Villa have had their keeper bring a player down in the box, have blocked an on target shot with an outstretched hand and have had an assist with a handball and the result of which they have had no penalties against and had a goal awarded.....go figureConfused

crazy decision, should bbe pen and red card, the fact that he had to look at it 10 times proves the touch it wasn't clear and obvious.....total nuts.

Howard Webb is somewhere in the country sinking into another depression, yet another VAR controversy he's going to have to come out and apologise for

looked like a pen at first view, but Gyokeres was too theatrical with the dive, and he had lost control of the bal, tricky one. as an unders backer I'll say the decision was right. Devil

Isn't the law that it's no foul if the challenge gets the ball, irrelevant of future contact on the player they're challenging in the same motion ? That's my understanding in which case it's no penalty

if there was no foul why did he stop the game surely play on and then var gets involved they changing rules every game ffs

Even if you judge that pope touched the ball he still fouled the player and prevented him from chasing the ball down, two penalties.

Gyokeres crashed into him he wasn’t fouled

Pope stopped Gykores's run and had no chance to make contact with the ball, even if he did make contact that was ball to foot rather than the way round. Stockley Park mugs sitting there in their Liverpool jerseys.

Law 12 – Fouls and Misconduct states that a tackle is fair if:

1. The player plays the ball first, or

2. They get a clear touch on the ball while making a challenge.

A foul occurs if the tackle is careless, reckless, or uses excessive force, regardless of whether the ball is touched.

so it was a definite pen then going by Law 12.

The ref thought there was a foul as probably didn't see the touch or still deemed it carless/reckless and then was dissuaded in discussions or with the slow mo

It's a grey area I think

Does Pope get a clear touch ? He touches it but it's not a hugely effective touch

Is the tackle careless or reckless ? I don't think so. Keeper is making a fair effort to get the ball which he does get a touch on

I personally find it a bit ambiguous so it's a hard call. I would say no penalty personally as it's a fair tackle and he contacts the ball first

i must say I struggle to see the touch, but it wasn't a terrible challenge either, Gyokeres showing his lack of prem experience, You need to make your dives more convincing.

Based on what I've seen so far, doesn't look like we'll concede, WolterMitty looks like a massive downgrade on Isak, he doesn't have the same pace or dynamic movement.
