Were Liverpool willing to sell him in the past couple of seasons or not and did he refuse?

Not being funny why is it greedy to want to live and ply your trade in Madrid?

I mean WhoTF wants to live in Liverpool?

he has lived there all his life. You get less for murder!

The problem isn't with the player it is with Madrid, the route they have cottoned on to is realizing that players they want and are nearing the end of their contract they can simply let the player know that they want him and are prepared to wait for him rather than getting him earlier for a fee, that's solely on Madrid realizing their strength and playing on it.

Unless you expect the player to turn round and tell Madrid a year or two back that unless they pay for him then and sign him he won't come then there is nothing more the player can do and even in that case if the player went then he still would have gotten booed.

it is of course illegal and all big clubs do it not just Madrid. Madrid just do it better and have found this ruse which is ashley quite clever if devious and underhand. For the record I spit of Madrid for being Franco's team ( although ) probably not their fault.

On Barcelona’s part, there is a story, also steeped in myth, which sums up the way they were perceived and treated by the regime. The story goes that, in 1943, after winning the first leg of a cup semi-final against Real Madrid 3-0, Barcelona’s players were paid a visit by one of Franco’s cronies, who reminded them that they were only allowed to play at all due to “the generosity of the regime”, and suggested in no uncertain terms that they ease off in the second leg.

Real Madrid went on to win that game 11-1, by far the biggest win in Clásico history. Again, it is difficult to ascertain the extent to which the story has been embellished, but it is hard to believe that such a scoreline could have come about entirely naturally. Aside from this, Barcelona were also – like Bilbao – forced to change their name and were ordered to remove the Catalan flag from their crest.

Against this backdrop of persecution

Most times dribbled past per 90 among defenders in the Premier League this season (1000+ mins):

◉ 2.12 - Trent Alexander-Arnold
◎ 1.50 - Ben White
◎ 1.50 - Victor Kristiansen
◎ 1.40 - Marcos Senesi
◎ 1.40 - Lewis Hall

Looking forward to him playing against Barcelona and Raphina next season. He got owned by Martinelli a few times. Hopefully he will not have to face Nico Williams next season!

If non Liverpool fans say they wouldn't boo a player especially a local player who runs their contract down so they can move free to another club then they are being disingenuous.

Players fancy moves for various reasons I get that.

But there is a way to do it. Suarez wanted to go to Barca so a deal was done where he signed a new contract, played for another year and got the transfer for £50m.

Harry Kane got his transfer, but signed contracts so Spurs still got a huge fee.

TAA has been quite sneaky, stringing fans all along this season with no intention of signing.

Martinelli should be owning more fullback to be fair.

We are in Madrid, taxi driver tells me they need to tighten their defence
and are signing Trent, my Spanish is not good enough to explain, and
I was laughing too much.

When: 13 May 25 17:46
Aspro, yeah I get that, it was probably the right move for him and you got a huge fee,

But what if he hadn't signed new contracts and ran it down so he left for free, and just strung the fans along for the final year re a new contract.

Think it would be different then.

Villa fans boo Grealish and he got them £100m.
By:
Aspro
When: 13 May 25 17:51
He almost did run it down. Surprised me he didn't hang it out for a free. Doubt many of us would have minded. Levy screwed him and we all knew it.

Besides, he was a gooner at heart. He was not "one of our own" Grin
By:
maleuk01.
When: 13 May 25 17:56
But he didn't.

He got the move he wanted and didn't screw over Spurs or the fans.

So fair play to him.

Fans boo a lot of ex players who have moved to clubs for huge transfer fees and moved to clubs with chances of winning Prem league and play Champions league football, even possibilities of winning it, which their current club can't offer.

Hence why I said there are a lot of disingenuous posts on here just trying to score points against Liverpool fans.

I don't think it's been mentioned yet but the booing stopped after a short while.

Nah!

Just enjoying slagging off scousers. It is a low class football thing in general a scouse disease in particular.

Aspro do you think Kane should still lead the England line? I am not sure. I think we need a new dynamic, energy and pace. I think he is good enough to still play for England though. I just think the team needs a new spearhead.

maleuk01,

but Madrid are refusing to pay a fee, they are happy to wait, so what is player supposed to do, refuse to sign unless they pay a fee, Trent hasn't run his contract down for money, if Madrid were willing to pay up and Liverpool happy to let him go he would have been over there already.

Madrid were happy to wait and Liverpool were guilty of not forcing the issue earlier in ring to get a fee for him.

Yeah, we need an alternative. I thought Watkins was ok. Good  movement.
By:
maleuk01.
When: 13 May 25 18:12
If Real Madrid really want him then course they would pay a fee if he is in contract.

Sign a contract, agreement if say £80m is offered it has to be accepted. If they wont pay it they don't really value him. As lots of other top European clubs would pay it.

I actually don't think it will work out at RM for him to be honest. The fans there can be really brutal. Jude Bellingham was booed at the weekend for a poor game.

Trent is known to make some big defensive blunders, one of those against Barca in an El Classico or a big champions league game and they will quickly turn against him.

Madrid know they are the one club that everyone wants to play for and can comb the market looking for players that are a year or two away from the end of their contract and simply tell those players, we want you and will take you at the end of your contract.

It is then down to their current club to force the issue earlier, let the world know what is going on, but unless the player wants to take the moral high ground and inform Madrid that unless they pay up early he won't be coming then there is little that can be done.

The likely truth is that Liverpool were happy to keep him for longer and it is also likely true that if you asked the fans what they would want, sell him two years ago and get a fee or let him go for free two years later there would be a massive amount of fans that would want him for longer and then let him go for nothing....you can't have it both ways.
By:
maleuk01.
When: 13 May 25 18:26
But Duffy TAA has known for prob 2 years what his plan was to move for nothing.

The club management are no idiots. They would have been trying to get him to sign a contract for that time period.

But if the player refuses there is nothing you can do.

Also he hasn't been open and honest with the fans, stringing them along all this time with the sole intention of walking on a free.

As mentioned you can always sign a new contract with clauses in if you want to. As mentioned Suarez did this, Harry Kane didn't run his contract down for a free move to Bayern Munich. There is an honourable way to do these things.

If Madrid really want a player then they will pay, they have to if in a long term contract. Especially if the fee is below true market value.

It is a lack of awareness by the "fans".
Almost all players have no connection to the city and you can extend that to say no connection to the club.
Fans are supporting professional athletes motivated by income just like they themselves go to work to earn income.

When: 14 May 25 14:19
To reiterate, the issue is with Madrid's approach, if they don't want to pay and they know the player wants to come and will come they know they can sit tight, what's the point of Trent signing a contract, what clause can you put in that will force Madrid to pay? there are none because the player won't allow a clause that forces some kind of payment because he doesn't want to jeopardize the move but you can't blame him for that.

Trent would have been happy to go and Liverpool to receive a fee but Madrid won't pay, the only way would be for the player to turn around and tell Madrid that unless they pay up he won't come but you need to be a Messi or Ronaldo for that to carry any weight.

Again, if the player wants to go and Madrid know they can wait, what can the player do to force them to pay?

Liverpool fans should think about all the years of service where he's contributed to winning many trophies and where they haven't had to fork out for a full back, all of that has a monetary value.

If Trent happened to be a bag of sh1te would Liverpool have put their arm around him when his deal ran out and said don't worry lad, here's another 2 year deal for you?
By:
PorcupineorPineapple
When: 14 May 25 15:12
I'd agree with most of that, but not sure Trent is quite so innocent.

Got to remmber he gets an eight-figure signing on fee in lieu of the transfer fee. That's what makes this move so attractive. Trent bags #£20M and Madrid get an £80M player for a quarter the cost.

I think to do with the booing, people are simply pissed off at him stringing the club and fans along. Mo and Virgil did the same but that was just a negotiating tactic to get the best deal, Trent will have known for probably two years that he was leaving but still acted as if he was talking to the club in good faith.

Fans feel like he's mugged them off.

His position was impossible, he knew he was going but also knew that Madrid wouldn't pay, again, what was he supposed to do, perhaps he should have said a couple of years back that he had no intention of signing a new deal, that may have focussed the minds on Madrid's and Liverpool's side of things but the problem he had was that he didn't want to pi55 Madrid off as he wants to play for them so he was in an awkward spot.

Liverpool could have been far more open about selling him but they didn't want the fans against them and gambled on the increasing pressure on the player would see him crack and stay.

When: 14 May 25 15:30
What would Liverpool fans have said a couple years back, go for a fee back then or go for free in 2 years....we all know the answer to that one.

The bottom line if the truth be known, is that nothing that has been discussed is "really" the issue here, the real issue is that the player is daring to leave the club....how dare he!!  IMOGrin
