The casino and bingo giant Rank has put its loss-making online sports betting arm Blue Square up for sale.
Blue Square, best known for its sponsorship of the Conference leagues, was bought by Rank a decade ago for £63m, and it is likely to make a considerable loss on any sale. Rank said it was undertaking a "review of the business", which is generally code for it being up for sale.
Rank's chief executive, Ian Burke, ran a similar review in 2009 when Blue Square won a reprieve.
The brand is very weak and it doesn't have a USP, it's not making any money, probably has next to no assets and unless it has a foothhold in a particular countries' consciouness that another firm is missing and would like I doubt its worth much at all.

Bet365 have Ray Winstone's spinning head and "hundereds of in play markets".
Paddy Power have a mercurial owner, Athletico Kebab, special offers and a high street presence.

Skybet are the betting arm of Sky TV
What exactly are Blue Square? I know they are a betting firm, but what are they? They sponsor the Conference but that doesnt actually tell me who they are or give me a reason to use them. And if you did use them you would notice they'd gone downhill a lot imo since 2010, clearly cutting costs but hoping to remain on the same level competitively.

one tip for anyone trying to make bs work - sort out online limits. In the past year i've had four winners out of 15 bets (correct scores, first scorers, doubles) and they will let me have £20 on a Sunderland/Bradford double this week.

That could be their USP - run the operation like a proper book but that is never going to happen.
I agree with Clydebank. Of all the various operators you can now use online BlueSq are coming in way down the ladder in terms of which sites I would expect the average betting £ to be attracted to.

I think it's getting harder and harder generally to be a 'one-stop shop'.
Price-insensitive players increasingly prefer the FOBTs or online games, and anyone w/ an internet connection can check best price.
In fact exchanges are not the threat to conventional books' livelihood that they might have feared: they get a free tissue, can create false gambles and there are any number of ways to make the phenomenon work for them--like buying an exchange or having a brokerage or commission model.
But if a company like blue sq is not going to be best price as often as Viktor or decant its liabilities as efficiently as 3.65, then it's not going to survive.

They were once at the forefront of global betting with gambling opportunities such as, Live Snail Racing (1st Snail to climb a big stick) and Hamster Drag Racing (Which was a 6 trap race, featuring live Rodents propelling toy cars)
