Finally suspended the market, how nice of them
By:
API and lite not a blip
By:
Getting API errors now
By:
geeks toy is working but really low activity
By:
It's also not acceptable to say it'll be down for 2 minutes and to be down for what is now 12 minutes.
By:
Errors probably due to market suspensions, cant't check this though!
By:
I'm guessing the test is not going well!
By:
".. and you're back in the room"
By:
should not be doing live testing, seems odd to me. Do it at night if you really need to.
In middle of day with 5 mins notice very odd |
By:
Had a bet matched at 13:00 too, so they didn't suspend at the start of the test. Be interesting to see if eddie had any matched even later than that.

my questions:
1. why is always your users who are aware that the site is down so much more quickly than your helpdesk staff and whoever is responsible for shutting down the API and suspending markets when the fault is at architectural layer that does not bring down the API. should you not be monitoring your site second by second, especially after performing major upgrades? 2. what was the cause of the two periods of site downtime on Wednesday morning at 10:23 and 11:44? the site was down for two to three minutes on both occasions as reported by plenty of users on the forum. why did you not feel it was necessary to apologise for this on the forum? 3. would it not have been a better idea on Saturday to have brought the site down once, fixed the problem properly and then bring the site back up instead of the consecutive crashes which your userbase had to tolerate. repeated downtimes is a much worse experience than extended site unavailability. do you think the way you handled the consecutive crashing on Saturday was the right way, or "have lessons been learnt"? 4. is the risk posed by site instability (and the effect instability has on your customers) due to upgrades always quantitatively justified by the benefits the upgrade brings? Would you care to outline the benefits introduced by the latest upgrade and estimate the cost to your business, both directly through commission, and likely customer attrition brought about by the crashes on Saturday. 5. You brought the site down at 13:00 today as per your service announcement. do you honestly believe it's acceptable to give your customers notice of this 6 minutes before you brought it down on the general betting forum? do you not think it would have been better to have posted this on all forums, or at the very least those where there were live in play events occurring? again and again you tell your customer base that you recognise that you frequently fail in communicating with them effectively and are taking steps to address this: this is evidently nothing more than hot air. |

Middle of day during one of the major events of the day too.
I know they tend to ignore golf and cricket but the top three in the world in the same group qualifies as major event. |
By:
I had bets matched at 1.02pm
By:
hope someone phoned them and gave them what for.....
pure arrogance |
By:
So they didn't suspend despite knowing they were taking the site offline.
Their reasons to me were that they didnt suspend on Saturday because they weren't aware the site was down! |
By:
for what i've noticed Geeks never went down
By:
Geeks Toy did....
By:
It's farcical that some methods of access work and some don't.
By:
Contrarian, was that in an inplay market ? I don't see any reason to suspend and cancel bets in markets that aren't inplay.
By:
email them at livechat@betfair.com
It probably won't make much of a difference but it's better than doing nothing/moaning on here. My gripe was there being no effective warning. I doubt that many people use the forum. They should email all customers and have messages throughout the website. Ideally there'd be the option of receiving a message flash up on screen that requires you to click on it to confirm you've read it. |
By:
Did you send Betfair an e mail to thank them for making you some money the other day in the golf Eddie?
![]() |
By:
No Jimmy, I didn't because their failure to suspend markets during that close to three hour outage probably ended up costing me money even if none of my lays that were taken during the outage actually went on to win.
I know you will struggle to understand how, but I can assure you that is the case. |
By:
If the 540 test goes badly, we'll miss the 6pm performance chat.
By:
Lori, that's not fair, you know very well that they are able to keep the forum going 24/7 !!
By:
Eddie,
No, it wasn't an IP market |
By:
my guess is, they want to be able to say it's definitively fixed in the livechat, hence the short notice testing.
By:
"The proof of the fixing will be in the eating, not the livechat" :)
I.e. if we go say the next month and it doesn't happen again.. |
By:
SH!T , down again !!
By:
and here we are again
![]() |
By:
I don't understand this one. The site seems ok to me, but they've suspended the IP markets.
By:
Ok, back again.
By:
now the question is... was this one scheduled five minutes ago or longer?
By:
well thats an improvement
![]() ultra short down time |
By:
This one was scheduled. They have an announcement about it in the service section of the forum. They didn't bother to informe us her on GB this time though. What about some consistency in your warnings Betfair ?
By:
No, not here , my markets is the same as always.
By:
Yes, they've posted this in less forums this time! What a waste of time last night was.
By:
booom. thanks for the warning
By:
This is beyond a joke. . .
By:
It has been very slow for me this morning. Anyone else ?
By:
Can't place bets or access my bets..
