I think the bigger deal is for the midfielder. If he is really good (and he may well be) then it should allow Rice to be a proper box to box player and also support Odegaard who suffered a real dip last season. But I reckon Arsenal will improve next season. They've identified areas of weakness and addressed them. I wonder if they're kicking themselves at Isak's availability as they were signing someone not as good, but Gyok looks like someone who'll do a good job even if he might not be truly top class. I think it'll be the same top 2 slugging it out though.

With Kai Havertz picking up another long-term injury, timing was right for Eberechi Eze to come to his senses and join the best club in London. I think Arsenal have everything in place now with 3 very good youngsters bashing the doors down. I am not sure they are the best team or going to be a dominant side but they have balance and depth so are equipped to challenge.

I am nit really in favour of changing managers. I am nit a fan of Arteta but do you really think bringing in a new manager will guarantee a title? What if Liverpool get Guehi and Isak?

I think Liverpool and Man City will be very hard to beat this season, both have strengthened well. Liverpool were relentless last year finishing games so strongly, despite looking vulnerable in many games. I'm hoping Arsenal can have another excellent CL run. As a business Arsenal have been posting losses during the 2020's but not huge overall and team in much better shape than in 2020. I think Chelsea spent more in one season that Arteta has amassed in transfersLaugh

You might be right and it is up to players to develop that winning mentality.

I don’t even like Arsenal’s style of play. It is soo predictable. I mean they have good players but nothing excites and will the young guns be stifled by don’t lose the ball mentality. I hope Eze shows them the way.

It's now or never for Arteta. I think they're now a decent bet for the title as they've pretty much fixed the issues from last season in the market. The only question is if they're good enough. Gyokeres hasn't exactly set the world on fire and some are already questioning the midfielder's suitability. But it's still very early days. My big change I'd make would be to give the armband to Rice. It would put Odegaard's nose out of joint but he's been garbage for six months or so and should just be told to regain his form.

If arsenal don’t win the league or champions league this season Arteta will be sacked!!

They’ve got the highest values squad bar Real Madrid in world football, they’ve blown nett spend out of the water again of all their rivals.

They’ve got all their targets in, they was in the words of their manager the best team in the champions league last season, they’ve finished runners up 3 times in the league, this is the best assembled team the manager has had.

If they don’t deliver Arteta a trophy this season that is fit for the outlay they’ve had, then it will go down in history as the biggest master in failure in the history of the game. This is 6yrs in the making and 1.1 billion outlay to get that elusive trophy. That spend with minimal recoup has blown every other team out of the water, yet Chelsea, United, Liverpool, Man City and spurs have won more major trophies than arsenal in that time.

If Arteta doesn’t deliver then he has to be regarded as the worse manager of all time!! To coin the phase of Jose Mourinho to Arsene “his a master in failure”

Arteta will be that guy… because there hasn’t been one manager in the history of the game whom has been given over 5yrs and the biggest outlay in world football and not delivered a single major honour then this fraud.

No pressure but he could end up making you the biggest laughing stock’s of all time.

Everything is in place now…. There is no excuses or hiding places that he can have. I have a feeling under this pressure we may well see the grotesque emotional mess on the touchline a few times this season. I just hope that we get to see the crying sounding voice in the changing room being broadcasted under this new insight sky are showing…. Meme city coming up

You're being disingenuous. Spurs' wage bill is vastly lower that other traditional top six teams.

If you again go back to the Deloitte (Money League) report; if you ranked all the Premier League teams by wage spending, Tottenham, who used to be very close to Arsenal, are now more than £100million a year behind Arsenal. Aston Villa are ahead of Spurs and I wouldn’t be surprised if next time Newcastle United are ahead of Spurs as well. All of a sudden, the idea of a ‘Big Six’ wage spending bill doesn’t really exist. It’s kind of a ‘Big Five’… and then you’ve got Tottenham, Villa and Newcastle. And I don’t think next year Spurs would necessarily be top of that group of three, so clearly it’s a big gap that has to be made up if you want to be competitive.

Report sofaking August 22, 2025 5:06 PM BST

Tottenham Hotspur's wage bill is the lowest among the wealthiest clubs in Europe, with a wage-to-turnover ratio of 42 per cent, according to Swiss Ramble, a major authority on football finance.
This ratio is the lowest in the list of Money League clubs, with AC Milan and Real Madrid following closely at 47 per cent and 48 per cent respectively.
This financial approach has resulted in Tottenham having the lowest squad cost in the Premier League, with just two-thirds of their revenue spent on wages and amortisation.
In the 2024/25 season, Tottenham's wage bill was estimated at £110.7 million, placing them seventh in the Premier League, significantly behind clubs like Manchester City, Arsenal, and Manchester United.
For the upcoming 2025-2026 season, the estimated wage bill is £99.9 million.
This low wage bill is attributed to a strict wage structure, a focus on financial sustainability under chairman Daniel Levy, and the replacement of high-earning players with younger, less expensive talent.
While this strategy has kept the club financially stable, it has led to fan frustration and concerns that the club is falling behind its rivals in terms of on-pitch ambition and competitiveness.

If Eze is added to play on the left then more or less
Arteta has fixed the problems, or weaknesses, or areas that might be strengthened, that
were pointed out at end of 23/24 season.

A season, last season to recover from exertions

So a good chance to compete this season.

Finishing second to man city was a decent effort,
probably better effort than they were given credit for.

Might be unlucky to find city had improved too

Chuck in champions Liverpool who have also strengthened
and it's a great title to win.

Fa cup was Emery team

Arsenal have spent 1.1 billion on players once Eze is confirmed. The Nett spend is 900m and he hasn’t delivered a trophy since spending big.

No other manager has had 5yrs to develop his squad and not won a trophy.

As I said before

He has to win it now or he goes down as the biggest choker in the history of the premier league era. He has been backed more than any other manager ever and failed to delivery if he doesn’t manage it this season.

Arsenal fans don’t have faith because they’re all deflecting with excuses. The facts are he has been given time to develop this project he has been backed to a billion pounds and if he doesn’t get champions league or premier league he is a master in failure. There is no other statement then that

Do or be the meme for life.

Don’t want to hear city this, Liverpool that.

Get the job done or be renowned for eternity as the biggest failure in football ever.

Those are the facts. No other coach / manager has had the luxury Arteta has been given.

Yes chelae and City and liverpool have spent big as well, but they’ve delivered. ETH delivered more with United for a big outlay.

Arsenal have a higher net spend than city in that time since Arteta first full season and transfer windows and they’ve won a trophy on their return for every 80 or 90 million spent. Arteta if u count the Fa cup when he took over the team is 1 billion for one trophy!! He can amend that by delivering this season, but if he doesn’t then like it or not WD he is stats wise the biggest failure as a coach in football.

No pressure Arteta!! Do or boom for his career and the media is already geared up for the pressure cooker!! The man won’t be able to stay in his technical area

Be interesting to see if Liverpool can continue playing carp and still somehow grinding out results. Has to have been one of the luckiest wins I've seen recently. Comprehensively outplayed until goal completely against run of play and then even with Gordon getting sent off after his braindead tackle and going 0:2 down, once Howe had recomposed them, they were the better team in the 2nd half with only 10 men. Until Liverpool sucker punched them in the 10min of added time. Can't help feeling that eventually Liverpool will pay the price, if they don't start playing better. Apparently, the ball was in play for ~40min despite the match lasting ~111mins, a record low going back to 2010.
