Got to remmber he gets an eight-figure signing on fee in lieu of the transfer fee. That's what makes this move so attractive. Trent bags #£20M and Madrid get an £80M player for a quarter the cost.

Why does it matter that Trent wanted to leave on a free to enrich himself, he cost the club nothing, they got more out of him than vice versa, it's the clubs fault, they let their 3 best players run their contracts down so that they were then in the position of power, that's on them. Should have publicly let it be known that they had offered him a contract and he's turned it down, that then puts the pressure on him to either sign a new deal or agree to be sold so they could get something for him, to allow all 3 to potentially leave for nothing is just poor management by those above. But they don't really care about the money side of it do they, it has to be an ego thing, their star player moving to another big club when Liverpool at the top of their game, the whole 'he's mugged us of thing' is just a nonsense, he hasn't cost any fan a single penny, it's not their money.

club was very wary of committing to big bucks on declining talents, that's why VVD and Salah allowed to slide...in fact, they were initially in 2 minds whether to commit to Salah's last extension 2 yrs ago @ 31, as it went against there usually M.O. (boom boom)..this year's output from both has clearly changed their thinking but wrong to label it mismanagement

 Liverpool could have got millions for Salah and VVD 2 years ago but risked not doing so by allowing them to run their contracts down, even at their ages could have easily have been flogged to Saudi at least. Whatever they put into Trent as a homegrown player, they got more out of him as a player, that assist alone against Barcelona and helping them get to the final gave them a few extra million. They would have had no idea they'd have gone on to win the league at all, to think they deliberately played it like that is laughable considering they were even favs to the win the league, that's not how top clubs operate, they much more often than not operate as proper businesses, if they feel they're going to lose millions in player re-sales when a player is nearing the end of their contract, they sell. To have all 3 running down their contracts is shoddy management, the different in 'total payment' for finishing 1st or 2nd is negligible especially when compared to the excess millions they'd have go for selling, they missed out so that's by the by anyway in a financial sense. More than likely they allowed VVD and Salah to run down their contracts because they were expecting and wanting to sell them in a rebuild, the fact that they have now won the league and how momentum has swung toward the players they have been backed into a corner and have been forced to give them new deals, both these players we can expect to see regress from now on leaving the club in a position they worried about being in.

mesmerised , football contracts are on a completely different level to other jobs. He could've signed a contract so he had some worth to the club who've made him a very rich man and Real could've paid a fee. He just wants to pocket the lot.

I talk more sense than you'll ever talk you silly tart, he owes Liverpool nothing, he gave them everything already and then some, cost the club buttons in terms of player development given he went on to help them earn millions with the success they've had, and you're crying about him leaving on a free, as if it means anything to the fans who are not out of pocket, it's the club fault for allowing their employee under contract to have his value depreciate as each month ticked by til it expired allowing him to leave on a free. The onus is on the club not the player, all he done was honour his contract. Probably too simple for you to understand. Kind Regards

Trent free to do as he pleases but at his last contract extension he could have had certain clauses about release to certain named clubs for a relatively moderate fee to give him freedom of movement without L'pool losing a massive asset on a free..
it splits opinion..football isn't a normal job at the top level with the sums involved..clearly the L'pool fanbase even among attendees was very split (some respecting the decision others not) ..always dangerous to overplay the local lad card (means more etc) and then not show any real respect to it.. |

I don't think the club themselves are overly upset. They know the score. We've picked up a few good players on the cheap. We're even in the auction for Wirtz now. That's football. So the heads in the boardroom will know and understand.
But this is about the fans and their reaction. I've covered this before, but it's simply just about emotions imo. The vast majority of us would do the same as Trent really. I know I would. But at the same time, I'd fully expect the fans to be pissed off and express it. You can't expect to string people along for two years and have them politely applaud you at the end. He'll get over it. The fans will get over it too. That's football. |

Well, I don't mean in the way Trent will be welcomed back with open arms in the future. He's blotted his copybook for sure. And if he joins Utd when he's clapped out that probably won't help either. But it'll all be fish and chip paper soon enough.
My big hope is he's removed from the squad for the next two games, particularly the last one. These are all about celebrating now. No need to have it spoiled by people wanting to boo someone. He's done now. Let's just go our separate ways. |
