon and the 60/1 offered by Stan James for 7 places looks like decent each way value.

Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell is enjoying another ultra consistent season including Top 10s in all the WGC events. He really is the complete player now and the stats back this up: 15th in Driving Accuracy, 30th in Greens in Regulation and 2nd in Strokes Gained-Putting. He will not need reminding of his Final Round collapse here in 2011 when he held the lead after 54 holes only for a disastrous 79 to dash all hopes of victory. There is no doubt he will feel he has unfinished business here and 80/1 looks very generous.

Another of last week’s selections looks well worth sticking with this week and that is Kevin Na. He is enjoying his best ever season on Tour and gave us a good run for our money last week with an 18th place finish. He has 2 Top 10s in his last four visits to Sawgrass and at 80/1 I’m happy to give him another go.

Happy punting Happy

Traded Spieth and Zach so far. Backed Matsuyama, Charl, Moore, Ogilvy and Stallings, will be looking to trade the lot. Orders up on others. Limited interest so far anyway, forum and lquidity. Remember last year with Tiger red hot this a bumper week Sad

Come back soon great man, regardless of what the haters say it makes a massive difference him being around.

The liquidity is better than any normal PGA events...£218,000 by Tuesday afternoon is nothing to sneeze at. I'm sure this will get better nearer the start.

Best bet for me this week William McGirt 250/1 ew. A better effort than finishing position last year suggests, having taken a 7 at 17 when sitting 2nd behind Castro during Round 2 and 5 on the same hole in the final round. The good performance came out of knowhere last year as he had previously missed the cut most weeks. Clearly in the form of his career this year and can be excused the missed cut last week.Should go better than the odds (especially on Betfair) suggest.

This week we move on to the famous Pete Dye designed Sawgrass course in Florida and to be honest after a few poor weeks betting wise I have toned things down a little. Traditionally experience is key around this weeks venue with winners having many rounds under their belts before finally becoming victorious and my main pick certainly fulfills that criteria whilst my outsider has something else going for him. I have topped these bets off with a round one leader who has been a standing dish around here on a Thursday in recent years.
Jimmy Walker was always going to be my number one selection this week and with a missed cut on a course that he hasn't performed well at before last week I have gone in bigger at the enhanced price. I think he has been pushed out too far - especially when you consider he has now won three times in his last fifteen events and produced a superb debut 8th at Augusta. His two wins at Pebble Beach and Waialae came on small greens which he will certainly encounter at Sawgrass this week. He has played here four times with a best of 15th last year but only Stroud and Stenson of those playing this week have a better long term scoring average around here and at 71.21 he even pips Tiger Woods in that department. Just for a bit of added interest he can also boast a win in the Pete Dye Classic on the Web.com tour. Now he has figured out how to cross the finishing line on the main tour - when he is priced up @ 66/1 6 places we have to take notice 0.8 ew.
I will give Chesson Hadley another chance despite last weeks missed cut mainly because despite having not played this course in competition before he did win the Web.com Tour Championship on the Dye Valley course in the Fall. He seems to like Florida - his 24th at the Honda Classic and 14th at Innisbrook read far better when you look past the poor opening rounds and his win in Puerto Rico came on a course ideal for Florida lovers! Apart from last week he has actually shot some brilliant scores - Harbour Town he was 4th at the cut, Texas 4th after the opening round, Arnold Palmer 5th into the final round and in those two Florida events I mentioned above he went from 115th to 14th at the Valspar and 121st to 14th at the Honda. I know he doesn't have the requisite starts under his belt but in familiar surroundings if he gets a fast start he could surprise 0.2 ew 175/1 6 places
I don't think I am wrong in saying that Ben Crane seems a shadow of the player he once was but every year he comes alive at Sawgrass and I think he is worth a bet in the opening round where over the last seven years he has managed to finish 6/9/1/3/10/4/17 once all the scorecards are signed on Thursday 0.2 ew 125/1 FRL

Is A. Scottio a honest man?

Read this http://www.pgatour.com/tourreport/2014/05/07/four-players-could-unseat-woods-as-no--1.html

"In an odd mathematical twist, Scott actually could have taken over No. 1 in the ranking, which is based on a sliding scale of points accrued and eliminated over a two-year period, had he stayed home and not entered THE PLAYERS. Not that the talented Aussie would have considered doing that, of course."

Had to be complete crackers to back a few of these but some have more realistic chances. Can see Holmes going well again. Though it may seem ridiculous when he says God is helping him, the fact that he believes this means he's going to be full of confidence again and has had 4 top 20's in the last 6 years here.

Luke Guthrie + 11,543
Brian Davis + 6,740
Jeff Maggert + 4,702
Chris Kirk 1,601
Thomas Bjorn + 1,561

Kevin Na + 1,349
JB Holmes + 1,301
Charl Schwartzel 1,101
Luke Donald + 845
Henrik Stenson + 816

It seems like Poulter spent all day in the cot today due to aching all over, bad throat and high temperature.

Interesting. Could easily be a late scratching then.

@ sheppy - Ishikawa is at the bottom because he's not actually playing. He's first alternate so will only play if someone (Poults perhaps) withdraws before tee-off.
