IMO -Rory is the most exciting to watch player since Seve. Because he goes for the impossible, like Seve, he is likely to come unstuck at times but when he is flowing it's pure magic. Tiger Woods is the only player likely to challenge the record of Jack Nicklaus but I'd rather watch a Seve or a Rory any day.

How many shots in front did he finish up last night ?
McIlroy played average last night and he's still there amongst this field. That last hole birdie was the best way to finish, mentally. He may not have even to be at his best to come home in front tonight, or early evening as it looks like. It's hard trying to be that confident about any of the others to be honest.
Has anybody else noticed how miserable and sullen Rory appears to have become this past 12months or so?
When he first came on tour he was this bright eyed kid with a swashbuckling attitude and whilst the game his still there his whole demeanour seems to have changed.I dont know if he's enjoying it much at the moment,win or lose.A little bit similar to what Garcia went through although he was destroyed by his putting.

Rorys fault has been left for weeks. All his misses this week were left. His swing let him down on 18 with a three wood he should have been making sure he was in play.
In fairness to McIlroy i thought he stuck at it well this week. He did well to go so close considering he was far from his best.

SuperFrothy is right, anyone thinking that was not a choke either did not see it (which is the case with some forumites it would seem given the time of posting) or is biased in the extreme. It warrants mentioning given his standing in the game. Some can't cope with that, I guess acknowledging he has an issue with pressure is too much for some, they would rather take pot shots (see 20:57 post).

Two previous rounds when the pressure was nowhere near as high, he blasts the same club 300 yards down the middle and makes birdie.

I would be on the side McIroy did not choke yesterday. It was just one of many bad shots he has been hitting for weeks. He just happened to hit this wayward shot at the 72nd hole with water around and when he was tied for the lead.
When you see golfers choke it is generally because they are affraid to win wheh they get into position but i dont think McIlroy has any such fear. He loses from so many good positions because he seems to play the wrong shot at the wrong time.
Dont think he will ever be a prolific winner as the greats of the game though.

The argument that he has 'been hitting bad shots for weeks' is ridiculous. The way some people on here are talking you would think he was a Sunday morning hacker who couldn't hit the ball straight to save his life. Yesterday's 3 wood was a good 60 yards off line!! He hasn't been driving the ball as well as he can lately but he hasn't been hitting snap hooks every tee shot! Unbelievable...

why theses paddys like harrington and rory tamper with their swings is beyond me... take away rorys 3 missed cuts in a row and his results and consistency have been world class obv to take him to world number 1. I remember an interview at the wgc matchplay when he stated my swing changes im not fully used to yet, then again pre another tournament.

I think Rory is very similar to Norman and Mickleson. When he is on form he is superb. All three had/have the ability to blow a field away. All could charge through a field and shoot low rounds.
When i was younger Norman was my favourite player but his temperament under pressure was always suspect. He through away plenty of majors over the years.

Rory has already won a major and reached the world number one. After Tiger he is the biggest draw in the game. That is despite being 8 years younger than Rose.
Rose is a good player but I doubt he will get higher than that. His putting isn't good enough.
Rory has had a bad few weeks but in the context of his career it is a minor blip. The likelihood is for the next twenty years he will be at the top of the game, win multiple majors and have weeks where he blows the field away.

But the world No 1’s manager denied that the decision to sell his €2.3m Moneyreagh pad had any security implications following his controversial comments on feeling “more British than Irish” when discussing his potential allegiance for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Horizon Sports Management’s Conor Ridge said: “This is purely a practical and a commercial decision, there were no security issues whatsoever.”
McIlroy plans to stay at his parents’ Holywood home when back in the province.
However, he confessed in August last year that life in Northern Ireland had become more difficult due to his high profile.
Speaking about life at home some 13 months ago and his intention to rejoin the PGA Tour, McIlroy said: “It is tough and definitely a lot tougher than it was three months ago.
“There have been people driving up the driveway at home, which isn’t very nice, but as I said the other day, it is something I am just going to have to deal with.
“It has a little bit to do with my decision to base myself in America next year. I have had security guards at my house every night since I won the US Open, patrolling around the area. It is something that I just had to put in place, I’m afraid.

It has been an extremely difficult decision, as I have invested so much both financially and emotionally in the house and practice facilities there.
“However, with my global tournament schedule and ever-increasing schedule in the US, I am now only making it back home to Northern Ireland for a couple of weeks here and there during the summer months and at Christmas time.”
The five-bedroom house, which boasts a state of the art practice range, an all-weather tennis court/five-a-side football court and a freshwater pond, is expected to sell for over (€2.5m euro) £2m.
McIlroy is believed to have bought the house for the then £2m asking price more than three years ago, when he was based mainly on the European Tour.
Admitting that it’s tough to sell up, he added: “I have had to think long and hard about this and it has been a gut-wrenching decision, but the reality is that it is just not practical for me to own a property like this anymore when I rarely get to use it. My main priority when I get home nowadays is spending time with my friends and family.
“Hanging out with my parents and enjoying my Mum’s home cooking is what I love most about being home in Northern Ireland, so in a funny way, it will suit me to stay with Mum and Dad when I am home in future!”
McIlroy, 23, was celebrating again last week when he won the BMW Championship in Indiana, his third US Tour victory in four outings and last night teed it up in the Tour Championship in Atlanta hoping for a win that would land him the $10m FedEx Cup bonus.
A close friend said: “The facts speak for themselves. Rory is on the road almost 50 weeks of the year and he has not had any time to enjoy the house and the cost of its upkeep and maintenance for such little use are ridiculous.
“His home will always be Northern Ireland and he will return home as much as possible.”

Wonder how many interested buyers will appear for Rorys pad . 10 acres plus of well manicured and maintained golf course would not be on the wish list for many in this part of the world . Those of us who are golfers have a plentiful supply of golf courses equal to anywhere in the world if you put about a one hour time frame on travel from Rorys house . A grand a year sub approx for any of them . Only one of them is hard to get into and there are easier ways to play the course legitimately than getting out the prayer mat .
Can think of someone buying it and adapting the facility , but there would not be a huge footfall from passing trade . Most of us here would not need an on your door practice facility , nice to have , but maintenance costs etc plus security big factors .
