What systems work on betfair. What i mean is what methods bring regurlar profit. I back football and do well but would love to capture the horses.

I am fasinated by the fact people make a living from it. Im not on about live feeds and in running trading. I have tried to lay all horses at 1.5 in a race once two get matched at level stakes I profit. Had a staking plan but it was obvious not going to work. I needed more close finishes
Report kef4o December 30, 2009 6:10 PM GMT
I have tried many, many ways to beat the game. And the conclusion is, you need to learn how to beat the game. You need to put a lot of effort into it to get the results you want. The thing that keeps me going is that there is a lot of liquidity in horse racing, even though is down a lot lately. This means potential for a lot of profit once you crack it.

in running's the game
Report gstreetblue December 30, 2009 6:16 PM GMT
Do you make a living from it brian. Would you care to give me a few pointers. Are you talking about been at the track and having high speed connections or just setting up before the race. Thanks in advance

how would somebody like me , an idiot , find ideas for different types of strategies ?
not after the holy grail -just a few ideas to look into .
thanks

Report gstreetblue December 30, 2009 6:26 PM GMT
Thanks Tiger I actually saw that post. The front runners that are favourites are worth backing and laying just below. If they lead they usually trade shorter so you can lay and tie in a profit.
Report McChicken_Sandwich December 30, 2009 6:30 PM GMT
Back high, lay low.
Report gstreetblue December 30, 2009 6:33 PM GMT
Chicken What do you mean. Have you a strategy
Report TameTheTiger December 30, 2009 6:35 PM GMT
Look for horses that have been supported and have shortened SLIGHTLY in the market.Don't be too greedy with your lay odds.Use smallest stakes possible until you get a "feel" for it.Good luck.
Report gstreetblue December 30, 2009 6:37 PM GMT
I appreciate that Tiger. I will try that for a while and see how it goes. Thanks again
Report TameTheTiger December 30, 2009 6:40 PM GMT
I'll put one up for each race at Kempton tonight.See if you pick the same.
Report Hayden December 30, 2009 6:44 PM GMT
My personal answer discovered a couple of years ago was to develop a mathematical strategy with logical reasons why it works and use stats but only to support the theory and not to be dominant or dependant , consequently stop having a personal view on what may or may not happen and not kid yourself you have any edge as they're all factored in anyway and no individual is that good.
Conclusion : forget form study and forming personal opinions and use modern technology trading tools as an alternative.

each to their own of course but the original question of what works on betfair is too restrictive a statement in my view , it's a big industry out there.

good hunting.

Backed 10 at 3.4 layed 11 euro at 3.1. a euro profit minus commission. But seems to be the way to go . Will stay very small until I get a feel for it.
Report TameTheTiger December 30, 2009 6:57 PM GMT
Couldn't find one in the 7.50.
Court Princess had shortened significantly before the "off",leaving little room for manouvre in-running.
Report gstreetblue December 30, 2009 7:24 PM GMT
Did kirsty boy and was out before the race started. Small profit again but thats fine. I guess its when oone goes wrong you are in trouble but thats the skill I guess

Report gstreetblue December 30, 2009 7:38 PM GMT
Thanks ibrox. How short do you trade eg a horse backed at 3 would you lay at 2.9 or less. How do you chose your selections. Is it via the live shows and as tiger says look for horses that are shortening in price. Which site is best for live shows. Sorry for all the questions.
Report TameTheTiger December 30, 2009 7:42 PM GMT
I use Sportinglife dot comm for the live shows.
Don't do the ones that have shortened by miles, less room for manouvre.
I think Ibrox picks his on the form of the horse. You wont go far wrong following him.

...what works on Betfair........MATHS.

try dutching any market for a return of 50% ......(0.5%in relation to your bank).....

...use a non agressive gradual recovery system to recoup when you occasional hit a loss.

apply to any type of market.

...no charge for this advice....nope.
Report TameTheTiger December 30, 2009 8:24 PM GMT
You been talking to Ivor,Eg ?
Report gstreetblue December 30, 2009 8:24 PM GMT

Report egner December 30, 2009 8:26 PM GMT
not for a whilr tame....does he still post....felt he was a kindred spirit...with his +0.01259 % return for the day !!!!!!!!
Report ibrox December 30, 2009 8:26 PM GMT
do quite alot of dutching myself, usually fav@2nd fav,can be profitable if you get the staking right, which i dont think i have mastered yet,
Report ibrox December 30, 2009 8:28 PM GMT

Report egner December 30, 2009 8:28 PM GMT

doesnt just have to be horses.....Greyhounds (70 markets a day)
US horses (at lest 50 a day) etc etc

One of the problems wiyh BF is that it constantly evolves and moves on so what works today may not work in 6 months time. Whatever method you try you are up against some very clever people, very clever technology and of course commission.
It always will come down to having an edge and if you've got an edge you dont broadcast it because once you do you no longer have an edge.
Report iknownothingithink December 31, 2009 1:08 PM GMT
i know this system isnt bulet proof but about 2 weeks ago i placed £1000 on betfair woke up about 7 o clock got the racing post went through every race writing the current prices by the horses name. Then come race time went back to the paper and looked at the difference in the market and if something drifted maybe 4 or 5 points i looked at the form of it and if thought it was worth it id lay it for £10 to be honest because im a novice was most races but in the whole week i layed 2 winners and more than doubled my money. I know people my say i was reckless and lucky and i probably was im of the oppinioun that money talks in racing more than it does in any other sport. In my head ive writen off the £1000 that i deposited ive now got £2000 in my acount and what ever i win daily now i withdraw like i say i now its not bullet proof but man im having fun while learning a few leasons any advise would be appreacated.good luck to all thank you

hi iknownothing

did you have a limit on the odds you would lay at.
what made you decide it was worth laying

cheers
Report gstreetblue December 31, 2009 1:41 PM GMT
Thats sounds good. It def worth a go.
Report iknownothingithink December 31, 2009 3:38 PM GMT
i took a few chances at 1 point i layed at 20 for £10 and my liability was obviously £200 but in the morning it was 8.6 and the horse was unplaced 4 times on the heavy and i doubted it would stay 3 miles witch on the ground looked like 3 and a half miles the horse is still running now so that turned out to be a good investment but it was very riskey. So to answer your question no i dont fear the prices things drift for a reason.I wish you all the best and have a happy and profitable new year.Good luck

i would mate but i trade in almost every race and it would take forever to do.One thing i will say say to you mate is follow it with no money to see how you do and once youve got the confidence then attack. But the most important thing trust yourself and just as important dont lose your head when things go against you because they will a profit is a profit at the end of the day not half way through the reason i say this because last monday after 12 races i was £120 up and i layed a 10/1 winner so id lost £100 of my money and i wanted to start backing to get my money back. So i turned the computer off for half an hour palyed football with my son cleared my head then went again with the same idea and showed a profit of £90 that day and that was my profit i forgot about he £120 half way through the day
Report gstreetblue January 1, 2010 11:19 AM GMT
