If I was Newcastle I'd just dig in now and say he's not for sale.
They've missed their first choice replacement and will just end up overpaying for someone substandard now as selling clubs will smell the desperation a mile off. Best tack for me is to tell him he's missed the chance unless Liverpool pay £150M (they won't). He'll come back into the fold. Then simply work hard on having a good season. Another top four place and maybe a good CL run, alongside not many takers at the stupid prices, might just see him commit his future. Newcastle need to keep the likes of him and add to him if they're gonna break through. If they sell they're telling the world they know their ceiling and are little more than a stepping stone for top players. (Obviously if they want to sell for £70m that's fine too) |

If Isak goes then every subsequent Isak will go too, that's if they are lucky enough to get one, if Gordon had had a decent season last time he'd be in the same boat now, but he didn't so he's not wanted.

and Hall and Gordon and elanga and Barnes and Joelinton and Botman because if you increase Isak to 200k a week it's going to cost club to increase all those tied to top earners. They can't afford to not sell players if they want to reach promised land in 20 years time. |

Even if Newcastle were able to give him the money Liverpool can I reckon he'd still want to go, because of where a club like Liverpool sits in the player's consciousness....and aside from the monery that is what Newcastle are fighting against and that will take forever and a day to conquer.
It's very easy for fans to kid themselves it's just about the wages because it helps them to accept it and not take it as a personal sleight against their team...."Oh well, if we could offer the same money, so and so would stay, can't blame them for leaving" Far more palatable to believe that than what is often an uncomfortable truth that the other club is the bigger, sexier, dare I say it, better club!!!! and the players will play on, it's just about the money as an easy out. |

His agent wanted a new contract as promised, but it's not possible to pay the money. So he's touted Isak to firstly arsenal and now Liverpool and man utd. |

he was promised a revised contract I guess (verbally) not X amount...it's meaningless until a negotiation starts in earnest..
Utd and Mainoo (though obvs less high profile) have vague agreements about a new contract in due course.. |

Nature of #NUFC’s rebuttal means Liverpool will NOT follow up with a second offer. Regarded as futile unless Newcastle change their stance and contact Liverpool. Offer rejected was £110m. Terms with Isak not a problem. Dunno how he would know and if he's trustworthy on Liverpool. |

Neither Isak nor Newcastle are stupid, so regardless of how it was delivered, both sides surely would have known it was unachievable as there would have been no way to make the numbers add up.

you back up a 25 goal season with a 27 goal season..your value and therefore wage potential increases massively...at worst it kept him playing well for the club.. wouldn't be the first daft player to believe a club's verbal commitments.. |

Aside, from the bigger picture here on PSR and where Newcastle want to be....the actual price, north of 100 seems too much for him, he's definitely got an injury question mark, is not the biggest guy, all things being equal, Liverpool would be over-paying...United would be getting questioned for paying that IMO even if they could.

I do not think Isak is worth £110m+. I hope Liverpool will walk away from this player. He may be young, but far too expensive for someone of his ability.

On age and goals in PL he's worth 100m absolute minimum in modern market...with 3 years left
we had a thread about him last Jan (I think) I rightly was corrected when I suggested it would take 90m minimum...seeing market now it's a 110-120m player at true price - add 10% if you want him badly and have the cash/club situ to be aggressive do market conditions and injury question mark (which is there but shouldn't be over stated, he misses a few games to this point) put you off ?.. up to you.. |
