I like so many people that type on these forums would love to become a "Professional Gambler" and make this their full-time job.
Even if it makes a regular steady profit, im sure most people would prefer this rather than having to work the same old tedious 9-5 job, answering to their superiors on a daily basis, suffering those long motorway drives to work etc.

I have read so many ideas of what people interpret as the skills required by professional gamblers and would like to use this thread to comment on some things that i have recently read in a e-book i downloaded a while ago.

Weare all different in the ways we bet, whether we back or lay, follow horses or football, find value or dont, use 1% of our bank or 10% of your bank per bet, is there really anybody that can say with all honesty that whether you do one, or the other of the above you are destined to be a success. I for one believe that a gambler/ trader will each have their own abilities and the success lies in the development of their so called "system" to enable them to pick more winners than losers.

Take this as an example- 2 gamblers are given the same bankroll and use their own techniques, come back a month later and one gambler would of made 20% profit where the other made a 30% loss, it is amazing how 2 people can be given the same opportunities in life but get so many different results.

Some things that i want to note on this thread, so i can continuously read over and absorb my thoughts are:

- All gamblers have good and bad days, some days youll make profits and some you will lose profits and once or twice a month you will maje obscene profits, they all count towards your eventual target.
- Gambling/ Trading is all about managaing risk and then surrendering yourself to the oldest law in the univers: The ancient law of probability.
- Think "percentage of bank", think "average risk-to-reward ratio", think "potential profit versus maximum points risked".
- Become your own mentor, watch how you're behaving during the session. Be careful to note down your feelings.
-Alter your words, change "loss" to "expense", alter "win" to "profit", changing your words and treating it like a business will help you to develop your ability and especially help to increase your bankroll.
- Take it easy, "Rme wasnt built in a day" Dont gamble 24 hours a day, accumulate your profits over time. And you will make more by doing less.
-The fact is, gambling has to be about one thing... making a profit
- Write down your thoughts and read them back at the end of the week, how did you feel when you backed unders in a game that saw 2 goals in the first 7minutes or when you layed an away team at odds of 10.0 that were 2-0 up in the first half. Make a note of why you placed the bet in the first place and stick to your plan religiously.

We all have different thoughts and feelings on what qualitites you need to make this job pay but very few can get it right.

We each have our own areas of strength and all have our areas of weakness its how we merge these that can make us a true profit maker.

Just a few thoughts i have had and hopefully with a few comments from others can help me achieve my dream and make this job pay in a way that i have never even dreamed to be possible! :-)

After a short while of trying to put bread and butter on the table you will be begging to get that 9-5 job back. Don't even think about it unless you already make mega bucks part time.

You have to be a different type of person to 99% of others to ever have a chance of making this game pay. We are a different race ;)

reeckon if i had a risk free 50k since this season started i would be a millionair now , its the risk factor that makes this game hard , it is the risk and greed factor that brings everyone down

confidence is a massive part, if you are a doom and gloom merchant then forget it, you need good karma to be a pro punter imo

I was full time for a few weeks when I lost my job a while ago, no fun whatsoever when you need the next bet to pay the mortgage believe be it's not what it made out to be. Unless your already making in enough to live on part time you've got no chance (I reckon you need double a normal salary to be safe and cover losing runs). I did manage to make enough to pay the bills but it's no fun!!

good comments, by all means i would not jump into this full time without having at least the financial backing of one years worth of salary, so approximately £18000, that way i would be able to give myself £1500 per month and always, hopefully be 12 months in "advance".

I would also need a bank roll of approximately 10k (suing 4 banks of 2.5k) as a back up.

Id also be looking to pay off a 4.5k debt that i have so i dont have that hanging over my head also!!

So, all in all im looking for just over 30k to commence with, still a long way away at the moment!!!

it's not that difficult, the exchanges have opened up a whole new world for 'gamblers', punters desperation to part with their money has never been more evident, good luck

Tosh. All you need is a proven method of making money. If you don't have that then all you will do is give £30k to betfair and other punters.
By:

proven method

I have one of these though Alex so am i possibly in with a chance?

Actually, id go as far to say that i have maybe 3 proven methods that i have been following for some time now..

biggest advice I can give is to do it all on paper first, dont risk a bean until your systems are bulletproof

Paper?

Quote:
His second asked him, "Are you a good shot?" "Well," said the duelist, "I can snap the stem of a wineglass at twenty paces," and he looked modest. "That's all very well," said the unimpressed second. "But can you snap the stem of the wineglass while the wineglass is pointing a loaded pistol straight at your heart?"

If your main betting activity is football then why not do bot: a 9-5 job and betting? Double income.

LOL- certainly hope your right shrewd!!

The 2.5k already withdrawn has helped me pay of a car debt, just another 4.5k to ensure i can wipe away all my current credit!!

Betfairy, wouldnt have the first clue on how to set up a bot, plus alot of my betting is done whilst im actually watching the match in-play so not sure whether this would be able to achieve what i would want it to achieve.

open up as many bookies accounts as you can, take advantage of as many intro offers as possible, use free bets wisely, take advantage of daily bookie promotions or cashbacks, minimum or no risk betting wherever possible.

build up your bank in this manner whilst you are learning the ropes, most of these avenues will be closed once they have wised up to you, hopefully at this time your knowledge of betting will be good and time to take other BF punters to the cleaners

Now about proven methods. It is one thing thinking that you have a proven method and another proving it without doubt using the wineglasses at dawn anaolgy. If you do have a proven method then you ought to be able to put conservative projections into your numbers and you would not need to consider relying on your £30k bank to fund outgoings.

Never a truer word said Alex. That is the ultimate key imo to being successful at this game long term. Without that you are p*ssing in the wind my friend so what you really need is someone to tell you their methods/system and implement it to the letter and watch the bucks roll in. That fortunately happened to me 4 years ago next month. I just broke through £250,000 last month (not gloating but thanks for the applause in advance) since starting. I only do it part time (although somedays it feels like a full time occupation) however I went self employed 10 months ago as it was getting in the way of my job at the time. My new business venture fits perfectly around my betting now.
My advice to you.......................find that system, because unless you are extremely lucky or have a very kind friend who can walk you through it, it ain't gonna find you! Good luck.

Wineglasses at dawn also depends on how you bet. I don't shoot wineglasses, I tend to sneak up and steal them while the seconds backs are turned. Much easier.

Love to TOTGA, but my system is very valuable to me and not for sharing. Its totally bulletproof, only one losing moth in that time which was last August and was £152 down.
I'm constantly on the lookout for another system but haven't seen anything that comes close yet. i am 110% sure that there are a multitude of successful systems out there being implemented every day, making people some serious money but its finding them that is the key!!
When you have a working system it will make you a believer that others exist.

Some good posts here, especially Alex at 14;38 which I totally endorse. There are winning systems and trademark appears to have found one. He is also correct in saying, if he has found one, there must be more. Many have tried it, trouble is those who have failed don't come on here and put their hand up, and there are those who pretend, but won't admit failure. One or two names spring to mind, posted on this thread too. Good luck TOTGA.
