Is it really due to the new PC?

Could it be due to Betfair's announced intention to repurchase shares, or was this information not released at the same time?

Nice earner for them though, inflate the sale price then buy your £13 shares back at £7 a few months later

earnings were out today... they weren't brilliant, but weren't terrible either.... shares are a touch down on the day now.... PC change was barely mentioned in briefing... although they did say their strategy was going to increase margins (increase revenue without commensurate increase in costs).  The Buyback may not be seen positively because it could reflects a failure to use that capital for organic growth.

Share price moved from 730>770 yesterday afternoon... around time of PC announcement... but I wouldn't bet on any connection (if I had to give a reason for yesterday's move I would guess that there were some short positions covering (buying back) before the earnings release)

Guardian was on about "structural limits" within the exchange model and that best days might have gone.

Not exactly what you want to hear about a company positioning itself for growth

Not a stock and shares expert but if other major bookmakers have a PE ratio half of Betfair, does that mean if Betfair dont grow then their share price could be under £4 over time?

Its the buyback.

Very unusual for a growth company to buy back its own shares so soon after an IPO.

Normally a buy back is seen as the company believing its shares are under valued.

But in this case it could be seen as a rather desperate attempt to prop up the share price.

At the float employees and directors had over 5 million share options, which is rather a lot compared to traded shares.

Share options are a way to retain staff, but if those options are under water (in the parlance), employees are much more likely to leave.

Reading the prospectus, it looks like most options have an exercise price of UKP10. So definitely underwater.

been a bad week for Bf Pr.

Markdavies blog, at http://www.markxdavies.com/ gave a v interesting insight into his leaving.

Tough times, and it does appear, the PR side of the company, has suffered.

Ballabriggs

you have posted at least 5 times "where can i buy some"

seems slightly suspicious to me.... but if you are serious it is not hard to find a place.

barclaysstockbrokers and self invest ISA both cover betfair.... as would almosy every highstreet bank or broker

IG index etc all allow spread betting also if you want leverage.
