I am fasinated by the fact people make a living from it. Im not on about live feeds and in running trading. I have tried to lay all horses at 1.5 in a race once two get matched at level stakes I profit. Had a staking plan but it was obvious not going to work. I needed more close finishes

I have tried many, many ways to beat the game. And the conclusion is, you need to learn how to beat the game. You need to put a lot of effort into it to get the results you want. The thing that keeps me going is that there is a lot of liquidity in horse racing, even though is down a lot lately. This means potential for a lot of profit once you crack it.

Do you make a living from it brian. Would you care to give me a few pointers. Are you talking about been at the track and having high speed connections or just setting up before the race. Thanks in advance

how would somebody like me , an idiot , find ideas for different types of strategies ? not after the holy grail -just a few ideas to look into . thanks :) |
By:
Thanks Tiger I actually saw that post. The front runners that are favourites are worth backing and laying just below. If they lead they usually trade shorter so you can lay and tie in a profit.
By:
Back high, lay low.
By:
Chicken What do you mean. Have you a strategy
By:
Look for horses that have been supported and have shortened SLIGHTLY in the market.Don't be too greedy with your lay odds.Use smallest stakes possible until you get a "feel" for it.Good luck.
By:
I appreciate that Tiger. I will try that for a while and see how it goes. Thanks again

I'll put one up for each race at Kempton tonight.See if you pick the same.

My personal answer discovered a couple of years ago was to develop a mathematical strategy with logical reasons why it works and use stats but only to support the theory and not to be dominant or dependant , consequently stop having a personal view on what may or may not happen and not kid yourself you have any edge as they're all factored in anyway and no individual is that good.
Conclusion : forget form study and forming personal opinions and use modern technology trading tools as an alternative. each to their own of course but the original question of what works on betfair is too restrictive a statement in my view , it's a big industry out there. good hunting. |

By:
Backed 10 at 3.4 layed 11 euro at 3.1. a euro profit minus commission. But seems to be the way to go . Will stay very small until I get a feel for it.
By:
Couldn't find one in the 7.50.
Court Princess had shortened significantly before the "off",leaving little room for manouvre in-running. |
By:
Did kirsty boy and was out before the race started. Small profit again but thats fine. I guess its when oone goes wrong you are in trouble but thats the skill I guess
By:
traded short ching ching
By:
not in trouble if you get the staking right m8,little and often, marathon not a sprint and all that nonsense people post

zegna back to lay i/r

Thanks ibrox. How short do you trade eg a horse backed at 3 would you lay at 2.9 or less. How do you chose your selections. Is it via the live shows and as tiger says look for horses that are shortening in price. Which site is best for live shows. Sorry for all the questions.
By:
I use Sportinglife dot comm for the live shows.
Don't do the ones that have shortened by miles, less room for manouvre. I think Ibrox picks his on the form of the horse. You wont go far wrong following him. |
By:
Thanks Tiger. This is excellent info. Thanks to both you and ibrox for taking time to reply
By:
Did Senga and was out again before the race.

gstreet......
...what works on Betfair........MATHS. try dutching any market for a return of 50% ......(0.5%in relation to your bank)..... ...use a non agressive gradual recovery system to recoup when you occasional hit a loss. apply to any type of market. ...no charge for this advice....nope. |
By:
You been talking to Ivor,Eg ?
By:
egner i understand dutching do you mean pick out the horses you think will win and dutch them. Sorry if this is a stupid question just not sure
By:
not for a whilr tame....does he still post....felt he was a kindred spirit...with his +0.01259 % return for the day !!!!!!!!
By:
do quite alot of dutching myself, usually fav@2nd fav,can be profitable if you get the staking right, which i dont think i have mastered yet,
By:
0.65% was the norm at one time
