Michael Hoey is a player I wouldn't normally back at such a short price but the conditions are ripe for his fourth win in just over a year. Basically Hoey is at his best on this sort of short windy track close to the sea - just look at his wins - the Alfred Dunhill Links, Madeira, Oitavos Dunes and El Jadida. This years win was a little different but still near the coast and was windy and he has also been 2nd at East London in South Africa. I guess really it shouldn't come as a great surprise as a winner of the British Amateur at Prestwick and what interests me this week is that Royal Portrush is very close to home and he has won the North of Ireland Amateur round these links - hence the decent bet 0.8 ew 55/1 (6 places)
Gareth Maybin hasn't quite fulfilled the potential he showed early in his career but like Hoey he has won the same event around Royal Portrush. He has been rather out of form this year apart from a 7th at the Spanish Open but I think a return to home soil may well bring about a change of fortune 0.2 ew 150/1 (6 places) 125/1 OK Last position goes to Finn Mikko Ilonen who is also a fine links golfer having won the British Amateur around Hoylake the year before Hoey, he can also lay claim to a top ten at the Open at Lytham. He has two wins on the European tour back in 2007 but has been dogged by injury in recent years. He bombed out of Open qualifying today but a couple of starts ago he was 3rd in the Nordea Masters so can still turn it on. Whilst he has no Portrush form to speak of it is interesting his first amateur win outside Scandinavia came in the West of Ireland amateur in 1999 and he is definitely worth a small investment 0.2 ew 150/1 (6 places) |

Brett Rumford win & top 10...he has won the Irish Open (2004) & has several top 10/20 finishes....has always gone well on links courses & when there is plenty of wind/rain.
Books are best 150/1 which is fair enough but managed to get a bit of 260 on here & the rest @ 250....15 on here for top 10 so hoping to get a run. Plenty with chances but you can't back 'em all....unless you are called Eric ![]() |

Keegan Bradley is a big price at 46's, fair enough he will not have encountered a course like this before, any average week he would be 16-20's in a field like this.

just had a look at the weather forecast
bbc got possible thunder lightning thurs/fri and just rain at the weekend dreadful news ![]() |

It's a shame this event is the same week as the AT&T, would have been great to see Rory return to Congressional and probably no better place to go to find some form than the scene of his greatest triumph... Except your home course in your national Open that is.

Strange that the 4th and 18th are longer holes than 10 and 11 yet 10 and 11 are par 5's.Must be two of the shortest par 5's on tour.
|
|
By:
Make that 9 and 10 as the short par 5's.
|
|
By:
very low scores i reckon

I fancy George Murray could possibly go well in this....was a good 3rd in the dunhill links lsast year which as most of you know is played over 3 top links course.....certainly worth a few quid at 700ish....
|
|
By:
Matthew Baldwin @230 & Fredrik Andersson Hed @470 for me...been impressed with Baldwin who did ok in US Open, and hoping the wind will get up a bit more than predicted for Hed who's useful around the links...gl all

Padraig looked happy today during his paractice round with Keegan and John G Kelly ( a mate of Padraigs apparently , cant say I am familiar with him , but he strikes the ball well ). The 3 of them were enjoying the round , all playing reasonably well ( but with no pressure admittedly ) , and the decent crowd following them were enjoying it .
Delighted to see Bradley here , think he will enjoy the experience , and also think he will be back for further this side of the pond . They would have few courses like this in USA , Keegan seemed to be leaving a few shots short of the green , probably due to ball flight here and USA being different distance wise . Just ratch it up 10% Keegan . |

should get a run for your money on paul lawrie, not sure about his course stats or whether he even likes the course

I've chucked a few quid on Baldwin for The Open @ 1000. Too big a price to ignore.

Beautiful day here today but unfortunately bit of a grim forecast for tommorrow, it is a bit muggy and I hope the thunder & lighting strikes this evening rather than tommorrow morning.

Deplasterer, wouldnt put yr money on Pod mate, followed him and Keegan Bradley yesterday in a prcatice round...Embarassing, couldnt hit a fairway all day, everything left. One hole he hit 4 out 30 yards left one after each other, ironic cheers which didnt help mind....funny thing I was gonna have a few quid on him too, but not now...Keegan out drove him by 20 yards when he finally found a fairway...
