When: 27 Aug 08 21:50
hi, i never just predict willy nilly, i have to admit, i dont put hours of research into it but i do look at recent form/ league position etc. Alot of them i place whilst in-play after i get a feel for how i believe the game may go.

Take the Liverpool game in ET, odds of 8.0 were offered for 2-0 correct score, neither team all match looked as though they could score until one lucky cross found the back of the net, very late in the game, that 2-0 was a gift i thought!.
By:
jeski
When: 27 Aug 08 22:07
just my opinion totga but I would seriously consider stopping your 'all-in' method. You have built up your profits and I wouldn't want you to have a few bad calls on the bounce and be back at square 1. You study the stats and you sound like you are aware of obtaining value in the odds, well at least not taking very poor prices.
Study as normal, become an expert in that market and take the prices you feel are in your favour. Stake accordingly to what edge you feel you have for every game seperately and you may be able to make profits long term, I can only see you losing in the end with your method. If you are just playing for fun then hats off to you, well done and I hope your good run continues. Forget about progression and all in type staking and use your skill/judgement to make consistant profits.
By:

When: 27 Aug 08 22:11
Most of the pre match correct score odds are very efficient and I find it difficult to find any value, but I agree that in-play is the way forward, people laying bets off, over reaction etc. a lot of opportunities to get some value.

cheers jeski, your comments are noted but at present this is a bit of fun, and as long as i can keep 1 bank intact, i will be in profit!. Going to see if i can make it to 10 or 15 bets and go from there!

I defo note your comments about "all in" but feel that i have an advantage with 2 banks running at the same time....

By:

Aug 13, 2008 Copa Nissan Sudamericana Draw Atletico Parana... 0 - 0 Sao Paulo FC

This was first leg result........

These two way cup ties are "dangerous" to lay 0-0......in first leg especially. there appears to be a tendency for home teams just to play to keep it 0-0, thus avoiding an away goal. BARCELONA were doing this last season for example ...and quite a few other teams at top level.

I know the tie was a 2nd leg , and I would have fancied a goal in that tie as well.......but the fear of losing an away goal takes teams over!

Just look at LIVERPOOL result last night...very similar circumstances. 0-0 1st leg away......you would fancy LIVERPOOL to win on 90 mins.....BUT...they wait until into ET before they turn up pace and go for that winning goal....they hope the away team are knackered by time it is ET. They goat away with it last night....SL would have ruined their plan had they scored in 90 .....

All I am saying is ...beware laying 0-0 in two way ties.

Obviously never just stick on a bet when you are drunk either......as chances are you won't be fully aware of the bet you choose.

TOTGA - you are basically betting on ODDS ON shots, so your strike rate is likely to be very high......and so far so good.

Generally I have been impressed with your understanding of the game and on your bet selection..........and you are already well ahead in profit. So the strategy you have adopted is working fine for you, because you are very good on bet selection, therefore the method adopted is going really well.....keep it going.

As long as you decide to take profit and start at a lower level, the way you did after first week/8 days......then you have a fair chance of being in profit.

It is clear , from your selected bets, that you are not just "guessing"........picking scores at random......that would be a recipe for disaster staking the way you are.

Koo has shown that he is prepared to lose £10,000, then £20,000, then £32,000 ( his "small" bank for a days' betting)..........and his bank has grown rapidly, with days where he has lost his small bank( though those days have been very few).................So the way you are staking for a run of bets will be considered by many as not the way to stake........but now you are operating with "small banks" ( 2x £250) and are prepared to lose them to go for rapid growth,is not much different from Koo. You both rely on your skill in selecting bets .......and both are very good at that.

The strategy of playing with two banks......is a good one ....chances are you don't lose both banks at roughly same time, and one bank can still be sufficient for you to reach target.....PROVIDED BET SELECTION IS OF A GOOD STANDARD, WHICH IT MOSTLY HAS.

Long may your run continue ...and others on thread....( sky will be regretting the "drunken" bet....but at least hopefully something has been learned).

GL with bets today.

azza -Thursday Aug 14, 2008 Manchester City FC 0 - 1 FC Midtjylland i+

A 0-0 draw suits home team.

They have already proved their defence must be reasonable away from home....so why would they play an open game against MC?????

OK - MC have to score....but they failed to do it 1st leg.....why should they succeed 2nd leg?

I agree that both teams are well capable of scoring goals......and the lay on 0-0 might work out......0-2 appears a better choice though , as -

1. Odds are lower to lay.
2. The home team are likely to score IF MC score.
3. MC keeping a "clean sheet" is unlikely.
4. Likely home team will play a tight match , and objective being 0-0.

So MC winning 0-2 will be extremely hard for them, in the circumstances of this game......whereas 0-0 could well happen, as suits home team.

Anyway....GL with the bet....fingers, and everything else crossed for you!!!!

Hi guys, thanks very much for all your comments.

Azza, keep up the hard work mate, itll pay off eventually.

DFC, great summary once again, i always enjoy your pre-match summary and feel that you have a great understanding of the game. My little system works very well with the correct score laying, as you stated its fairly easy to predict lay bets of say 8.0 plus but keeping them winning is the difficult part!.

I normally look at all fixtures (that i am interested) and mark matches that are going in-play. I then write a few sentences on how i feel the game may evolve, and tend to normally stick with my initial thoughts. Last night i would of been scourned on 1 match out of 9 that i predicted, that being the West Ham 1-1 correct score, was a big suprise to me and im sure many others aswell!

Today, Man City have it all to play for, they managed 3 goals the wkend v a 10man West Ham team but i fancy a Man City goal this afternoon which is why i stuck with the 1-0. If ever i had chance to put a NAP on here it would be the Torquay 0-1 correct score, im a big follower of non league football and 0-1 just WILL NOT HAPPEN this evening!!

Keep posting everyone as the more thoughts on here the more i get to learn and pinch your ideas for FREE!!!! :-)

smythey
- Hi.

The subject of "value" .........eeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkksssssssssssss!!!!!

This is "subjective"........In general making a "value" bet is the only way to go, because it is the only chance of winning. If you keep on making bets at odds that are relatively "poor"....eg 1.78 place bets with horses races in a race with 20 runners , many first time out etc etc ......then you more than likely WILL lose in long run.

I've made such bets before.....and know how basically "stupid" such bets are, when the odds do not reflect a horse's chance of placing. The brain just does not work when such a bet is made.

The bets TOTGA is making are odds on bets.....but it is a question of ..."are the bets value"? From what I have seen of bet selections ...YES .....most of the bets IMO have been "value", due to the chances of such CS happening have been small IMO......there have only been a couple of matches where I thought the bet was very "risky", but that was just my opinion.

So TOTGA's bets, although odds on, have been "value" IMO ]:)

Whereas, say for example K's latest football thread, where he selects 6 CS and backs them to level stakes...."fearing the draw", BUT NOT HAVING A DRAW IN CS SELECTIONS.......I do not think he gets "value" by such blanket bets...at level stakes.

Many of the CS he puts into his selections are just BAD BETS IMO, and unlikely to happen....therefore making such bets his way, dilutes the return IF HE GETS LUCKY AND GETS 1 BET OUT OF 6 "RIGHT"!

He is already losing over 12 points in 4 matches, and as he is only gonna get a small return on his current 6 points "investment" per game.............almost an odds on return if gets 1 score right in 6 selections.

He would be better off listening to his INSTINCT................I thought he did not have any due to his stubbornness not to lay off a CS in games where likely more goals would be scored. He would be more likely to make a "value" bets, than what he is doing just now IMO.

I am sure TOTGA does weigh up the "value" in making her bets.................the value being in selecting scores that are, for various reasons, unlikely to happen. So I do believe it is "massively important" for TOTGA to not do bets that are likely to happen at odds that are not "value".....................she will have a high strike rate, but that is because she is weighing games up very well .( I think there was only 1 game where the whole bank was lost SO FAR.....but that will happen, as it is had being "right" all the time...though K thinks he is !!!!!! ]:))

INSTINCT is a valuable tool in a punter's armoury.....and if you have that, as well as having a good knowledge of your chosen sport, together with being numerate AND "LUCKY"....then you have a fair chance to win. I'm not so sure TOTGA is "systematic" in how she goes about making selections, though many of the bets are after watching matches for say 10/15 minutes.....which is being systematic....I suspect much is just down to having a good knowledge of how certain teams play, and how certain games go ( cup ties etc ), and is INSTINCTIVE in how she selects bets. She appears to be far better than most of us at this way of betting......I am sure it is not just random luck for her success to date.

So ....I agree that "value" is of prime importance
in having a bet ( although "fun" bets are diferent....)...being the bet has a strong chance of coming off, based on your knowledge of the sport, and the odds are in your favour
.

Here is hoping I can remember that when I make any bets in future !!!!! :D

Excellent read once again DFC. you truly are an inspiration at summarising people.

I do tend to luck for value but very occasionally get swayed with my "instinct", im fairly new to football and have only been watching it for the past 4-5 years, which compared to alot of my family/ friends isnt much time at all, my strength though, i believe is trying to absorb what information i can pre-match and using it to my advantage!

WHat do you think of my next 2 bets? Im sure you may have some views on these two!!
