If Liverpool fans are serious in disputing the fact that Real Madrid are, and since the inception of the European Cup in the sixties have been, a bigger club than theirs then they need to get real.  No pun intended.  What Liverpool have achieved in Europe is brilliant and they should be rightly proud but they will never be a “bigger” club than Real.

never say never LH.. RM are of course funded and continually bailed out finanacially by the city of Madrid and therefore have always had an edge in that area.

I can understand that.  They do have that I agree which gives them a huge advantage.  But money now does throughout football, through every level, which is my point really.
I was brought up on a diet of Liverpool, Shankly, Paisley and all of that brilliance, recently emulated by Klopp etc;
Unforgettable stuff but in terms of something I can’t really explain Real are at the top of the pyramid for me.

It is, as ever, all about opinions.  I don’t know all of the right backs in the world, but I know the English ones, and he certainly has for me always been better than Walker.

Indeed you might have played walker and Trent as right side of a 5 and might get
best from both of them.

They may be the biggest in the world historically but they are  basket case who at best (without the constant help of refs whatever their idiot fans think) would be a mid table side in pretty much any other league in Europe atm. If they turn things around it poss might be all down to TAA!

Ok - right side of a five - I’ll take your word.  Personally what I want a right back to do is defend effectively first, second and third, and above all, to keep or get goalside of his opponent as required.
Read the game, complement your defensive mates and make feel secure at all times.
Attacking can wait for when it is required, if at all.

I think the game has moved on from that LH. The game is all about wide players playing on the wrong side and coming in to shoot with their favoured foot.

If you look at Klopp's great team, it was the midfield's job to be auxiliary defenders. They would spread wide and provide a shield to break up attacks as they were starting. This allowed Trent and Robbo to get ahead of them and provide the width that the wingers no longer give.

The game is all about control of the midfield with wingers coming in to find gaps, false nines dragging centre backs around etc. Having a Carragher at right back might well come back into fashion at some point, but the likes of Klopp wouldn't be a fan of it.

"Best" meaning most virtuous? Forest Green Rovers.

"Biggest" probably Rangers. But there is an argument for Leeds, which has the undivided support of its city.

Probably. And playing for a domestic team would certainly enhance his England claims. But..

Plus, Liverpool don't play much football beyond aiming for a set-play.
