Good spot omega. Last time I used the account was 2006 - can still only back to win £10, you would think they would have increased it due to inflation !!

Feck I thought you were a sky broadband customer. I already get sky sports free online from sky as a sky sports subscriber with multi room (or sky broadband unlimited).

hazel, I don't subscribe to sky sports. They have only a few games a year I'd be interested in.

Ian, I emailed them myself on Thursday and they told me they had contacted the relevant dept but nothing since then. The offer did say we'd be contacted within 4 days.

Feck I looked at the offer and it's for SKY Sports subscribers !! Have I missed something , you stated you aren't a sports subscriber ?
By:

When: 27 Feb 10 15:38
Joe, looking at that I'm pretty sure they've changed the wording from "If you are a Sky Bet and Sky customer" to "If you are a Sky Bet and Sky Sports customer" as I'm sure I looked closely at the details beforehand. As hazel says, if you're a sky sports subscriber you can get sky sports online for free anyway so the "promotion" is useless going by their new wording.

I'm beginning to suspect they've been snowed under by people realising they can cancel their sky sports subscription and get it for nothing through this promotion. I'll bet that's what this delay is about. In a few days time we'll get an email telling us we aren't eligible.

How to access free Sky Sports online:

1. Simply log in to your Sky Bet account, click 'my account' and in the free bet section enter promo code SPORTS

2. Place any bet.

3. Check in 'My Preferences' that your account is marked as contactable and that we have your correct email details as we'll need to send you log in details via email.

4. After 5 days you will receive an email containing a Username and Password that will give you free online access to Sky Sports.

5. As long as your account remains active, you will continue to have access to the streaming.

Lifetime free sky sports for placing a fiver bet. They must be absolutely bricking it. I wonder what genius thought that one up. :-)

From the sky site

Watch channels live online, including Sky Sports. If you have Sky Multiroom or Sky Broadband Unlimited, channels you already subscribe to can also be viewed on your computer for free.

Going by that the only people who would benefit from the promotion are people who already subscribe to sky sports but don't have either multiroom or the top broadband package. WOW. That makes the tote's "place a £5 pool bet with us and we'll enter you into a draw for one free £25 bet" look like an exciting opportunity.

I received this email from them this evening

Thanks for your email.

Terms and conditions for promotions are regularly updated by our marketing department.

Customers who pay for the sky sport package can now view sky sports when they are not at home, via their pc?s. The new wording now emphasises that they have to be paying for Sky sports channel to be eligible for this promotion

I'm surprised they've admitted to having changed the terms and conditions. When I looked at the offer last week I specifically checked that I qualified and then placed my bets in good faith. If I don't get the offer then I'll be following the example of those 3 guys who reported bet 365 to the advertising authority.

I've now had an email saying that the marketing dept. will look at it tomorrow. I've no doubt I wouldn't have heard anything from them if I hadn't followed it up. Very poor. They asked in the email to confirm that I do subscribe to Sky Sports but, as Feck says, it didn't say that originally.
By:
Feck N. Eejit
When: 28 Feb 10 14:21
I sent them this yesterday but haven't had a reply.

Before I placed my bets I checked the promotion terms to make sure I was eligible. At that time it only stated you had to be a sky customer. I then placed those bets in good faith. If you're now changing the terms so that I no longer qualify for the promotion you've effectively taken my bets under false pretences. If that's the case I'll have to contact the advertising authority regarding your false advertising.

The initial offer was crazy as obviously anyone with sky sports would just cancel and go for the promotion BUT the reworded offering is equally ludicrous as there's so few people it would be of any use to.

Recceived this reply

I am sorry to hear that you feel that the SPORTS promotion is mis-leading.

However, I can confirm that the terms of the offer have been that you need to have a Sky Sports subscription to benefit from the offer for some considerable time. Clearly it would not be in our interests to make the sports package available to non-subscribers as then custoimers would not need to subscribe at all.

It may be that this information was missed as it was part of the terms and conditions of the offer, but it has always been part of this offer.

Clearly if you wish to escalate the matter further then that is a matter for yourself.

Kind Regards,

To which I replied

Hi Simon,

Take a look at one of the replies to me in the history below. There's an email from skybet that states

"Terms and conditions for promotions are regularly updated by our marketing department. Customers who pay for the sky sport package can now view sky sports when they are not at home, via their pc's. The new wording now emphasises that they have to be paying for Sky sports channel to be eligible for this promotion".

To me that confirms that changes have been made and I can assure you I checked I was eligible (i.e. you needed only to be a sky subscriber) before placing £100 of bets last Saturday.

I totally agree that the promotion was ill thought out on your part but it's equally ridiculous that you would set up a promotion whereby people who have sky sports on their tv can get a password to get it on their pc when most of them will be eligible for such a password in any case. What next? A promotion where betting a winner will result in being paid out at the correct odds?

Be assured I will be taking it further.

Blimey, opened a can of worms here. Fair play tho Feck, youre spot on here. I could swear that the promo meant that sky bet customers could get free online screening by taking part.
No password here either.BTW

When I looked it stipulated "If you are a Sky Bet and Sky Sports customer" , I guess they could have amended it since it was posted but I've looked at the previous versions in googles cache and they also had the sky sports customer stipulation.

Good luck with it feck but I think it was misread when originally posted.

If it helps, I understood it to be for sky sports subscribers thats why I posted earlier that you could already get it free if you had multi room or sky broadband unlimited.

hazel, you posted that a week after we applied by which time I'm assuming they had changed it. When I looked at the offer the previous Saturday I specifically looked to make sure you didn't have to be a sky sports subscriber.

Joe, are you looking at the actual promotions page in the google cache?

The current offer reads

Watch Sky Sports online for FREE
If you are a Sky Bet and Sky Sports customer, we are thrilled to announce a new service that will make you the envy of all your friends and colleagues. You can now watch Sky Sports action via your PC!

I'm sure when I read that the Sports word wasn't present (I think their "new wording" mail confirms that) but to be honest I didn't see the link to the terms and conditions below the offer so it may have already have stated sports in there.

Does no one else think the offer as it now stands is ridiculous in any case? I mean it should read

Watch Sky Sports online for FREE
If you are a Sky Bet and Sky Sports customer and you don't have multiroom and you don't subscribe to our unlimited broadband service, we are thrilled to announce a new service that will make you the envy of all your friends and colleagues. You can now watch Sky Sports action via your PC!

Either they've made a balls up or the promotion is designed to deceive.

Yep was the promotions page feck, just looked again and found a cache showing 20 Feb 2010 01:53:57 GMT which was before you posted

Arch, I'm aware of that. It's also a tenner a month for unlimited broadband but it still doesn't exactly make for a broad appeal promotion.

Joe, is there anything suspicious about the fact that the wording in the link itself doesn't include sports?

Doesn't mean they didn't miss it in error for a day or so but very unlikely. The actual google cache of the promotions page was from 20 Feb 2010 22:20:52 GMT
