the way this shootout has gone how can it be fair that the team shooting second has to score to stay in

just shows what you can do if you keep your shot on target. at least do that then youve got a chance

credit to Germany they well deserved to go through

When: 19 Jul 25 23:00
germany were never under that pressure with the way the shootout went and that cant be fair. every time they stepped up towards the end they werent losing if they missed

yes des germany deserved it. france were hopeless and were always taking a chance if they couldnt find a way past ten men with three quarters of the match plus extra time to do it

keeper did well, but Brand deserves plaudits for the way she played, and the work she put in.

The Germans were prepared for penalties, keeper had done her research ,and xzn bet they'd practised pens. French pundit said, France didn't bother practising pens ,why wouldn't you ?

Going England and -1 again.

Hoping for third time lucky on this bet.

Spain should have beaten Swiss -2, missed 2 penalties and France were in such a good position for France and -1. It happens.

I think Italy are a revelation but punching. I would like to see England be cold and cruel tonight and destroy them in the first half. Italy defend well centrally and hit hard and fast on the break where we are vulnerable

Sweden was an incredible test and we were lucky. This ought to be easier….. lest we forget!

Good luck, Whispering. Cup games like this are never easy and I think England are very short. I would like to back them on the draw no bet market but not at 1.25. The added risk of the main market makes 1.63 unappetising so I'm giving it a miss as things stand. I will look again nearer the time.
In the champions league qualifiers Copenhagen should overwhelm Drita so I may have a punt on AOHW. I will wait and see how that price evolves up to kick off time.

Thanks Foinavon.

Am pretty confident for both bets to come in. Going to avoid European matches for now.

One thing I am looking at is first games of the season to see if we have local knowledge over the bookies. I think my home town team Gillingham might be contenders this year and start fast. Will do a little research and report back. It would be good if others did the same. There are also teams in financial trouble who may have sold their best players

I'm surprised by how big a price England are myself considering they have a full squad available.  When they met on neutral territory last year England were 1/3 and beat them 5-1.  I backed Italy between 70 and 110 on here before the Italy v Spain match and laid off (and more) mostly at 55 before the Norway match as I'd expected them to be slight faves for that.  55 was obviously too big as I had them bigger than they are to knock out England.  They seem to have improved since they last played England but they've had very poor opponents bar Spain and there is a big gulf in class between the top women's teams and the second tier, so we'll wait and see how those performances stack up tonight.  They were decent against Spain in the 3-1 defeat, but that was a dead rubber.  If I was having a bet AOH would be my choice.

I have bad memories of Italy from the 2023 WWC.  I'd backed them to qualify in a group acca (every other team had obliged) and was in Vegas when they played South Africa.  I hadn't been impressed with Italy at all and wanted to back South Africa.  I think from memory RSA were 11/2 or 6/1 on the exchange.  But Betfair was not available obviously and they were something like a point or a point and a half worse odds in Vegas.  I would have backed RSA if they were half a point or just over worse, but my head said the price difference was just too much.  Italy were awful in an end to end even game, despite the pre match prices, but had managed to level the scores on 74 minutes.  As the clocked ticked by I was thinking I'm going to get away with this.  Then South Africa scored a late winner in added time.  Sickening Cry.  The returns from the bet would've pretty much covered the cost of the Vegas holiday.

Thanks for your thoughts clydebank, AOH looks a decent price.

Whispering, Gillingham started well in both of the past two seasons. I seem to remember they were top for a while in 2023/24 before fading.
Notts County couldn't hold on the McGoldrick this summer and have signed Norburn from Blackpool on a free transfer. On paper that may look like a fair replacement but I believe he was laid up with an injury at the end of the season. Both goalkeepers have gone too. I'm not optimistic that they can repeat last season's performance. I've backed Bristol R, Salford and Col U for the title this season.
