CL betting market agrees. Inter Milan shorter after the Arsenal/PSG semi final than before. That's how I saw it. If I was them I'd prefer to play PSG.

Liverpool beat PSG once in the CL. Yes, but they were thoroughly outplayed in that match and 3-0 would have been a fairer result.
Villa started playing against PSG when they were 1-5 down on aggregate after PSG's full backs ran all the way up the pitch untracked and scored a goal each. They were also thoroughly outplayed in Paris but not quite as much as Liverpool were. Arteta said that the game was won in both boxes and Donnarumma was MOTM (Hakimi was given it in Paris). Arsenal created better chances than PSG in both legs but one or two of Arsenal's chances may have been ruled out by VAR if they were scored but they weren't reviewed because they were missed. They are still counted as Arsenal's chances. PSG created better chances than Villa and Pool in both legs. I don't believe Arteta believes Arsenal were the best team in the CL, outside of both boxes maybe, but he's not stupid. He is a very sore loser and those comments were made right after the match. He has always behaved like that in post-match interviews after losing. He shouldn't be saying things like that as it's embarrassing. Every dog in the street knows Arsenal are a very good side up to the final third and they need more firepower up top to win the top pots. Putting your chances away is the most important part of football and nobody was saving any of PSG's 3 goals. Liverpool got closest of the 3 to knocking PSG out but for some reason they let Nunez take a penalty. Literally the last player on earth you'd want taking a pen. |

Notwithstanding Arteta 1st class degree in moaning which is something else. By far the most people look at the result over performance. For me it's performance first, result second. As it is for the betting markets. Be great to go back 20+ years when it was less so. If there was a team that matched Arsenal's performances (in the CL) it was Barcelona. You can trash Arsenal's lack of a striker, but they actually had a higher XG in Paris than they had in Eindhoven when they won 7-1 and everything went in. Sometimes they go in and sometimes they don't. Luck plays such an important part in football and often the best team doesn't win. Results depend on an outcome that happens 2.5-3 times a match that have a high degree of randomness. It's not rugby where there are loads of scoring actions and the best team on the day nearly always wins. That's the beauty of football and why it's so popular. PSG couldn't score to save their lives at home to Liverpool, but score two beauties at home to Arsenal.

But xG v PSG isn't really that valuable a metric. The frogs were leading from the 4th minute of the 1st game, and doubled it within half an hour of the second. Things like that affect the set up and tactics. PSG didn't need to be offensive, and just sat back and tried to hit on the counter. Hence, Arsenal could have more chances than they might have thought. Exactly the same as how Villa beating them second leg isn't worth a second look. PSG were 5-1 up and just calmed down.
I'm all for stats and analysis, but you have to look at context and game state, otherwise your data is going to lead you wrong. |

Sure but Arsenal were several goals up against RM and PSV, and just kept creating chances and scoring. Context is important, but it's not an excuse. More relevant in the Villa game than the Arsenal game where a huge number of chances were at 1-0

arsenal ,s best chance came from the rice header the brilliant save was from a shot from , outside the box, PSG scored 2 ,hit woodwork and missed 2 one on ones in 1st half that were far better chances than rices header,PSG were in 2nd gear from the 4th min of the 1st game and never needed to get out of it because arena never even got back in it on the scoreboard let alone ever look like winning it, XG is a joke stat like shots on target compared to shots beating keeper all ends up but hitting post.bar,inside of post,Bar etc etc,any fool can get a shot on target your not trying to get a shot on target but score a goal if that means missing the target a few times in trying so be it

I don't think xG is a joke stat, but it's just a bit of data at the end of the day. You can't hang your coat on it, particularly when it's in a knock-out tie where one side has the lead from the get go.
I still think PSG are a bit weak defensively, and keep expecting Donnarumma to revert to his natural level. He's not that good really, but his form in the CL in the last few months has been extraordinary. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he managed to cost them the cup still in a few weeks. |

To be fair, you have to give them credit.
We have that wall that lists the number of times we've won each cup. But they've got a bigger one listing all the decisions that went against them this season and how many games some players missed. Just can't compete with that. |

Arsenal had an excellent CL campaign and played superb football in some matches. Arteta a fine young manager knows how to motivate players and still improving. Proud to support them even thou 2nd place for 3rd year on trot would disappointing. Although does it make any difference finishing 2rd/3rd/4th anymore?

I make no secret of disliking Arteta as manager but I have never been one for calling for sacking the manager. Who you gonna get first of all? I do think Arsenal have a good squad that needs additions to challenge. I like Calafiori. I think he is a winner and thought he would raise Arsenal to the next level just like Zinchenko and Jesus did in attitude. Lets see next season and if they get the 3 touted. |

Despite Arteta's arrogance, he is gradually becoming a first class manager. Even though he has only won one major trophy with Arsenal so far, in the past three seasons countless performances have been superb. Five years ago the club was stagnating, with the horrible Ozil being paid a fortune, still on the books. Off-loading Aubameyang who had been the part for a couple of years, was a difficult but ultimately correct decision and bringing in Jezus was the catalyst. The bottom line is Arsenal have massively improved under Arteta... Agree with most of that.
But does that table - showing Arsenal net spend is 50% higher than City's and about 75% higher than Liverpool's really putting things into perspective? It tells me that he's better than the consistent bin fires at Chelsea, Utd and Tottenham but a distance behind the best clubs and managers. |

The season started so well for Arsenal. They looked better than both Citeh and Liverpool but conceded late equalisers against both and I think both were from corners. That was frustrating but now looks like criminal neglect as it has continued to recent matches against PSG and Palace.
I don't like the Arsenal style of play with low ball speed, little zip and forward passes as rare as rocking horse sheite. imho that is not natural it is coached under instruction. I think he is close to a very good side and needs to bring in the players everybody knows he needs. I am not sure his team are winners yet. They are good though just not good enough. |
