Clacher, over the years only a couple have gone on to analyse results and back them but with little success. One guy did a study of irish results at Galway and was down there one night and he picked a winner, told me to back it (I didn't) and it won in a very dodgy photo at 4/9. Hardly profitable ! (The photo had been rubber stamped "OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPH" over the nose of the 6 dog so you could not see if it had done the jolly !)
Obviously I can't be too specific but in general terms they prove that graders underestimate young improving dogs and that they frequently underestimate the dogs starting yardage in handicaps. As well as that they used correlation to show there was hardly any evidence to prove a perceived track bias from the results of 99% of meetings and more recently they have shown that the bags "gambles" aren't profitable at all unless you get the early prices. All information that anyone who knows anything about dog racing would probrably know anyway ! |

thats a reassuring post irishone, if youd told me that theyd all gone on to be billionaires id have been upset.

Clacherholiday 2.. zip here .. any track any grade there is about .20 spots between all six dogs . thats about 2 yards in old money ..thats why its hard to win backing in graded races .... now Open Racing thats another Story .. in graded races zip is a layer .. open races zip is a backer .

Books at White City for BAGS Jack Lomas Walmesley Bros Ken Mercer Len Walton ( i think) Luis Junior (I think) Curly Clarke Incidentally,Many years ago I was floorman/clerk for Sam Day. Believe me he knew very little about dogs. All he could do was price up top 160% and take it from there - of course in those days it was a licence to print money GL |

hey zipo
agreed, graded BAGS racing should be the preserve of layers, its much easier to pick a dog thats going to take a bump than trying to predict one that wont. but then only the truly heartless want to be cheering on some poor mut to get tripped, aint for me. |

i just dont like some of guys (no names) who have posted on the daily dogs topic over the past few years who are delighted to hear their lay doing backflips on bend 1 for the sake of winning a fiver. i just like dogs more than i like gambling, its just me though and never actively try and put people off it as everyones different. if a boxer or a football breaks a bone you can explain to them why its happened, you cant explain to a dog why its in pain, sadly its all to easy to predict which dogs are likely to tumble about. |

By:
fair enough Clacher, the dogs coming home safe & sound is priority number one.
