Staggered just how bad the coverage is today. Got no sense of the moment, sauntering along oblivious to certain players who are right in the mix

There seems to be a lot of complaints about the coverage of Mickelson and having backed him for top 5, I kept looking at the odds and thinking he must have had a disaster that had not been shown by the Beeb as he was still 2.5 to finish in the top 5 when on level par quite late in his round. I guess that in running players were never sure what he was doing until he took the lead.

When they showed Mickelson putting for eagle on the 17th one of the commentators remarked 'Must have been two huge blows to get it on the green'

Think about it, when never seen the bloke out was favorite by them hitting his tee shot and second shot on the 17th hole ffs

A farcical situation BlushBlush

They showed both of his approach shots to 17 tbf, it was the on course guy Phil Parkin in the Westwood group who said it must have been two mighty blows.

Even more impressive given he hit two three woods but that wasn't commented on.

Piss poor coverage for me, the lack of knowledge from the commentators (generally) was woeful and I'll never understand how a producer can't squeeze in everyone who is within half a dozen shots of the lead's shots coming down the back nine. I think we all accept that the coverage is not as live, but when you're seeing Stenson and Johnson's shots into 16 and then next thing you know they're showing Johnson's missed putt for par and just saying, Stenson two putted for par I don't think that's really good enough.

Sadly the BBC have drafted in far too many non golfers in an attempt to embellish the coverage and their lack of knowledge for a sport we all love, only serves to annoy. Parkin is a dead loss and his inability to assess the degree of difficulty of shots or to appear incredibly over excited at the mere presence of Tiger Woods, was cringe worthy.

The Direction of the coverage was remarkably poor and, far too little coverage of players who were on the periphery of things at the weekend. Far more balance required in the coverage and the delay in showing some of the key action is amplified if you are watching the odds shift on Betfair.

The truth is that the BBC have failed to move on in terms of their sports coverage, with golf in particular trapped in the 1970`s with all the snobbery and stuffiness that damages the image of the game.

Watch out, next year you might end up with the Dream Team - Aliss and Critchley !

I remember the 1992 Open, won by Faldo.
Back then they showed golf continuously, and even players not in contention got air time.

Now it is studio chat, or celebrity presenters (who play a little golf), with golf coverage dominated by superstars or British players.
The BBC failed on Sunday when they missed most of the Mickelson play, and insulted us by showing the occasional replay of players (e.g. Matsuyama birdie on hole 13 ten minutes late).

I've been told that if I want to watch the golf its on the red button.  I do not have that service.
To watch the golf I mostly watch Setanta, although they have plenty of ad breaks.
The BBC are celebrity presenter driven, PC driven (have they got one white, one black, one Asian, one woman, one old).

On the final day BBC1 had a massive studio discussion for about an hour at the start of play.
Obviously they were waiting for Westwood to start.  Nobody else mattered.
I don't remember seeing much of Dufner, Bradley, Lowry, De La Riva, English, Gallacher, Sterne, Cink, Blixt, Fisher, Day, Van Pelt.

Larkin was a decent amateur golfer and US college player. HE is **** at commentating though.

I missed Walkers Linekar, don't know about you? Perhaps Steve Macmanananananaman can do next year?

We could have Neville Neville and Andy Gray with that computer screen thingy where they move players and golf balls around the thing, and where they should have hit it and that. Or not.

All they have to do is show the shots that matter, it cant be rocket science, leave out the pre-amble, the walking round putts, camera 11, Tiger putts, camera 13 Phil with 2nd into 17, camera 4 hold it for 20 secs whilst 1 shows Scott fkng up again youcuntahem, and go camera 4.
