Agyemang really a rarity. A striker who plays for Arsenal.

You have to grow as a girl being pushed to your very limit. You grow to a completely different athlete then.
Then being pushed by teammates, opponents and players looking to take your place if you have a bad game, all the way up.
None of these women had any of that and many still never have even now.

They may well do dragon, as from start of thread, but it's been a fun ride getting there.

Great to watch the competitivity of the lionesses, which is surely their greatest asset
By:
lurka
When: 22 Jul 25 23:06
Competitive because they're defending poorly nearly every game and relying on a big squad to bail them out late.
They will play more like Italy tonight against Spain (if them) in the final. Might actually suit them better but Spain already odds on for the whole thing.
By:

They've got very few positives
going into final as neither wing
is functioning, we get too few
into box, are out thought in midfield,
and have defended poorly.

But are in there swinging, might
well get stuffed, but got there.

Spain aren't there yet, they could be playing Germany in the final.

Germany keeps playing with a woman sent down after 15 minutes and another woman injured after 30 minutes.

Exactly. Plus Spain aren't so compact and defensive, so England can hopefully play to their attacking potential.

Not a team in the world Spain are compact and defensive against, so that's a non sequitur

Who says lightning never strikes twice in the same place? It happened with England's women's team last night. The £64k question is will it strike a 3rd time in the same place for England? I hope so, even though it might not be likely (again); 2/1 England to win The Euros again.

Our coverage of England v Italy on Tuesday night was watched by a peak of 10.2 million across all devices, giving ITV1 and ITVX its biggest peak audience of 2025

So if it's a Spain v England final, what price Spain to lift the trophy?

Around the 1.4 mark would be my guess.
By:
----you-have-to-laugh---
When: 23 Jul 25 17:22
Spain are 1.71 to win euros, 1.27 to qualify for final

Assuming they don't pick up loads of injuries red cards etc

Implies 1.35 to lift trophy

Had no idea til today that this'll be England's 4th European final, though it was their second, wiki says the 84 final loss to Sweden in the 2nd leg match at Kenilworth Road was only watched by 2567 people...WTF, the 09 loss to Germany, held in Finland, was watched by 15,877 people, the win 3 years ago at Wembley was watched by 87,192 people.

Good job they didn't book Wembley in 84 it'd have been a bit echoey. I bet it wasn't even shown on TV, don't even remember the 09 game shown on TV. Come a long way.

Kind Regards.

Spain are a bit short, but they should qualify. Germany did extremely well in the game against France and put in a lot of effort, but I think France beat themselves. They were naive and lacked discipline. If they had been more intelligent in their movement, more precise in their passing and shown more composure in the final 3rd they could have won easily. Spain's movement off the ball, passing and ball control are better than France, and they're not likely to make the same mistakes.
Mind you I've been wrong a few times. So, feck knows. Grin
2-0 Spain for me.

i agree with your assessment Des, the Germans like England have rode their luck so far and had plenty of it. Spain will be a diff kettle of fish and i think and hope they will win.

Say, does anyone know which England player patted Laura Giuliani on the shoulder between corners during a period of heavy England pressure? Chloe Kelly had just elicited a wonderful save direct from a corner and was trotting to take one from the other flag.

I thought it was a very touching, sporting gesture; caught on live tv but missed by the ITV commentators. Hardly surprising, the female pundit didn't even know on second or third viewing whether the penalty-taker had followed up for the goal that put England into the finals ("who cares").

Nobody on the Spanish team mouthing their national anthem!

Only last night's unlucky Italian squad mouthed their anthem with gusto. Lauren James looked like she should be on Crimewatch.
