You don't really want to qualify in 3rd place either as you're guaranteed to play a Group Winner in the next round, which for Scotland would mean either Mexico in the Azteca, France or Norway, or Germany.
They're screwed whichever way you look at it, they had to finish above Morocco in this group. |

Scotland would be absolutely thrilled to qualify in 3rd place, given that they have never got out of a group before.
The Last 32 is the Holy Grail, they are not plotting a path to the final.  |

Their biggest problem is they cannot score a goal at all at this level. The opponent has to score an OG for them.
I know "McGinn scored" against Haiti, but it was a clear own goal, regardless of stupid definitions introduced in recent years. Deliberate touches by defenders were always OGs in football. The "McTominay goal" v Switzerland in the Euros was exactly the same. The shots are not "going in" if the goalie is about to save them with his little finger, before a defender inexplicably smashes it into the net. |

Lyndon Dykes would do more up top than Che Adams. Morocco are a team who sit back on a 1-0, may as well take a bit of risk against them. Brazil will go for 2 or 3 at 1-0.

Their overriding memory from this World Cup could be
tepid win v Haiti who most people could not point out on a map lost v Morocco and Brazil with no shots on target walloped in the round of 32 by a cricket score. That said, there's no other sport like football where you can completely dominate for the entirety of the event and still not win, by conceding a last second equaliser so this game's not done yet. They have been given the short straw with the group, World Cup semi finalists last time out and one of the tournament favourites in Brazil. They're higher ranked than Qatar and Bosnia who have themselves, the Swiss and Canada. Or South Africa with Korea and the Czechs. |

They do not know how to generate attacks, they've hit so many long balls this match as well once they realised they couldn't string 5-6 passes together past the half way line.

They've changed the tie-breakers from GD to H2H record, so eg in Mexico's group, the Czech's will likely face a weak Mexico team in the last game as Mexico can't be caught. That will happen in a few more group and could be a handy 3 points purely from playing the top team last. Not good for Scotland on 3 points and negative goal diff. Even in the quals for this WC it was GD then H2H but they changed it before these finals.
