My first selection is hopefully Jimmy Styles in the 3.25 at Newmarket.I have a place lay waiting to be matched @3.35 for 2.55 stake.

If you're laying for the Place don't be afraid to go up to 6.00 or IR. I have the following system & it varies from 3 pts a day to 20 pts a day - No loss after one week!!
Basically, get yourself a copy of the Daily Mirror. Now find a horse that qualify's (The nearest to the top the better) for 3 pts or less under the top Spotform (so 29 if 32) that's 1 point. If the horse has also came 3rd of higher last time out that's 2 pts (1 pt = £2.00, 2 pts = £5.00 liabilty no higher than £25.00)

Just had a quick look at race and some comments on race chosen and horse selected etc are -

1. Amateur jockeys race..........mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....so likely open to "odd" results IMO.

2. Horse selected won 4 races out its' first 6 races.......and has run in races in CLASS 2 and 3 mainly since last win.........so down in Class today.....only CLASS 4.

3. Trainer has relation riding horse and the jockey has won before........


I know that " at a glance " the last 6 race record of selection is not "impressive" compared to other 4yo runners in race..................but above factors make it a dodgy place lay IMO......


At least the race looks a highly competitive affair..........................so that should increase chances of place lay coming off..............

With going apparently described as GOOD..............this may effect Penang Cinta as this race is up in class for it..................may be a beter place lay at odds etc..........this would be my "guess" on race for place lay.

I wouldnt go laying too many of Moores horses at the moment, think he might be getting back to some sort of form after a dreadful time and some of em might be well handicapped.

So the guesser gets one right. JUST.

Duly noted dodgy,I saw the distances of it's first two wins and took a chance that it would gas out over this distance,especially with 11st3lb on it's back.

Like that one Usaidit.....................appears to have "bad draw" for going ....though last year on HEAVY going the winner was also drawn low.

Probably the draw factor combined with weight factor and the number of horses appeatring to have better chances should enable lay to be landed. :D

BATTLE ROYAL and INDIAN TONIC may fight out finish with HIDDEN DOOR..............

Hi Usaidit, still watching with great interest, not easy is it picking place lays at the top end of the market. I'm reluctant to interfer uninvited but if you are interested I do have a suggestion which might help you which was part of my place laying straegy and which saved me quite alot of lays going wrong. If you want my input indicate on here and I'll watch out for it. Good luck, Montie.

I've just been doing record keeping. Since you started your thread, and inc where I've continued to place lay, my ROI after comm (5%) is a rather dissapointing 3.2%. Suppose I should be grateful for any profit, but it's hard work.

Are you up to anything interesting on systems/strategies ?

All suggestions will be taken on board Montie.

He certainly needs some help imo.

Hi PHS, I'm trading at the moment with a successful strategy I've developed but it has to be kept private because even 2 or 3 people doing it would reduce its effectiveness.

Hi Usaidit, when I was place laying, after I had found a horse which met my criteria the final check I made in the last 15 minutes before the off was to watch the bookmakers win odds and if they move in sgnnificantly I abandonded the lay, the the odds stayed about the same or went out the lay went ahead. The odds movement in the last 15 minutes seems to be a pretty good indicator of what the clever money is expecting of the horse. You probably remember the number of times I called off a lay just before the off and saved many a lay going wrong.
