or, option b - wait for them to call again and get something out of them.

By:
cant be arsed to listen to their drivel trying to defend this charge, the bottom line is there is no justification other than greed itself

they should ring u and close your account...

they should ring u and offer a naked wrestling encounter in front of a roaring coal fire to sort out your differences once and for all.

Call me naieve, ignorant or plain stupid, but only consistent winners pay PC, don't they?
So if you're paying PC, then be happy! Apart from the PC charge which I assume covers Betfair's costs for staff and management of the site (which has improved significantly over the years), our winnings are otherwise tax-free. Betfair is a brilliant invention and has opened up a whole new world of opportunity to us punters that nobody else had ever thought possible. If you're losing on here, it's down to me and you, not them. Take the recent England v Sri Lanka first Test at Cardiff as a perfect example of how it was possible to make good money by trading in-play on the fifth day. You wouldn't have got that opportunity betting on the high street. So enjoy and make the most of this wonderful facility and stop whinging. Note to Betfair management: I am available to join your customer relations division on a starting basic of £50k plus travel expenses. Feel free to PM me. |

sunderlandfan,
Call them back. They may offer you a significant concession on the pc. They did me. |
|
By:
I dont pay the PC (yet) but I am deeply offended by its very existence

03 Jun 11 01:50 Call me naieve, ignorant or plain stupid, but only consistent winners pay PC, don't they? You are naive if you believe that. They have to be lifetime winners when they pay it, but may turn into lifetime losers after paying it for a while or even only once and as we all know, no rebates are given in these cases. Plenty of punters/position takers have had to pay at some time and then went on bad runs to take them way above the 20 % treshold. |

03 Jun 11 02:01 sunderlandfan, Call them back. They may offer you a significant concession on the pc. They did me You have seaid this a couple of times now, but must say I find it hard to believe? If it's true though, imo it's an even bigger disgrace than the charge itself. |
|
By:
What concession did you get pxb?
|
|
By:
yeah, I'm quite interested by that.
|
|
By:
And me please tell us more.
|
|
By:
I wouldn't believe everything that you read on the forum.
|
|
By:
Suppose his definition of concession is important here.
Did Betfair admit that their charge was unfair? Or did they actually give you a refund? Both seem unlikely. |
|
By:
Think you're being a bit naive if you think everyone's treated the same on Betfair
|
|
By:
Money talks and never more loudly than to the greedy.
|
|
By:
pxb, what did you get? A Betfair mug, or a Betfair fleece?

I remember a thread last year where a Betfair guy posted saying that 99% of the people moaning about the premium charge on the forum didn't even pay it or ever would, as it applied mainly to big time bot runners. Seems to me that these "I'm so pi$$ed off about the premium charge"-type threads are similar to the "I'm so pi$$ed off because I've had my account closed at X bookie" ones, i.e, attention-seeking "Look at me, I make lots of money at gambling and I want the whole world to know" bull$hit. I notice that sunderlandfan has said he doesn't even pay the charge "yet"...

The pc could have been handled better.A sliding scal;e over 2 years would have been easier to swallow too .
Also, what i think they should have done is taken the pc from cash WITHDRAWALS rather than per week . What happens if a punter who is 40k to the good ,has a 40k bank and has paid 6k in charges ,then one mad day he loses his bank and never bets again ? He would be paying a premium charge on a non profit. |
|
By:
^^^ simmilar situations have happened to plenty, betunfair could not give a toss, they have his money, that's all they care about.
Yet that same punter could have lost a fortune, before making his 40k, and guess what? He wouldn't have to pay a penny. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING |
|
By:
"I remember a thread last year where a Betfair guy posted saying that 99% of the people moaning about the premium charge on the forum didn't even pay it or ever would, as it applied mainly to big time bot runners"
But like a lot of their propaganda, it was a load of crap. |
|
By:
I wish they'd ring me.
All i had was an email informing me the 1st time I paid it. Would be nice to hear them try and justify their greedy exploiting of a monopoly. |
|
By:
I got a 13 week 'holiday' from the pc.
More importantly the pc I didn't pay during that period is calculated as if I had paid it. And before people ask, bf didn't tell why I got this concession. |
|
By:
There are other exchanges without a premium charge so why not just use them instead? Surely that would be the best response to express your dissatisfaction. If everyone who was apparently so pi$$ed off about the charge did the same then there might actually be some half decent liquidity on those other exchanges. If you think Betfair are ripping you off with their greedy exploitation then just stop trading here, simple as that. They don't owe you a living and can charge whatever they like. It's funny people talking about "greed" on a betting exchange. Your only here to make money, Betfair only exist to make money. If they charge you too much to use their site, then just stop using them. End of story.

Zeru, If you have been reading about this pc charge you will see that most people paying it don't mind the idea of paying more for the service, they just don't like the structure or the manner in which it was introduced... The pc charge has been nothing short of a pr disaster for betfair.. their lack of communication with punters and their spouting of propaganda in support of the charge show that it was an ill thought out move regardless of what betfair, or the seeds they plant on the forum, try and convince you of.. the biggest myths propagated include,
Only long term winners pay the pc Only traders/bot operators pay the pc Only .05% of customers pay the pc I'm sure others will add more to that.. If betfair honestly believed the pc was a force for good they would not feel the need to spread this bullshit to try and portray it in a positive manner... |
|
By:
Well said zeru. You would think the pc was introduced yesterday the way these same old names are going on. STFU or show some pride and leave imo. As for forum plants lol... the only forum plants are likely to be from b-daq stirring the pot.

By:
no danger of you ever paying it noodles.
|
|
By:
TP is right.
I am amazed that betfair tried to contact you sunderlandfan. You clearly are concerned about nothing that affects you and you just seem to get p1ssed up and start multiple threads about the same issue. I would take pleasure from calling you and just telling you that you are a customer I don't want. |
|
By:
noodles, if you don't like people complaining about a horrifically unfair tax, maybe you should avoid the threads where it occurs? I know it's a bizarre idea....but it just might be sensible...

03 Jun 11 23:15 "I wish they'd ring me. All i had was an email informing me the 1st time I paid it." And they clearly say in their Terms and Conditions on PC:- Please note that if you become eligible to incur Premium Charges, we will contact you before any charges are paid. |
|
By:
Sending an email comes under contact I reckon.
|
|
By:
^ but was he contacted before any charges were paid ?
he said he had an email 'informing him he had paid it' |
|
By:
Blimey! is this pedants corner?
Indeed you don't pay the 1st week. Dear Peter, We are writing to inform you that last week, for the first time, you would have been required to pay Premium Charges. However, in line with our policy for customer’s that incur the charge for the first time, last week’s Premium Charges have been waived. The charges should appear on your account statement as both a ‘Debit’ and a ‘Credit’ of exactly the same amount. Please be aware that in future, if your betting continues to be as successful as it has been, you may be required to pay Premium Charges. Full details of the charge can be found here. Any questions that you may have in relation to the charge should be directed to premiumcharge@betfair.com. The Betfair Management I'd have just thought a phone call from someone would be more appropriate, given they were from that moment onwards more than quadrupling the money they were asking me to pay. |
|
By:
Or at least a contact number, so you could talk to someone and receive a fuller explaination.
|
|
By:
They didn't tell me the first time.
I complained, and ask to be sent a copy of the email that they "supposedly" sent. Guess what, they couldn't provide it. ![]() |

MotoGp qualys peeps.
Much better to get on with it than Whinge. In fact sunderlandfan is rapidly converting General Betting into Whingersreunited. |
|
By:
If everyone had taken that attitude then we'd still have the poll tax, Alex.
On an open forum people have a right to whinge as much as they like. |
|
By:
As Turtle said to someone else.
You know what the thread is about before you open it. If you don't want to listen to people whinging about the unfairness of this tax then don't open the thread. |
