Challenge Summary:

Well after two big losses this morning (Aussie Racing) and then another losing bet on the Aussie in the 20/20 cricket .... things were looking a bit grim. But a good day otherwise and having hit the £5K mark ... did some smaller bets later on and now taken the rest of the night off to either watch Strictly with my wife or that Liverpool show on channel 5 on my own ...

. Still having gone down hill shortly after starting this challenge tbh it is nice to see some reasonable progress .... might have to start playing a bit more sensibly in the sports I have no idea about ...

Little bit down yesterday having been in a nice profitable position but then decided to grab some more on some football bets .... who'da thought Barca and Real Madrid could score 4 goals between them ....

Having gone through today's UK racing card I was checking out other 'challenge' threads that people have started .... I really wish (if things go tits-up) people would simply stop their challenge by summarising one or the other what happened rather than simply not post anymore to suddenly turn up on another thread sic months later .... I have done a number of challenge threads and the one thing I pride (irrespective of how I got on) myself on is at least to have a concluding post to the thread .... only appropriate and polite for others who take the time to read it ....

While TBH I like to bet the way I wish to bet (simply because it is my money) - there was one post from another thread I did come across (posted by Zealot) which I thought was a great post:

If you are laying - you should never RISK more than 5% on any single bet .

Whenever you risk anything higher your emotions get more intense due to your bank growing too quickly or falling too quickly .

What I like the most about it - is its reference to bank growing too quickly and I know at times when I have had a good run of bets it leads you into a false sense of this is too easy ... which can almost be worse than a fall in the bank ... food for thought.

Also I do find it interesting the "for" and "against" with respect to stopping for the day when being in a profitable position. Many times (including yesterday) I have been a couple of hundred up in the day within a matter of a few bets and it is the decision to either carry on or stop (although TBH I have reduced stakes a couple of times ....) .... personally I like to keep going but I can see the merit in stopping.

Dlarssonf - If you care to read what I wrote - I said it would be nice to see a final comment concluding the thread as opposed to simply stopping posting ..... as for my own challenge threads I always conclude them (whether I lost the whole lot, decided to simply stop etc) .....

It is not about seeing one to the finish - it is simply concluding them one way or another which is nice for the OP to do given people take the time to read/follow like I do ....

Played a bit too much this morning - mainly because I put up a lay in CS market over-night and yep you guessed it I lost .... anyway currently around £8 up

...

Just going through some of the UK racing ...

Layed Finesse in the 2.40pm at 5.9 ... always find it difficult to decide when to get in and lay a horse early or wait later as many a times the odds move around so much.

Challenge Summary:

Yep it was one of those days - losing football CS bet overnight and went too heavy in one of my main lay selections. Down a lot for a good while - came back to within a couple of hundred - lost a bit more and then grabbed some profit towards the end (using a bit like a mini-challenge I sometimes do) where the final lump was on Lewis in the Darts .... long day and one I will try and avoid (well for at least today) ... thankfully today has started well and bank has hit just over the £6K mark ...

Challenge Summary:

Yep ... played too hard in a couple of sports and got caught ... loss on Fed the other day, lay of Vettel in the F1 and a loss in Watson tennis match all added up .... tiredness, going out and doing other things perhaps clouded my judgement.

Pity I can get myself into a good position with my betting but then a couple of 'stupid' moments costly me dearly ... I guess I am doing it my way and yes I know there are many experts out there that can do better than me ....

I can think of as many excuses as possible but the reality is that the bank has gone backwards. The only positive thing is that it is still over a 30% increase in the original amount after 1 month ....

Challenge Summary:

Yes it is correct. Don't clean your glasses. My serious challenge is turning into a seriously poor effort challenge .... some "bad luck" thrown but totally my fault. Whacked a lump on CSK in the cricket and a lump on Petrova in the tennis (even had a back bet set up at 50 to match on Halep only to see later that although Petrova went down to 1.02 Halep only went to 44 ....). I think that was a "sign" from above .... although I can easily afford these challenges it is down-right frustrating when I lump and dump .... oh well I could either remain silent like everyone else seems to do when they start a challenge (yep you know who you all are) but no I will stick with it .... I will however be topping the bank with another £2K so effectively the challenge original bank is £5K instead of £3K ... I will adjust the figures accordingly in the next summary. The challenge of reaching £100K remains unchanged but lets just say I will try and think long term

luck has nothing to do with it you simply get lucky, lose, then chase and reset

iv noticed you keep making points like 'i can easily afford this loss' etc that makes you sound pretty crazy and as tho u are heading for a breakdown

trying to cover up ur losses is a sign of desperation

I am really sorry ... as this may come as a shock to you MadDogs .... but while I am not the best 'gambler' around I am definitely rich enough to afford to fund these challenges 1000 times over

.... but no problem you think what you like as remember it is my money I am playing with

...

As for "luck" ... still think it exists and it does in part affect (our) betting being from having to make a cup of tea for the wife while a goal was scored or having to write this message while missing out on betting on a horse race ... call it timing or call it luck either way it does affect us all ....

should be possible but would require immense discipline

bets posted on here before the event is a priority imo. The timeframe should be as long as wanted, the main thing is to protect your bank and to cut out the long losing run

I would give it a shot but it would mean publicising my horse selections on here which I don't want to do

While I think the nice thing to do when finishing off these challenges - either succeed, fail or down right lose interest - at least one final post would be appropriate.

However from the flak I got when bringing back other people's old challenges (when they mysteriously stopped posting only for them to turn up 6 months later ....) suggested that other people don't care whether they do it or not ... so for this challenge I will remain silent .....

.... but for anyone interested the bank eventually fell to £793 (from the a starting bank of £3K) ... 40 days or so of entertainment at around £50 per day loss seems like good value to me ...

The burning question I know is will I start another challenges thread .....
