All those great links in Ireland and it's at a parkland course designed by a Scot
![]() |
By:
agree, & a few from the PGA tour may have came over if it had been played on links with a mind to Scotland next month.
By:
Forecast very good for the weekend with temps hitting 25-26, might head down Saturday if thats the case.
By:
25-26
....bring me back to the 80s and sun drenched Portmarnock...thems the days. |
By:
Mcilroy is 10/1 with powers, in their shops.
By:
Thomas bjorn at 16/1 Jesus that's scandalous
By:
yeah really wanted to back him couldnt at those odds |
By:
TMM put up Jaco Van Zyl as an outsider for the US open and he played well enough there to tempt me with a little ew at 125/1 with Sadbrokes. Missed the 28's with Jokes this morning for Shane Lowry. Even that was a bit skinny, so will leave alone.
By:
Canizares my first bet. 125/1 seems value. Struggling to find anyone else Ai like the look of at the respective prices. Lowry, Bjorn, Harrington all crazy short IMO. McDowell looks Ok value in comparison.
By:
The prices at the top of the market all look very short.
I've gone with Ilonen at 40/1 who's probably got the best recent form of anyone and Rock at 125/1 who was 5th here in 2006 following a run of poor performances. |
By:
Very rare I go heavily for a favourite but happy with 9-1 for Rory the course and weather should suit him.
By:
I've been waiting for this tournament to come round.
I really like Aguilar on a tough course. Really hoping he will do well here. 100/1 is a good price. |
By:
I played here at the end of last month - unless the rough has miracurously grown, the course is defenceless.
Unsurprisingly, literally every hole is a left to right faders paradise. Look for a birdie merchant but avoid anyone whose natural shot is a draw. good luck! |
By:
I think you will find the rough has grown, Ireland has never had any trouble growing grass, the course will be in great shape. Good weather forecast should make it look great. Like others I believe it
By:
Should be played on a links course.
By:
according to the stats of the last event here, appreciate a way ago, accuracy off the tee was 9% of the game. In other words, it doesnt matter!
By:
Also need to be long hitters, the leaderboard last time was full of bombers
By:
So you need to drive long in any direction. That's Alvaro then innit ?
By:
Crossed my mind but even for his standards he is unpredictable!
By:
I actually do fancy Alvaro to do well here. On @ 125/1 E/W
Also wouldn't be surprised to see Robert Rock feature. Did well the last time it was held here, and had a great final round last week. On @ 125/1 E/W Ross Fisher appeals, but again his price stinks. I laid him last week, but this week I'll leave him alone. I'll chuck a few quid on Campillo and Matty Baldwin before the off. |
By:
Mikko Ilonen at 40s
By:
eric - just over 3 weeks ago there was literally no rough.
You could be miles off the fairway ( as we often were) and have a great lie. I'm sure the rough will have grown since then but I'd find it hard to believe that it could grow enough to cause a problem to the pros. We had 20 golfers in our group, most of them shot better than their handicap. May be worth waiting until coverage starts to see how the rough is looking. If it's non-existant, pick a bomber who can putt If it's grown a lot, pick a fader with decent GIR stats |
By:
It does seems that bigh does have more information than the rest of us. I will bear it in mind.
By:
We have had very little rain in the north of the country and been pretty warm as well, so i'm sure Kildare being a lot further south will have had probably a better Summer, I'd say it will be wispy and not thick, cheers bigH. now just 120 to pick from!!

Just going by my golf course, in the last month it has gone from no rough, to heavy rough.
By:
Also think Rory out early on Thursday will post a good score, very little wind, good greens on a park land course which suits long hitters? If you are going to get on Rory, get on him now. He is bound to shorten before tee off. It seems an ideal opportunity to get his season going and his odds seem very good to me?
By:
shane lowry in this one for me
By:
Like Rory myself Eric, but still niggling me about these new clubs but has very little to beat if even 90%, very tempted.
By:
The only Irish fellahs id be tempted to back this week are Mc's.....
Paul McGinley Damien McGrane Sticking with form again & taking at interest in the following pre-tourney at prices on offer Ross Fisher Joost Luiten Peter Uihlein RJ derksen Darren Fichardt & if he makes the field Van Der Walt (T) Would have done Tommy but not at them prices, maybe i/r, others i like the look of incl Parry/Waring/Baldwin & those that are maybe a week to early are F.Molinari/Illonen/Pa Lawrie & will likely regret not tagging any of them. |
By:
My back garden has grown about 24 inches in 3 weeks. Im only across the sea so i reckon they have the rough sorted.
Now thats settled give me some players who will win lads |
By:
Have a good look around for best price on Shane Lowry ew. Not sure yet, but I can see one of the firms giving an extra place as the market will be very competitive. Also, if Shane is reasonably placed after 1st round , have a few euro to finish top 10. Have a look at his 2/3 ball prices after every round. He may throw in a stinker but will probably win at least 2 1/2 matches.
By:
been told the course is open to the elements, if the wind blows it will be tough.
the rough is about par for a tour event and the bunkers are very deep, the course is playing fast and the greens are hilly and elevated, a good chipper and putter needed. i've heard Monty designed the course, maybe for himself ![]() |
By:
Paddy going 10/1 Rory on text bets up to £50.
By:
gone for
Ross Fisher 28 win Mikko Ilonen 42 win Damien McGrane 100/1 ew richard sterne 50/1 win might add 1 more |
By:
field looks very weak in depth.
Though Rory is far from his best 8/1 e/w (6 places) seems fair. And Mcdowell at 16/1 e/w (6 places)is also decent. Both 2 are a touch of class above the rest of the field here. |
By:
Pod saying today its a bombers paradise,no rough worth talking about.
Tom Lewis for me,seems to be hitting form.9/2 top 20 seems fair. |
By:
P Harrington ew won't mind bad weather.
By:
Can't see the weather being a major factor
Played this course (of shorter tees of course) a few times and its not too difficult Driving accuracy is the key for me there plenty if fairway bunkers in play or if your very long like ulhein you could fly them Rough isn't too penal unless your 40/50 yards out. Par 3s quite long the 17 probably the easiest there will be a grandstand all around it so should be a good atmosphere at it. Ross fisher for me although I would have loved a bigger price As everyone knows Lowry lives in one of the houses on the course and practices here all the time( this course has the best practice facilities in Ireland ) So hard to leave him out although his price is also low. |
By:
done nowt this season really,so going for a safety,safety bet,dutched mcilroy,mcdowell,harrington for a top 5 finish about 55% profit.
