I remember Mbappe saying South American qualifying was easier than European qualifying, don't know what that mug was smoking but South American qualifying is the toughest by far, everyone plays everyone, away games really are away games due to long distance travel, poorer fans not being able to go either because of that or lack of direct flights, style of play is generally incredibly stodgy, most teams barely conceded a goal a game and park 3 busses across the goal, there were seventeen 0-0 draws in qualies, twenty four 1-0 wins, Ecuador conceded 5 in 18 games, then there's the conditions such as playing at altitude in Quito along with the heat and humidity in other parts of the continent. Top players mostly European bases so have long haul flights there and back.
The only easy thing about it is the number of places up for grabs, if you're Brazil or Argentina, you are always going to qualify. Italy could potentially miss out of their 3rd World Cup in a row. Europe still far easier though in terms of the quality of teams you face, there's no tin pot nations like Andorra, Liechtenstein or a fleck on the map like San Marino down in South America. The record for squeezing the most amount of people into a phone box is 25 set in South Africa in the late 50's, which coincidentally is probably around the same number of registered footballs that there are in Gibraltar, so for Croatia to only beat them 3-0 is a national embarrassment. There are more monkeys there than footballers FFS. Kind Regards. |

The Falkland islands could apply for south American quallies.
Suriname and Guyana and French Guiana are South American but play in a different confederation Gibraltar have a built in advantage, lol, as spain refuse to play them. |

The Guianas, as that whole regions is called that encompasses the three nations, are culturally Caribbean and don't considered themselves South American, even if geographically they are, same with Falkland Islands, though imagine the fuss kicked up in Argentina if 'Las Malvinas' to them, actually established a recognised FIFA football team, the latest Argie government that's already in trouble, will no doubt pull on nationalist heartstrings to gain popularity and say we're going back in, we'd have to send the subs back down to teach them a lesson again. Wales need a win tonight otherwise Belgium will win the group with their two fixtures left, if Wales win they have Liechtenstein away and Macedonia at home, likely they'll get a play off spot. Kind Regards.

I wasn't impressed by Wales v engerland, but maybe they turned up expecting a friendly and engerland expected a derby and were up for it from the start. Belgium way too erratic to be confident about though. And norf Macedonia are right in the mix too for qualifying. |

Wales are all but guaranteed a play off spot regardless through their NL ranking, as are North Macedonia for that matter. Moldova and San Marino could easily get a play off spot through their NL rankings even though both are pointless in qualifying.

Wales Romania Sweden North Macedonia Northern Ireland Moldova San Marino Serbia Hungary Israel Obviously only one of Wales and Macedonia can take a place, so N Ireland almost guaranteed. If Romania Sweden or Northern Ireland finish top 2 then Moldova will get a spot, if two of them finish top2 then San Marino will get a spot. If all three get T2 then Serbia get a spot. If Serbia finish top 2 too then Hungary would get a spot. And if Hungary get a spot too, then Israel would get the final spot |

Obviously in Wales interest to finish top 2 as they could then play San Marino or Moldova in the play offs. The draw will be based on FIFA rankings after qualifying. Currently it's in this order ...

Germany are beatable, but N Ireland had a great result against a very disappointing Slovakia who could've made Andorra look good they were that bad. N Ireland can make it difficult for Germany, but the Germans should have enough. 1-2 would be my guess.

The way Wales have started is reminiscent of how Newcastle started against Barca, went full throttle first 15 minutes but couldn't find a goal, sat back into shape to draw breath then did the exact same thing second half, a good tactic against a superior opposition, this time Wales have actually scored so let's see if they can actually go for a second because if they sit back for the whole match now they're screwed.
